Perfect heel lock-down! The laces have plenty of extra length in a size 13 to tie a runners loop!!!! These remind me of an old pair of DVS skate shoes in looks but give me the "old man" support I need. I put good insoles in these and still have tons of room to wiggle my toes but lace them snug with a loop to lock my heel and I can definitely hike in these. The outer sole is not like the super quish-slushy hoka stuff so don't expect that. Personally I find a stiffer sole is much better for the long miles anyway. Bulid quality is solid. I hope they don't stop making these or try to "improve them" anytime soon
Why’d they change the original? 😟
The Bozeman I is an awesome shoe. Absolutely without a doubt the most comfortable and supportive footbed I’ve ever had. So good I bought 4 pairs over the years. The footbed was so similar to orthotics I had for a collapsed arch, the shoes actually helped my recovery. The Bozeman II is a totally different story. The shoe is more than a centimeter more narrow than the originals. It’s like walking on ice skates. The footbed feels like any other shoe with just so-so support. It felt long also. It’s a beautiful design but much too different than the original, which I guess explains why they were discounted so much.
Supportive Comfortable Casual
I’m borderline medium-wide, the medium was too tight, the wide is just a smidgeon wider and fits perfectly. I require a relatively stiff shoe, with good gait guidance, supportive (not flexible) forefoot, and good heel counter. These fit like a glove on first wearing. I see this more as a casual / lifestyle shoe, with maybe ability to “hike” (read walk) on gravel, hardscrabble, and so on. Andre after a nice hike, go shopping and out to dinner. So in that sense it’s Swiss Army knife of a shoe… I bought these for travel, long day trips, etc. If I want to do anything in the realm of light-moderate hike, then the Keens go on…
Great shoes, runs slightly narrow.
Looks great, runs slightly narrow. I ended up buying the wide (first time I've owned a wide shoe). I have tailor's bunions and narrow heels, these shoes fit me the best of anything I currently own. Good heel lock while giving my forefoot room to breathe.
Comfortable and good looking shoe
As with all Oboz shoes, the Bozeman II is as comfortable a light hiking shoe as you can get. Or is it a sneaker? It has the support and grip of a hiking shoe but feels as light as a sneaker. I read other reviews citing the narrowness of the shoe and ordered this in my usual size but in a wide version. Fits perfectly. I did not order the waterproof version (not sure if it’s even an option) because I don’t want the warmth of a waterproof shoe during the summer months. I sprayed it with NikWax water repellent and that should be enough. The classic brown color looks great with yellow laces.
Top quality & comfort
I purchased these shoes for spring in the mountains, and for something I could comfortably wear to work. Although they're are not waterproof, I purchased them knowing this and have an understanding that I should not expect them to be great shoes on soggy days. The Bozeman IIs are quite simply the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Zero break in time was needed. I'm a big guy, 6'4" and 230 and I find the cushioning great! My guess is I'll wear these shoes every day, all summer long. I couldn't be happier.
Oh Boy! O Boz!
My eyes caught this smart-looking low-cut hiker on display at the Grand Rapids store. The footwear clerk told me the store was out of the charcoal-colored edition, but the brown was available. I tried them on and they seemed okay, so checked out at the cash register. After a few days at home, I tried them on again, only to find they were too tight over my toes. Returned them the next week and tried on a pair of the charcoal shoes. Looser fit but wanted more. Asked to try a pair of 10.5's. Better. Looser in the toe-box. Exchanged the brown 10's for the 10.5 charcoal. Like the natural gum rubber soles. Nice touch. More organic. Shoelaces too long. Save money by using the next size shorter.
Stylish "street hiker"
Let's be real, this isn't a hiking shoe, but for walking thru the park, around town, maybe smooth gravel/dirt level trails it's fine. Already have a pair of bullet proof Keens as my go to hiker. These are the "i may be in 3 different places and need to look good be performant." I have hallix rigidus and some met head issues so need a supportive forefoot and reasonably stiff midsole. this does the trick. as long as you don't have dorseflexion issues this shoe really works. to me it's the perfect vacation shoe. Note the shoe runs lengthwise fine, but it's a bit narrow so you might need wide.
Love these shoes
Sometimes I'm wary of products that look really good, and these look great. They have a stylish active shoe/town design, but I was concerned that they would not perform. I just came back from a 2 week trip in Europe with a lot of walking and light trail hiking and the shoes held up great. They were true to size and felt fitted but not tight (I wear medium width). The treads gripped on the trail and have some toe box protection. At night I would throw on some pants and felt comfortable eating at casual nice restaurants. I'm glad I bought these and they are now in my top 3 shoes that I own.
Looks good, but not comfortable for me
I like the look but I find that they aren’t comfortable for me. Theres something about the collar that rides too high and hurts my ankle when walking. I tried to fix it with inserts but it didn’t help enough.
