Pilled after one use
Unfortunately, this material pulled after one use of this shirt. It’s an expensive shirt that now looks old after only one use. It is nice and light and the upf worked great but I will not be purchasing again.
Great for long bike rides
I bought this for a 7-day bike trip on the Erie Canalway and it was perfect. The bamboo fabric is very soft, kept me cool, and dried quickly. I wore it for many days without a wash and it stayed fresh, unlike polyester sun hoodies. The hood easily fits under a helmet/chinstrap and does not cause you to overheat. The thumb holes are soft and don't cut off circulation; sleeve length is good, overall fit is good. I wear it on my bike commutes to/from work as well so I don't have to slather myself up with sunscreen twice a day. I'd love to have more color options, like earth tones in addition to the pastels. I highly recommend this sun hoodie!
Disappointed
After one wear there is already pilling of the fabric. It is light and it was great for sun protection but it looks old and worn after one use.
Best Sun Shirt Yet!
I bought this shirt for my recent 4 day backpacking trip to Havasupai and it never smelled! I’ve previously owned Tyr and Mountain Hardware (Crater Hoodie) shirts and while I love the fit and hip pocket of the later, both would reek of BO one hour into a hike. This Free Fly shirt never smelled! It also didn’t pill around my pack hip straps, etc. It is very light weight and great at moisture wicking. A word of caution about that on multi-day backpacking trips: if it rains and your pants get wet, the shirt will absorb all the water off of your pants and be soaked. But if you are going somewhere hot and dry, definitely take this shirt!
Less durable than expected
My understanding is that bamboo excels in temperature regulation and odor resistance, but lacks durability. I found this to be true on the day I tested this sun hoodie on a 6-mile day hike. But I wasn't expecting the material to start wearing down on the first day of use, especially at this price point. I was planning to take this on a 300-mile section hike on the PCT, but I am having second thoughts and considering returning. I think if Freefly wants to charge this much for their sun hoodie, more R&D will be required to bring the durability up to par. I really hope they can figure it out, as this sun hoodie is very comfortable, but I worry there will be no shirt left at the end of my trip. I've reached out to Freefly to see if this is normal for the shirt. Might just get a cheap one from amz instead and replace it as needed. If this shirt lasts 300 miles, I will come back and update my review.
Strange stains
This is my very first sun shirt I bought. I love the natural fiber so I was excited to try this shirt. It is soft and comfortable and I was planning to get more. But after a few day hikes, I noticed a strange stains. It seems like backpack strap made marks. WHY? I can’t get sweaty with this shirt? I have never had a shirt like this. I am attaching pictures after I washed it.
Love it!
This is my new favorite. Love the feel, color and fit! I think I need one in every color!
Holes In Less Than An Hour
I REALLY wanted to like this sun hoodie. I love that the selection of colors they have here and it is pretty lightweight. However, I wore this outside and after less than an hour I looked down and saw several holes. I don't even know how they haven't but it is obviously not very durable. I have another sun hoodie that I have used for a year of hiking and climbing and still looks brand new.
My sweat stained it
I loved the color and texture of this sun hoody but it weirdly stained in the arm pits and lower back after my first hike in it. I’ve never had that happen to any of my clothing before. I don’t know if it reacts to certain deodorants or sweat but it shouldn’t do that
Nice weight for running, hood could be bigger
I got this as a replacement for my Athleta sun hoodie, which finally shredded after a decade of regular wear while running. I wanted another lightweight white hoodie with hand coverage. I wore it today for the first time, and it's LOVELY. Nice, silky-soft material that's lightweight and breathable. It's nice not to have a zipper and zipped pockets as in my former running hoodie, though I would like a larger hood that provides a little more face coverage. I'm hopeful it will last as long as my former running hoodie. I will also wear this for fly-fishing and other outdoor activities.
