A fun, durable, river canoe

I've had my Esquif Prospecteur for 3 years now and love it. I paddle it regularly in class 2 rapids, but it could certainly hand class 3 with the right team. It is heavy- but that is the nature of T-formex boats. Durability comes at the price of weight. A friend took this boat out in some Class 3 and put a pretty good dent in the stern, but I was able to warm the plastic up and push most of the dent out- almost good as new. While the rocker on this boat supports really solid river maneuverability, this boat is also really pleasant to paddle on lakes. If you can only have one canoe, this would be the best bet.

One canoe to rule them all.

This canoe has fit my family’s needs perfectly. It can hold my partner, child, dog, and myself with ease. It tracks well. It’s super durable and well constructed. It’s manageable to transport; my wife and I can lift it onto the car rack without too much trouble. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Way heavier than advertised (76 pounds)

I don't blame REI for this - Esquif's website claims this canoe is 65 pounds. I purchased this canoe because a durable canoe at 65 pounds sounded great. I did notice another poor review on another website saying the canoe is heavier than advertised - but I assumed it was just a fluke. Nope, this canoe is just over 76 pounds. My SO couldn't help me get it onto the car to take home. REI is awesome and is offering a full refund.
