Co-op Member Reward notices are sent out each March. For example, the Co-op Member Reward you earn on purchases made in 2022 will be issued in March 2023 and expires on January 3, 2025. Active members who earned a Co-op Member Reward and/or REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards on eligible purchases during the previous year will receive a notice in March via mail or email.

Only active REI Co-op members receive a Co-op Member Reward notice. To be an active member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases (purchases minus credits and returns) of at least $10 per year, unless you joined during that calendar year.

All eligible REI merchandise purchases posted between 1/1–12/31 earn a Co-op Member Reward, reduced by any items returned for refund or credit. If your reward has already been calculated, then the reward is deducted from any returns.

REI Co-op Members receive their Total REI Rewards notice via mail or email each March.

Good news: Keep in mind that many of these REI items still let you earn 5% back* in REI Co-op® Mastercard® Rewards rewards when you buy them with your REI Co-op Mastercard. That includes gear that’s on sale, REI adventure travel trips, RE/Supply used gear, REI gift cards, and even donations to the REI Cooperative Action Fund.

You may request a retroactive Co-op Member Reward credit for eligible purchases online or by calling Senior Service at 1-800-426-4840; have your receipt handy as you’ll need it to provide information about your purchase. A Co-op Member Reward* may be credited to you for purchases you made within the current calendar year. However, your Rewards cannot be credited for purchases that occurred before you became an REI Co-op member.

Your Total REI Rewards are comprised of your annual Co-op Member Reward* and your earned REI Co-op® Mastercard® Rewards (if you’re an REI Co-op Mastercard holder).

You can shop at REI Co-op with your Total REI Rewards as soon as you receive notice of them. 

Notices go out in March to active members who earned the Co-op Member Reward on eligible purchases during the previous year. They’re valid through their respective listed expiration dates. 

REI Co-op® Mastercard® Rewards can be redeemed as they’re earned and are available for redemption when posted to your account (generally 1-2 business days after the purchase is posted), and do not expire..

Co-op Member Reward:

You will no longer be able to receive cash or a check for the 2022 Co-op Member Reward and beyond. Co-op Member Reward earned in 2022 and beyond can be redeemed at an REI store, REI.com, REI Outlet, for an REI Adventure trip, or via the REI app.

Your Total REI Rewards expired as follows:

Every REI store has a full-service bike shop, and many of our locations also have snow shops for skis and snowboards. Provide your membership information when you drop off your gear for service to obtain your 20% discount (parts not included). Learn more about shop service availability near you.

The service is not available in all locations. Check the REI store locator for participating stores. Gear must be in rust-free and clean condition to qualify.

Re/Supply is where members can shop and trade in used gear at REI all year. It’s a more sustainable and affordable way for members to purchase gear and apparel than buying new. Re/Supply includes gently used items that customers have either returned or traded-in and is ready for more life outside.

Members can participate in the following ways:

• Shopping the dedicated used gear section in most REI stores 
• Shopping used gear online through the REI website
• Shopping our Re/Supply stores in Manhattan Beach, CA and Conshohocken, PA
• Trading in used gear in exchange for an REI gift card

Re/Supply is an opportunity for REI members to have a positive impact on the outdoors by finding (or giving) new homes to gently used items. Buying a used item, instead of new, typically avoids CO2 emissions of 50% or more. This is based on REI Co-op’s estimate of preparing used gear for sale versus making new gear. Buying or trading-in gently used gear keeps your items out of landfills and gives you the opportunity to share gear with other members!

Re/Supply is 60 years of in-store Garage Sales reimagined. Access to used gear hasn't gone away, it's gotten better! Members can now shop and trade in used gear all year.

The Fund^† was established to harness the collective power of our members and employees to build a more just and inclusive outdoor culture. REI is donating $5 for every membership purchased because we believe that time outside is a human right, and connection to nature is fundamental to the social, cultural, and physical health and well-being of all people.

^†REI’s donations are made to a "Designated Fund" that's been established at the Seattle Foundation (Tax ID#91-6013536) for the benefit of the REI Cooperative Action Fund. Contributions to that Designated Fund are treated for tax purposes as gifts to a Section 501(c)(3) public charity.

With each new membership purchased, the co-op will donate $5 to support REI Cooperative Action Fund. REI’s donation is separate from the membership fee and made on behalf of the co-op, not each individual new member.

New members will be invited to share which of the Fund's three grantmaking initiatives they prefer—connecting people outside, creating space outside or centering health outside. The Fund staff will consider member feedback in deciding how the REI donation is invested in nonprofits, but the Fund is not restricted in how it makes its investments. 

Yes. As a co‑op, we put purpose before profits and act in the long-term interests of our members and community. As the needs of our members, community and business change, we may also change the benefits of lifetime membership. 

No, once a membership has been purchased it is yours for life. Memberships are non-refundable and not returnable.

Your member number is issued only in your name. Only you can redeem your Co-op Member Reward and REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards, and only you can vote for the REI board of directors. Your membership cannot be transferred to someone else. It’s yours for life.
