Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Painful Achilles
I waited until Altra distributed the Lone Peak 9+ in the States. I’ve been an Altra fan since Lone Peak 3’s. But I’m very disappointed in the latest Lone Peaks as after just 2 weeks my Achilles at the back and top of heel is painful sore. I’m switching to Topo as it also has a wide toe box, zero to low heel-to-toe drop and Vibram outsoles. Feet are different; just my experience.

Excellent shoe

I’ve been wearing loan peaks since series 3 or 4, the Vibram sole was a great add. I walk on gravel & trails 30 miles a week. The pair in the picks have well over 500 miles on them.

Incredible fit and perofmance

Ive recently climbed over 500ft of rocky near verticle elevation in these and I was truly Satisfied with the performance I also use these shoes to cross a river and my feet stayed comfortable walking the trail even though they were soaked for a little while they also dried out really quick. I still have a hard time believing that I could return these shoes in any condition within a year thanks to REI membership.

Great hiking and backpacking shoes

These are my first test of Altra's shoes and I have to admit that I'm extremely happy. Me and my wife got a pair of these during the annual sale after having them on the radar for a while and I have to say that we have already agreed to get the same ones whenever these give up. The wider fit and roomy toe box is fantastic, we have never been comfier and freer from blisters and the comfort is the same as any other shoe of this category. Mind you! These are zero drop shoes so you will have o adapt to this change if you come from bigger shoes with high drops or big foamy soles. This is nothing worrying, the first time you exercise with this your calves and lower leg muscles will suffer a bit of strain but I find that it only takes a couple of training sessions to be fully adapted and I swear that you will not regret.

Altra finally knocked it out of the park

I had an older version of this shoe, the Lone Peak… 5, think? They were garbage and I returned them within a couple hikes. So I was a little wary of trying this one. I really prefer the wide toe box and zero drop sole, so I took a chance again. I’m glad I did. Altra has finally found their groove. This shoe is made so much better and is so comfortable. It’s a rugged trail shoe that is holding up well so far, but I’ve only got about 15 miles on them so far. I’ll update if I need to, but based on past experience I suspect this shoe is shaping up to be one of the best trail shoes I’ve ever owned.

Oldie but goodie

The Altra 9+ lone peaks are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn! That applies to all shoes ever including the lone peak 9s. I don’t know why but my wife agreed as well. Yes the vibrams make them great for the most technical trail but they are also as comfy as slippers for hanging around.

The best Line Peaks yet?

I’ve been wearing Lone Peaks for years—can’t even recall what version they were in when I got my first pair. While they’ve always been comfortable, durability has been an issue. I haven’t had the 9+ long enough to make a determination on long-term durability but with about 20 miles on them thus far they do feel more robust. The vibram soles seem to be more dense and protective when planting my feet on the edges of uneven surfaces/rocks and that’s not a bad thing. I may be mistaken on this, but they do seem to hold more foot odor than previous Lone Peaks (or maybe I’m just slacking on my foot hygiene). I am optimistic about these shoes lasting a good while longer than previous versions.

Love how grippy these are!

Always missed not having the vibram grip on my lone peaks. These have been great for hiking on granite slabs as well as sandstones. I have hiked mostly in the whites with these and they have been doing great

Best Lone Peak yet!

The Lone Peak shoe has been my go to shoe for hiking and backpacking for over 10 years. I have purchased every iteration they have had during that time. Some years were better than others. I must say that the 9+ has got me smiling every time I lace them up. There is a return to a wider toe box like years ago. I can lace the mid foot nicely for stability and have plenty of room for my high instep. There is no rub at the achilles. I prefer size 11 even though some other shoes I wear are 10 1/2 . The Vibram sole and padding are the best combo yet. Hiking with a 30# pack over rocky trail is tolerated well. I plan to stock up on the 9+ as Altra has a way of needing to change things every year or two.

Great quality

I am writing a review only because I should have burned a hole in these shoes when an ember landed on my foot for long enough to be worried that I burned through my sock but after looking at the shoe there was no damage! I can’t speak for the long term durability since I’ve only taken them on one camp trip but this experience made me confident that I made the right purchase choice! Very comfortable as well!! Just wish this series came in more colors
