This is my go-to backpacking meal
After suffering through barely edible offerings from other brands when nutrition matters most, I've finally realized that this is as good as it gets, and it's good enough to eat at home. My kids actually ask for it at home every so often. I've found that high altitude backpacking/climbing can sometimes leave me with a bit of nausea/lack of appetite, and this is the only meal I can force down without giving up halfway through when that hits. After a week in the woods eating food like this, it can all start to taste like cardboard, but again, this one has longevity, and can be served for repeat performances. I would suggest throwing in some other meals by Mountain House, but you can hit this one multiple nights without getting sick of it.

Not great at 10,000 feet
Still crunchy at 10,000 feet. Need better high altitude recipe.

Incredible taste longevity

I purchased the previous version of this product called simply Mountain House chicken teriyaki with rice. In 2007 it was delivered but somehow disappeared in a backpack I don't usually use for hiking. Today (April 2020) I rediscovered my packet and cooked it up at home. It was delicious! Not a bit worse the wear for hiding away for 13 years. This a brand I shall always trust and stick with.

Great flavor, wish it had more protein

I've made the Chicken Teriyaki with Rice several times now, and it's one of my favorite from Mountain House, flavor-wise - it's sweet, but not too sweet, and savory enough to balance the sweetness. The carrots and peas are a great addition, and help it feel a bit more balanced than most Mountain House meals (which tend to towards mostly starch and protein). The chicken also rehydrates really well, and tastes great as long as you let it sit long enough. The rice is decent, but it doesn't ever really get to the same texture as non-freeze dried rice, no matter how long you let it rehydrate. The downside: I don't think there's enough chicken. I've been left hungry every single time I've eaten this dish. If they only added more chicken, it'd be perfect.

Tasty easy to eat meal on the go.

A classic backpacking meal, cooks easy like all the MH meals and an easy to eat flavor after a long days hike. I'm currently taste testing all the meals and this one is pretty good.

You Should Try This!

Mountain House Chicken Teriyaki is truly delicious and satisfying! Just the thing to share after a day in the outdoors, or the indoors! For an extra treat, try topping it with sliced almonds. Fabulous! Thank you, Mountain House!

One of the best

This is legitimately one of the best mountain house meals available. The flavor is great and the texture if you use the recommended amount of water is perfect. I purchased a broad selection of pouch flavors for a 10 day backpacking wilderness hunt. Day 3 I ate the first teriyaki pouch and was immediately disappointed that I had only ordered 2. This flavor broke up the trend of the "good" flavors which are stereotypically cream / dairy based (stroganoff, biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, etc.) perfectly and made sure I did not get tired of them too early. Definitely recommend.

Yummy and gluten free

Delicious! It rehydrated well and was tasty. For me, it was one serving, but I do have a good appetite. I am sensitive to gluten and dairy and it is free of both.
