Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best yoga mat I've ever used I bought this about 4 months ago in the store because I couldn't feel my bones pressing through the mat when I squeezed my fingers through it. I do yoga every day on a concrete floor, including headstands and forearm balances, so I need a mat that is not too "squishy" (it's hard to balance when the ground moves around underneath you) but that will keep my bones from grinding on the concrete. I've been through a LOT of options, many of them quite expensive, some layered variations of mats, and this is hands down the best mat I've ever used. It's the only one anyone should ever use on a concrete floor. It has a great grip surface; you wash it once when you get it home and it's ready to go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great grip but only when dry Even at room temperature, I'm normally dripping sweat after about 15 minutes in a Yoga session. After having tried various mats, I never found one that I would not slip on if my hands and feet were wet. So, I went for the most comfortable mat. Using a towel (either thin cotton gym towel or Manduka microfiber towel), I eliminated the slipping when wet problem. The width of this mat is just right for knees out child's pose (for me at 5' 7"). The mat is heavier than most mats - I would not want to lug it around all day or travel on a plane with it, but if you're driving to the studio/gym, it's manageable. In return, it's comfortable without requiring any folding or additional layers to keep knees comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My knees say thanks! I'ev never paid this much for a mat before, and I thought the price was a bit much. But this seems to be worth every penny. I regularly do positions where I'm down on all fours and then I lift the opposite arms and legs. On my old, cheap mat I'd have to first stop and put a folded towel under my knee because the kneecap just ground into the floor in the most unpleasant way. That wasted time because I had to move it from one knee to the other. And it still was unpleasant. Not anymore. This mat is excellent. I can kneel on it with no problems. I've also heard others say it lasts forever, so it will save me money in the long run, since I won't have to regularly replace cheaper mats. My one tiny criticism is that it's pretty big and bulky, so don't expect to just toss it in a mat sling and easily take it somewhere. On the other hand, Manduka makes a lighter version of this mat, and I just don't think it would feel as good on the knees, so I like this one just as it is. I highly recommend this mat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only Mat you need This is the mat as far as I am concerned. I have used mine at least 5 times a week for the past year and it shows no wear at all. It is built to last for this lifetime and is backed up with a warranty to match. I am 6' 2" and have the long version and love the extra length.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The search continues. . . . After glowing reviews here and elsewhere, I tried it. Sorry to report, it was incredibly slippery in a non-hot yoga class. It has a weird waxy feel on the top. Couldn't hold downward dog so I had to use a towel. I like the weight, color, thickness and size but it fails at the essential component of stickiness during poses. I'm not going to rub with sea salt, leave in the sun, or otherwise try to break it in for 6+ months. Nope, for the price, I expected it to be ready to go now and at least better than the free gym mats that I usually use. I would not buy again and would not recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stays put during vigorous practice I just purchased one of these from my local REI this past weekend, and have since used it during a couple of sweaty, vigorous sessions (standard vinyasa and Ashtanga). This mat DOES NOT BUDGE - which was a bit of a problem for me with my previous mat when going through any kind of transition that required rotating my feet while on the mat, or even in adho mukha svanasana (the mat would stretch apart, lengthwise) - but not a problem any more! It slips a bit if it gets wet, but that's not surprising, and it's not excessive at all - very manageable (either keep a towel handy to wipe yourself down every so often, put one on the mat, or just work on building up the strength to overcome the slipperiness - which again, is minimal). There is a slight plastic smell noticeable only when my nose is close to the mat, but I'm sure that will dissipate with time (and it's not strong /overwhelming, to begin with). All in all, I am extremely satisfied, and can already tell that this mat is going to seriously upgrade my entire practice, allowing me to focus on my breath/movement/state-of-mind instead of what my mat is doing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A work horse I am a yoga teacher. Bought this mat for when I teach at studios that are not hot. Has a lifetime warranty which is good because as I was using it the other night I noticed where a piece of the top is pealing back. Only had it for a few weeks and always carry in a yoga bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slippery when sweat Hey im an avid yoga guy who wanted a high quality mat. i live far from stores so i had to use the internet to guide me. This mat appears to be awesome, and it is, except it is extremely slippery when wet. i sweat like a spring in a rain storm, and after minute five of my yoga the mat becomes a liability and even dangerous to use. i have to have a towel on top of it now. some reviews said that the slipperiness would wear off after a while, but its been a year and a half and it is still slippery. im beginning to think that the slipperiness will never where off. it does have its benefits though. it is long, and that is a plus. im 6'1" and it is nice to have a long mat. it is super thick, and this is one reason why i bought it. im bony and it definitely does a good job cushioning me. the cushion comes at a price, as this mat is really heavy. overall im happy with the mat, i learned to live with the slipperiness. you might as well buy the yoga towel to cover it right now though, there goes another[$]makes me long for the old days of just borrowing a mat from the yoga studio.

Balance is bringing your focus back to center

From the beginning, Manduka faced a paradox. The company built by yoga teachers asked how they could dovetail their desire to create products for a better practice with their intention to protect the planet from environmental waste. The answer was in finding the balance. Manduka products are crafted with renewable materials like recycled polyester, plant-based material and organic cotton whenever possible. Offering superior grip, sweat control and a full range of motion Manduka is creating products for a better practice with an ethos of environmentally responsible design.
