This bike is legit!

Bought this bike a few weeks ago and love it! I have ridden it very hard over rough terrain i.e. rocks, roots, ruts, mud, water etc. No problems at all. This is my second Ghost bike that I have purchased. My first was the Kato 5 hard tail that I have punished for over a year now and it has never broken down. I wanted an FS and jumped at chance when the SLAMR 5 went on sale. You can't beat the value! Top of the line components and suspension at a killer price. The rear Fox shock comes with the EVOL sleeve which smooths out the bumps and sticks like glue to the trail. The front and rear shocks are fully adjustable to your weight and riding style. What's not to love about this bike!

Rides nice, but annoying internal routing issues

I bought this bike 2 weeks ago and have taken it on 2 rides, about 15 miles each. I've taken my $500 hard tail on similar rides multiple times with no real issues, but after the first ride on the SL AMR 5, I noticed one of my shifter cables was dramatically shorter than I remember. When I turned my handlebars about 15° to the right, the cable would rub against the frame. I thought I'd go on another ride and see if this got any worse or was actually caused by riding the bike. During the second ride, my bike started shifting down whenever I'd turn my handlebars to the right going up a technical section. It was annoying, but I finished the ride and noticed that my opposite shifter cable was now pushed waaaay out to where it could easily get snagged by a branch or something on the trail. My dropper post cable was also significantly longer from the frame to the switch. Not sure what could be causing this...too long of cables from the factory? I now need all of my shifter cables replaced, as they both got scuffed up while pulling them back out of the frame entry. Two rides. $3200 bike. All kinds of issues already. If REI can't give me a good solution to this that doesn't have to be messed with after every single ride, it will be getting returned. Rides nice, but I kind of can't help but scoff now, looking down at my top tube which boasts its "German Engineering"...isn't internal routing supposed to mean LESS maintenance?

OUTSTANDING

I only have a couple rides on the bike as of yet, but I am very pleased so far. I demoed a few comparable spec bikes beforehand, from Trek and Giant. REI needs to implement a demo program, the parking lot doesn't cut it! I was very hesitant to purchase the bike without a proper test ride, but the price was too good to pass up. I rolled the dice, and I am super happy with my gamble so far. The Slamr performs better than the other bikes and has a better riding position. The bike climbs like a bighorn sheep and descends like its on rails. I am very pleased with the XT group and just need to adapt to using 1 finger braking. I ride very technical trails in Colorado, and the bike soaks up big hits with ease. Super stoked so far. I will update after a couple hundred miles.

GHOST...wait for it....SLAMR

wow. I'm amazed at how great this bike is. I've always been a specialized guy, but their prices are a little extravagant as of late, so I decided to give Ghost a try. I can honestly say this is the best bike I've ever owned. All the components make a big difference, 2x11 gears, 130 mm shock, etc. I would recommend this for anyone looking to make the switch from hardtail to full suspension.

Outstanding value

Perfectly set up as an all mountain bike. Smartly chosen kit, balanced travel on both ends, all mountain geometry. Rides like a dream on both downhill and uphill which is the true test of an all mountain set up. Very competitive in spec and ride with most other aluminum all mountain cycles offered by both the big and the boutique brands. A worthy bike to consider. We now have 2 in the family.

So much fun

Took the bike out for it's inaugural spin yesterday and absolutely loved it. It's my first full suspension and 2nd time mountain biking in the Rockies. This thing ate up all the terrain going up hill and was a blast to let fly down the trail. I would highly recommend especially at the sale price point, absolutely a steal.

I've been on 4 good rides now and love my ghost. I really like the 2x11 gearing. I rode a trek hard tail 26" before this bike. What a difference. The people at REI were very knowledgable and friendly.

Fantastic bike at a fantastic price

Picked this bike up on clearance and after comparing the SLAMR to the Kato. It's awesome. Took it out for the first time on a 16 mile really hard on the bike ride and it performed perfectly. Lots of huge hills and big drops and it had no problems at all. Good job Ghost!

Made mountain biking fun again

It's been a month and a half since I purchased this bike so I thought I would share my thoughts on it. This is my first full suspension bike and I was a bit nervous buying it since Ghost isn't a well known brand in the US and I don't know anyone who owns a Ghost. In addition, there aren't very many reviews on this model. I researched several other brands but and I could not find any FS bike that offered as many XT components at this price point. Especially considering the 35% off sale that has been going on for the last month. As a result, I decided to take the leap and buy it. Any doubt or hesitation I had was quashed the first time I took it to one of our local single tracks. The bike tackled the terrain with smoothness that gave me a big smile. I was able to confidently attack downhills and downshift quickly two gears at a time to get back up the relatively steep hills. Braking was very smooth and easy to ensure I stayed on track. The tires handled the terrain easily regardless if it was tree roots, rocks or lightly packed dirt. The front and rear shocks smoothed out the ride so much that I wasn't at all sore from all the bumps. One of the unexpected surprises from this bike was that mine came with an upgraded dropper post than what's advertised. It came with the KS LEV Integra instead of the Cruxi. The Integra is a better dropper post with a much smoother up and down action that responds very well when called upon. I won't go into how this compares to other bikes at this price range. However, I f you're in the market to upgrade to a mid-priced full suspension bike, I definitely recommend the Ghost FR AMR 5.

Best deal on All Mountain ride

Two and a half years old. 1 ride per week. Still solid and only had to buy the large front chain ring from bashing it on logs and boulders on black diamond trails. But then Ive wished I had a bit more gear other times so great balance way it comes. I ride South Sound area in Washington State mostly but taken it to Moab Ut, Bend Or, and Northern Ca. Every were Im riding anything labeled technical single black diamond in all sorts of weather and elevations. No snow this is not a fat bike nor is it a 9K Race bike. Its all else for less then all others that compare.

Not Impressed with Ghost

I bought this bike in Oct 2016 when it was on sale. The component group (Deore XT) was excellent, but the frame and cable routing suck. This bike constantly had cable rattle issues where the cables entered the frame. Also, the seat dropper post cable was way to long in front, but could not be shortened or the post could not be removed. The last straw was when a bolt fell out of the rear linkage. I know I supposed to check these things but this was after it's first service at REI. I returned the bike and will avoid "German Engineering".
