Great light, but...
This light was awesome. I recent purchased 2 new kayaks for general recreation and fishing. I knew that I was going to be fishing in the late evenings and be paddling home in the dark. This light is small, light, and easily carried, stored, is very bright and emits a general overall great level of light in the immediate vicinity of your personal watercraft. It allows your watercraft to be seen from a very far distance, offering the safety and compliance I was looking for. I also have a small fishing boat, so was looking for a multi-purpose light that I could also use as a stern light on my boat. Well... I attached the suction cup to the top of my 8 hp gas motor, and was as happy with the effect on my boat as my kayak. Unfortunately, as I was motoring back to camp in the dark, the suction cup let loose, most likely due to the vibration of the motor, and the light fell into the lake and sank. I did not tether the light to the boat (I know, my bad). The positives were that the light is waterproof, and stayed lit under the water (est. 100 hours). My buddy who was also heading back to camp passed over the light in the lake, and thought it was an alien spacecraft under the water. It bugged him out! For grins, the next night we happen to motor down the lake and the light was still shining brightly from the bottom of the lake, under the water, but still clearly visible on the surface. I regret that I inadvertently littered. In reality, I was hoping that this light would serve dual purposes, and I'll most likely buy a second one, for at least use on the kayak.

Sinks like a stone
I bought this light recently to use for night fishing in my kayak. First complaint: the suction cup did not work at all on my yak. I typically don’t trust a suction cup, but this one seemed heavy duty so I thought I’d give it a shot. It didn’t stick at all. My yak is a sit on top that is slightly curved on the back, so I assumed that was the problem and put it on the cargo area which is flat. Still no luck. Well, I decided that I would just clip it to my tackle box and call it a day. Fast forward half an hour: I go to grab some tackle and have to unclip the light to get to my gear. Having wet hands, I dropped the light. Considering this light was built for a kayak, which you use on the water, you would think they would have thought to make it even the slightest bit buoyant. They didn’t. That light was at the bottom of the lake faster than I could bat an eyelash. Needless to say, I won’t be buying this again.

awesome light--will keep you

I used this product on three night paddles recently while paddling from Frt. Pierce, Fl, to NOLA. Both times I was highly visible in my outrigger canoe from at least 1/4 mile away (I know this, because I was in communication with folks on land while I paddled in to meet them). Between this light strapped to my aft iako, my headlamp, and the reflective tape on both iakos, my OC1 was lit up like a mini-cruise ship--minus the horrible emissions and not very well treated sewage. I've also used this light when camping, as it's easy to hang in the tent, and is extremely bright. I would not do a major--or even minor--excursion without this light.

The perfect solution

Besides being light weight, easily mounted & stored, and in compliance with Tempe Town Lake's requirement for a 360 degree stern light or face a $100 fine, (and a red or red/green bow light). it's two LED's make my kayak highly visible without ruining your and other boater's night vision. I've used it on 2 moonlight paddles and people who use those ultra bright head lamps are to be avoided because their vision is largely limited to the narrow range of their head lamp as opposed to someone who's eyes are adjusted to and depending on the moonlight. When they turn their heads to see your face, they can ruin your night vision. Excellent product for my needs.

Lights, Kayak, Action!!

Surprisingly bright and solid. Meets USCG requirements for a stern light. I do recommend a nice head lamp if you’re paddling after pitch black skies are upon you.

Not for textured boats

I love this so much that I have two, however it only attaches to smooth hulls, so if you don't have a completely smooth hull (like my neighbors, whose kayaks we often borrow), you have to find some other way to attach it. The connector hook is great, so if the suction does fail, you don't lose the light. It is definitely visible at night from far off, as we've tested it, and its so bright I keep it behind me so I can have some level of night vision. I keep these in the trunk of my car and use them as emergency lights. I've also taken one camping once and used it like a lantern on the table during storms. I also have dunked them underwater when clamming at dusk in the shallows. Lots of creative uses.

Great light period.

I use this light at an anchor light on my sit on top kayak when I fish late night or before sun up. I fabricated 3 foot section of 1/2 PVC pipe into a mast, then added another 7 inch piece of 3/4 inch PVC to sit on top of the 1/2 inch and hold the light. I screwed everything together, use bungee and clips to connectall the pieces in case I roll. This allows me to put the light above my head for true 360 degree visibility by others around me. I place the end of the pipe in a scotty mount, which I custom cut to lock it in.

Great Kayak Light

I've had this light for several years, using it for night paddles in the Seattle area. Reliable, bright, waterproof, and good battery life. However, I've just returned from a two month paddle up the inside passage, and I'm even more impressed. I kept this light clipped on my back deck, exposed the entire time, and it still works like a champ. Other supposedly waterproof gear eventually failed, but this light is still going strong. Fantastic!

Pretty Sweet

I have used this little light for two reasons... #1 - Attached to the back of my boat paddling the lake at night to make me visible to motor boats etc. The suction lasted the entire time but the chord was a good piece of mind to ensure it didn't fall of the boat. Light is bright but not a great flashlight to see where i'm headed. Paired with a headlamp might be best. #2 - as a lantern on a campsite table. Sweet little light.

Kayak Lighting

I was very disappointed . Lanyard material was poor quality and fell apart first time I used it. Very hard to attach and detach lanyard. Suction fair but not good for all surfaces. Cost more than other lights advertised. Two other people had same light. Lighting good but we all agreed not practical as is.

Safe and bright Paddlers Light

I frequently paddle at night and this light makes me feel much safer when other larger boats approach me. The LED light has a substantial suction cup that really works. I like the way the light reflects on me, as I paddle, so that I can be extremely visible. I also like the ease of battery replacement.
