I'm a 36 waist in Dockers, and the Zion Standard pants in 36 wouldn't even close.
These are not the original Zion, but the newer Zion. The fabric is not the same, and they lack the snaps to roll up the legs. People do not like the newer fabric as much.
Excellent fit off the rack for someone with larger thighs and wanting a more athletic fit. Really well tapered while still feeling like hiking pants. Very soft and hold up well with great features. Tried on several pants from other brands at REI and went with these easily.
These are very comfortable. Not wind resistant but do cut down on wind. Fell in a stream a few days ago and one pant leg was soaked through. Mostly dry within 45 minutes (temp about 35) - it was on my way back to the car so not an issue. There is a zippered pocket lower down on left leg (stow my car key there), front and rear pockets. My iPhone 17 Pro Max fits in the front without falling out. Have never used the other pockets. The 'belt' is integrated and works well, easily adjusted on the go.
Best hiking pants I've owned. I wore these on a 14-mile hike the other day, on a humid 93-degree day. Are there lighter-weight and more breathable pants out there? Probably. Was that an issue? Not even a little bit. The fit with the stretch fabric, was really comfortable and felt roomy, and somehow, despite forgetting my Body Glide, there was no chafing at all. Anywhere. I also had to scramble up a couple rocky areas at some points, and the pants had plenty of stretch for those climbs, with ample room in the crotch. Pockets were good and roomy, but well-contained--I didn't feel the stuff in my pockets constantly bouncing against me. There's nothing to hold the legs up if you roll them, but they rolled easily enough and just...stayed there. I'll be picking up another pair of these in a different color next time I'm at REI.
As many others have noted, these pants are not the same as their predecessors. These are made with a different material and the sizing is smaller than they used to be. Taking those things into consideration, the style and options are not much different. They have the same pockets and airflows they used to have. People have commented that the air holes may let in ticks, but a day or so before I go out I spray my clothes down with Permethrin so they’ll repel/ kill and ticks and bugs it’ll come in contact with. I’ve been doing this for years with my old pair of PrAna’s and they’ve held up greatly and I’ve never had a tick bite, despite walking through some high weeded areas. Overall these pants are still good, but if you don’t like the feel of the material and can’t get past the sizing you may want to go check out another pant. That’s the only reason I lowered the rating.
I bought these for climbing. All my friends suggest Prana and I thought I would give them a try. In the fitting room, I tried them on and noticed they run a little large at my standard size, 32/30. Also the pocket arrangement isn't exactly to my liking. I admire the quality of the product despite these challenges. I bought them and used them on full day of geocaching. They were fine other than me losing a pen. After that for the rest of the day I left the rest of my gear in the car. I haven't worn the pair to the climbing gym and haven't worn them again. It's only been two weeks since I bought them along with an REI membership. The membership gave me a $30 card so I went back and bought Kuhl pants that fit much better. I plan on returning these Prana pants. I really wanted to like them but they run large.
These are genuinely my favorite pants ever. They are extremely lightweight, stretchy, and breathable. I love that they barely shrink in the wash, if at all, and they are water-repellent, making them perfect for damp days. These pants have become my go-to choice for both indoors and outdoors.
These pants are good on the basics, and have some nice design touches. To start with they are comfortable, are true to size, the fabric breathes nicely, dries after a rain fairly quickly, and while lighter in weight (and stretchy) it seems reasonably durable over the long haul. I especially like the cinch strap on the waist so that you can fine tune the fit to your exact waist size, and also how the legs are cut a little on the long side so they cover the uppers of your boots/shoes – especially useful in tick country. The front pockets are deep enough and made of mesh for quicker drying, and the front cargo pocket zips closed (I prefer when a cargo pocket zips or velcros completely shut, rather than snaps). They also don’t scream “hiking pants” so are nice when traveling (not necessarily on the trail). The only real downside is the back pockets – they’re a little shallow and don’t have a closure, although one has a small flap over the top. With similarly shallow back pockets I’ve found that things of any weight have had a tendency to sometimes work their way out, especially if you’re scrambling up or down steep hills or over scree. Overall though, pretty nice pants.
