a swing and a miss
I think I would grade it at 2 1/2 stars I guess. There seem to be quality ingredients which I value, not much junk or things you can't pronounce. However, I don't think Heather's Mom made great spaghetti :-( This is more like a thick meaty chili-like texture with sparsely populated tiny little 1/8" noodles. And the flavor is off, I can't put my figure on it, maybe it's the spice. it begs for some parmesan cheese to tame it. Considering the price point it's a big disappointment.
A good alternative.
I've had many bad experiences with other freeze dried food on the trail. I would say that this was a good substitute to other brands. I like how it had grass-fed beef versus the other brands. But my friend and I tried this on the same trip and we both this this will be a good meal to fall back on. Pros: packs down smaller than other meals. Calorie dense for size. One of the best meals that I've had on trail that wasn't fresh fish from a lake. Cons: Biggest con is that its pricey. The cook time is longer but I did not have any issue with re hydration.
Impressive
Someone found a way to mess up spaghetti. Packaging was great, instructions easy. But the core of the product, the food - tastes like it was burnt and over seasoned with herbs. I had tried mountain house and it was too salty. I like the idea of dehydrated foods, the texture was perfect, it rehydrates perfect, but oh my - Heathers mom likes the taste of cardboard. I didn’t think you could mess this up, but you did. Very impressive Heather. Patrick
Better Than Your Moms Spaghetti
This might have been the best dehydrated meal I’ve ever had! So stoked to see GF and Dairy Free options by this company, usually very tough to find that combo.
Our favorite go-to for a yummy meal when day campi
I've been getting my little one out for some day camping and of all the freeze dried food meals we have tried, this is our favorite. We always add a dash of sea salt to these for flavor and they are delicious. The noodles are fine and tiny which is fine by us. It's predominantly meat it and suits our gluten and dairy free lifestyle while remaining a yummy dish that completely satisfies us as flavor is concerned and hunger while playing hard in the outdoors. And it does so with quality ingredients.
Backpack Meal
Okay with calories and content ingredients. Flavor decent but did no care for texture.
Terrible
My husband and his crew took these meals up to the Yosemite high country to do work on a high Sierra camp. They all ate heathers choice as that was the only option available here, and they all had severe constipation the next day. Additionally, the meals contain 80% of your sodium intake for the day and take 20 minutes to rehydrate. So, basically they were all in pain in the backcountry, and the meals tasted terrible. Terrible option. Stick to the classics.
Makes the backcountry even easier
Love this flavor - it is my favorite. Helps me stay fueled when hiking and backpacking without extra weight. But, I also love there are no fillers and other processed stuff the food.
Comfort food
This reminded me of my Mom’s spaghetti. After a long day hiking it is great to have a meal that tastes home cooked.
Love the Spaghetti!!!
