Altra  Lone Peak 9+ Trail-Running Shoes - Men's

I’ve been wearing loan peaks since series 3 or 4, the Vibram sole was a great add. I walk on gravel & trails 30 miles a week. The pair in the picks have well over 500 miles on them.

I love the fit of the lone peaks - this is my second pair. I went through the first one too fast as the sole got chewed up by Canadian Rockies rocks, so I went with the 9+ this time for the better durability of the Vibram soles. It looks like the Vibram sole is a winner, but after only one 4-day hike and three trail runs, the tip of the sole is starting to peel off. Looks like glue failure. I was hoping this might be an issue impacting only a small batch of the production and the warranty will cover it, but it has been radio silence from Altra for weeks, so I assume this is not an isolated issue they are willing to address. As much as I love the fit, I may have to start looking elsewhere for more durable shoes. . .

Altra hit a home run with this model. An upgrade in every way.

These are my first test of Altra's shoes and I have to admit that I'm extremely happy. Me and my wife got a pair of these during the annual sale after having them on the radar for a while and I have to say that we have already agreed to get the same ones whenever these give up. The wider fit and roomy toe box is fantastic, we have never been comfier and freer from blisters and the comfort is the same as any other shoe of this category. Mind you! These are zero drop shoes so you will have o adapt to this change if you come from bigger shoes with high drops or big foamy soles. This is nothing worrying, the first time you exercise with this your calves and lower leg muscles will suffer a bit of strain but I find that it only takes a couple of training sessions to be fully adapted and I swear that you will not regret.

The sole started falling off the second week. I put them in the sun once to dry and the insole shriveled and wrinkled in the sun. Now I just feel the wrinkles every time I put the shoes on with no sign of it flattening itself. I live in Colorado not the surface of the sun. I discovered Lone Peaks hiking the CDT but the none vibrate sole lasted only a few hundred miles before going completely smooth. I had high hopes for the vibram sole but that means nothing if the entire sole is peeling off the shoe after only two weeks and 70 miles. I have run 100+ mile weeks, I have hiked the CDT, CT and I am constantly on the trails doing something. It would be nice if $200 dollar trail shoes that could handle sunlight and running. It's almost like they should be built specifically for these things. Yet, what should be the shoes strengths are the weaknesses. The requests seems reasonable but yet I can't find it anywhere. I could probably keep gluing the soles and buy new inserts but I shouldn't have to. I am getting tired of shoe companies charging a premium and selling us a not premium product. The price of shoes is getting ridiculous. It would just be nice if I got what I paid for at least. Running was my favorite sport partly because it was cheap and easy. You needed nothing to do it besides decent shoes. It was a poor and sport. Shoes are $200 today and they don't last more than a few hundred miles. That's a rich person sport. I used to put 1000 miles on shoes before tossing them. and sadly, it's across the board of all the brands, not just Altra. Tired of increasing prices and decreasing quality. It's across the board not just Altra.

This is my 2nd st of Altra zero-drop shoes. They are incredibly comfortable for the flat footed fitness fellow. Snug, works well on pavement and grass, and dries quickly post workout. The only down side is that the treads wear very fast. The 1st set I purchased in January and have worn through. I exercise daily outside for an hour in the morning and ruck in the evenings on a local exercise trail 2-6 miles depending on the day. So it is a lot of use, but $175 every 4-5 months is a lot for "normal" wear and tear. Having said that, after having several brands and being very loyal to Merrels's Glove line of shoes, I'd never go back. A far superior shoe.

I had an older version of this shoe, the Lone Peak… 5, think? They were garbage and I returned them within a couple hikes. So I was a little wary of trying this one. I really prefer the wide toe box and zero drop sole, so I took a chance again. I’m glad I did. Altra has finally found their groove. This shoe is made so much better and is so comfortable. It’s a rugged trail shoe that is holding up well so far, but I’ve only got about 15 miles on them so far. I’ll update if I need to, but based on past experience I suspect this shoe is shaping up to be one of the best trail shoes I’ve ever owned.

The Lone Peak shoe has been my go to shoe for hiking and backpacking for over 10 years. I have purchased every iteration they have had during that time. Some years were better than others. I must say that the 9+ has got me smiling every time I lace them up. There is a return to a wider toe box like years ago. I can lace the mid foot nicely for stability and have plenty of room for my high instep. There is no rub at the achilles. I prefer size 11 even though some other shoes I wear are 10 1/2 . The Vibram sole and padding are the best combo yet. Hiking with a 30# pack over rocky trail is tolerated well. I plan to stock up on the 9+ as Altra has a way of needing to change things every year or two.

The Altra 9+ lone peaks are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn! That applies to all shoes ever including the lone peak 9s. I don’t know why but my wife agreed as well. Yes the vibrams make them great for the most technical trail but they are also as comfy as slippers for hanging around.

Ive recently climbed over 500ft of rocky near verticle elevation in these and I was truly Satisfied with the performance I also use these shoes to cross a river and my feet stayed comfortable walking the trail even though they were soaked for a little while they also dried out really quick. I still have a hard time believing that I could return these shoes in any condition within a year thanks to REI membership.
