Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best brand and great dish We went on a 2 weeks kayak trip in Utah and bought a bunch of the freeze-dried food packages, from all brands. This one was by far the better one. The food tastes actually really good, not just good enough for camping, but just good. I would and probably will eat it at home. Also, the fact that you can burn the package after use is so helpful in reducing the trash to take back out from the wilderness. For future trips, I will only take meals from this brand. The others simply don't compare. A couple of comments regarding other reviews on this dish: if the meal is too thick, then just put some more water. I do not like soup, so for me it was perfect as is. Also, if it's too much food, then don't eat it all or do more during the day. But for us, the quantity was just right, I would definitely not want less in there. And finally, there is no chance that this meal tastes just bad. If it's the case, you did something wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Live on the stuff-camping or not! I am a lazy bones- I have been living on this stuff for 10weeks while at school in Atlanta-Whole foods is too far away and Atlanta traffic sucks so I eat this for dinner and lunch. I love it...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty darn tasty! Shared this with my camp mate one chilly morning for breakfast after a spur of the moment overnight backpacking trip. Packed with flavor and everything tasted fresh. Very easy to make. Being who we are though... We felt we could make the same thing for much cheaper ourselves. For anyone not wanting to take the time to make their own backpacking food, this is a winner! It did hit the spot and warmed us up on a chilly morning before hitting the trail. Would buy again if in a time constraint and couldn't make my own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious and filling I bought this a few weeks ago to try before I went out in the woods. It tasted pretty good so I got more for the trails. It's easy to cook out there, light weight, and gave me plenty of energy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hearty at best! Easy to prepare, plenty of food. But was extremely thick( think stick to the ribs) and a heavy meal, probably too heavy after miles of hiking in the heat. Not an unfortunate flavor, but the meat left an odd aftertaste. If you need a full belly to sleep, this is the meal for you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pricey but good Being a medical doctor resident on a 30 hour call shift, the dining room is not always open. Easy to use hot water for preparation. This is a good large meal for one. The taste is very good. Again, the con is the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG So Gooooood! I tried MaryJanes Shepherd's Meat Pie for the first time after hiking to Snoqualmie Lake this past weekend. I was practically scraping the last bits out of the bag. It was just that good. I was also appreciative that it was organic and did not contain MSG. If I would fault it for anything it would be that it has fewer calories than a Mountain House meal which is an important consideration. Still, I plan to continue buying it for future hikes, and trying more MaryJanes meals in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best backpacking meal I've ever had The MJF shepherd's pie is seriously the best backpacking meal that I've ever had. It really hit the spot after hiking all day and then setting up camp in the cold. My only beef with it is that it's really expensive. Even the little pub up the road from my house doesn't charge $12 for shepherd's pie. But then again, I really shouldn't complain about eating delicious shepherd's pie when I'm a hundred miles from nowhere with nothing but what I can carry on my back.
