Great flavor!
I've tried several Peak Refuel meals and this is my favorite. Great flavor, pasta holds its shape, and the chicken was fully hydrated. All this with ONE cup of boiling water. I don't know how they do it but only needing 1 cup will save on fuel for heating up that water. Most other meals, like Mountain House, takes 2 cups of water to rehydrate. Note, I did use a cozy to keep the meal piping hot while rehydrating. Others have mentioned crunchy chicken. Make sure the water is at full boil and if possible, use a cozy.
Absolutely delicious!
If you put the right amount of HOT water and give it the proper amount of time to rehydrate, you will have yourself some Chicken Alfredo better then you can get at some restaurants. Its important that the the water is hot enough. Also it helps to pre break up the clumps of cheese and stuff before adding the water and to agitate the pack while rehydration is taking place.
Pretty good!
There’s a lot of flavor packed into this rehydrated chicken Alfredo! It was taste tested side by side with Mountain House Alfredo and while it was more flavorful: the Mountain House seemed to just sit better. It was good, filling, but definitely not 2 servings. I would get it again.
OMG whuuuut!
Wow I was surprised. After I stirred it I tasted the spoon and said, "Oh no this is going to be gross!" I always rotate through a new product every year. I waited the 10 minutes thinking I was going to just give it to the dog. Gave it another stir. wait for the cool down and ate... I was shocked it's really good. The chicken was the real shocker. It was delicious. Typically I give my mountain house chicken to the dog... this was soooo much better. I hope the batches stay true to taste, as I have found mountain house isn't really consistent.
Delicious
Not 5 stars because it gave me diarrhea, which turns out to be a right pain when you’re stuck outside. Probably wasn’t the water, since I used bottled water. Regardless, it’s delicious, and I’ll willingly take another serving of diarrhea for another bag.
Bland and weird...
After rehydrating to instructions and letting it sit long past due (in an insulated bag,) it was cooked except for these odd crispy chunks of what I can only assume are parmesan cheese. So texturally is was unappealing in that regard. The flavor was unexceptional, given the cost, and the packaging seems heavy compared to some of my other dehydrated meals. Wouldn't purchase again.
Worth every penny
Incredible. Best dehydrated meal I’ve ever had. Definitely more expensive but worth every penny. Flavor and texture was incredible. No dehydrated chicken is perfect but this came pretty close. Tasted like a meal I would eat at a restaurant, was such a great way to wrap up a brutal day of backpacking. I might only buy this brand ever again to be honest.
Taste almost like it came right off the stove!
This was my first time with freeze dried meal. I made this one for my wife who didn’t know what to expect and has never had freeze dried meals either. This one used exactly 8oz of water and rehydrated perfect. She said the noodles were soft and the chicken was moist all the way through after about 10-12min of sitting. Each package has 2 services and there is ALOT of food, enough to split between two hungry adults playing in the snow at 27 degrees. These are pricier but well worth the cost and convenience.
Good flavor, but the chicken is crunchy
I've made this twice and both times, the chicken does not rehydrate properly. The second time, I added extra water and extra time, but the chicken remained crunch. It was edible, but a little weird... Other than the crunchy chicken, the flavor was great.
A Solid Backpacking Meal
Rehydrates and cooks well with 8 ounces of boiling water, a plus when looking to conserve on stove fuel. It has a slight hint of spice on its own, but the addition of a little garlic salt and ground pepper gave it the boost that it needed. The texture is good after the recommended simmering time so there is no need for additional time or water. And the meal also cooks well when transferred into a zip lock freezer bag, allowing you to eliminate the bulk of the original packaging. All-in-all, a solid backpacking meal with adequate calories and protein to refuel after a day on the trail.
