Started ripping and falling apart after 3 uses
This is the most money I've ever spent on a yoga mat and it has been a huge disappointment. The grip is helpful, but it collects so much dust and hair every time I roll it out (and I clean my floors regularly!). More importantly, it started to rip and come apart after only 3 or 4 uses. I spent $20 on a yoga mat at Target that lasted me 6 years before it started to wear. Very disappointed. Jade is truly not worth the hype!
Super grippy mat
I have been using this mat for my practice for about 2 months now. This mat is very grippy when your hands are not sweaty. For someone who has super sweaty hands, this mat will give you sliding problems. Since first buying this mat, I have paired it with the Manduka Yogitoes towel. The two together are a great combination and the grippiness of the mat keeps the towel in place really well. As advertised, this is a travel mat so it is lightweight and doesn't take up a lot of room when rolled up. Takeaway message: if you don't sweat in your hands or feet, this would be a great mat for you. If you do sweat in your hands or feet, it's still a great mat as long as you pair it with a towel.
great mat.
I'm an avid yoga class participant (Ashtanga, Hatha), not an avid athlete. Also some self-practice Mysore style. The Jade Harmony mat is heavy-ish, but great for trips to yoga studio and back (heavy for air travel, for sure). Durable, and the rubber smell goes away (do not store in heat). Not great for beginners' jump backs, jump forwards unless they can be performed with no risk of stubbing toes on the mat (I overcome that issue by laying down a yoga mat towel (24x68" roughly) after standing poses during a Vinyasa practice). I LOVE this mat, am ordering a second (one for UK, one for US, so that air travel/mat weight is not an issue). I have it in red, but have seen the olive in real time-- it's a calming, neutral color.
Awesome mat for heavy sweaters
I'm compelled to write a review for how awesome this mat is after picking up--and being disappointed with--a Manduka mat as a backup. I'm a big dude and I sweat when I workout. The Jade mat holds my grip no matter how sweaty I get and is plenty cushy. The Manduka I bought (EkoLite) is about the same thickness but is far less grippy and comfy. I should have just picked up another one of these. Great mat.
Thirty pushups accomplice
After reading I could achieve better grip with a natural rubber mat I splurge and purchase the Jade Travel Yoga Mat in the spring of 2018. My goal of being able to do thirty pushups has been accomplice thanks in part to this mat. Reading other reviews that the mat’s natural rubber wear out over time will not steer me away from buying a new Jade mat in the future. Currently I work at a machine maintenance company. There I learned rubber parts can only do so much before it wears down. It comes with the territory. My Jade mat is still holding up to 3 time a week use since spring 2018.
Best non-slip surface out there
The description of this product says "non-slip" surface and that's exactly what it is. I sweat like a banshee when I workout and other yoga mats just seem to let me slid around when I sweat towards the end of a yoga session. Not this mat!! This saves you the trouble of having to buy a yoga mat and then a non-slip towel to go on top. The only complaint is that it's just a bit too thin for me. I think I'm going to take it back and get a thicker version. Jade makes the best material though!!
Friction can be your friend and enemy
I typically use a Manduka black Pro mat: awesome dense surface that's heavy and big. I bought this Jade Travel Yoga mat as an alternative to pack into my backpack when I cycle commute on days I have a yoga session planned. From a yoga standpoint, it's actually a very usable mat: it has enough cushion to keep the floor from being a pain, and the grip is better than even my Manduka Pro due to the material being natural rubber. It doesn't fold perfectly, but good enough. Rolling is ok. However the high friction/grip is why I will need to return the mat. The surface attracts EVERY hair and dust particle. I'm not a clean freak, but at a certain point the debris on the mat hinders practice. If you have dogs or cats, you will need to use a tape-lint roller for about fifteen minutes before each practice. Finally, when you fold it (or roll it) and try to place it in a backpack or yoga bag the rubber grips to the sides of just about any container meaning that stowing the mat becomes a struggle. (I did find that the mat slipped into one of my Patagonia lightweight backpacks without clinging as much to the sides, but this pack is "embedded" with a silicon-like treatment). All this means extra time before / after practice that I can't spare. Therefore the mat will be returned on the next trip to REI.
Perfect for everyday and on the road
I got this mat a month ago in anticipation of traveling again. I’ve been testing it out at home and it is so much more comfortable and cushiony than my regular mat (hugger mugger tapas) even though it is significantly thinner. I’m packing now for a 10 day trip and it fits my carryon (admittedly, it fitting is also because of my super fancy suitcase, a Rimowa: even though it looks like it’s bulging out, I can actually close my suitcase; it’s because of the compression flaps that push down each side of the clamshell suitcase). I think that even if I wasn’t traveling with a Rimowa but my old Hartman, it would fit nicely as well. It’s totally my everyday mat. I don’t do yoga everyday but hiit classes at home 3-5 times a week. I’m wearing sneakers on it; doing planks and what not on it and I feel supported by it and no crumbling unlike my older, synthetic mat!
Awesome!
Wow wonderful mat! So as another reviewer mentioned this mat does attract everything. I have found a great solution to this though which is to use a lint roller on it after each use. Also there is a very strong rubber odor smell that can be pester some but starts to dissipate after about 3-6 months of use. So other than that this is hands down the best mat I've used. It is cushy, portable, and has incredible traction. Definitely worth the little issues
So happy with this mat
I love the texture and smell of the pure rubber. The grip is awesome and I feel so stable on this mat. I have pets, and when I used this mat for the first time all the pet hair and dust on the carpet stuck to the rubber and I had to use a sticky roller to get it all off. I was frustrated and thought about returning it, but now I just vacuum before I roll out the mat and there's no problem. I think this travel version of the Jade mats is a good deal because even though it's advertised as a thin mat, it's really the same thickness as a regular yoga mat. It was hard to pay more for it at the time, but I'm glad I bought a mat that was made in the U.S. and is environmentally friendly. That's a good feeling to have every time I use it. This is a high-quality mat and I think it will last a long time.
