I bought a few of these For an upcoming backpacking trip and tried one out. I enjoyed it so much I ate another one for dinner later that night. If anything, just slightly salty but I think that’s to be expected in any dehydrated or freeze dried meal for prolonged storage. Really good. Peak refuel has probably the best nutrient profile of all the backpacking meals I found so far. And if they all taste anywhere near this good, this brand is all i will buy. I did repackage them in quart size freezer bags for my trip for weight and space savings. Again that is the same across all brands I’ve found and expected. In the original packaging these are good for five years. Definitely will buy again.

I don’t like freeze-dried food. Mostly because it usually tastes like this meal. The flavor is decent, but the chicken stays hard and tough. I didn’t care for this. But as far as freeze-dried foods go, this one is average.

Best freeze Dried Meal I’ve tried

I did not think I would like this at all. I bought a bunch of meals from different brands to try and had put this one off til towards the end. Wow was I wrong. This is the best of any I’ve tried. Its like real food. Its very much like the inside of a cheesy chicken casserole youd make at home, or as close to it as youll get on the trail anyway. Better than many frozen meals Ive had. I’m buying more for backpacking and for emergencies. The kids would definitely eat this, if I dont finish it first.

Easy, filling meal

This was my first PEAK meal and it did not disappoint. This meal did not require much water, was easy to prepare, and was ready very quickly. But aside from that, the meal itself was very tasty! One of the guys I was backpacking with had the equivalent Mountain House meal, and everyone agreed that the Peak meal was more delicious.

To DIE FOR

My very first Peak Refuel meal and it is to DIE FOR. I remember cooking it and thinking that I wasn't actually all that excited to eat (crappy backpack meals were a thing...) so I didn't feel overly hungry. I took one spoonful of this and was absolutely shocked by how tasty it was! The mushrooms were amazing and earthy, and the chicken was perfect! Well let me tell you, my appetite came back full force and I inhaled the meal. Ever since, I have to bring this meal with me when I camp. The rice also rehydrated nicely and I never had any crunchiness. You don't even need much water to make it, which is really nice. It was certainly tastier than the meal I had for lunch the next day from a different brand.

Creamy

Easy, packaging keeps the heat of the water, I found the water amount suggested was just right, but this was much too creamy for my liking. Others in my camp had the same meal and loved it.

Exceeded My Expectations

Homestyle Chicken & Rice far exceeded my expectations. These are hearty, creamy, and taste absolutely fantastic. There are large chunks of chicken, vegetables, and the sauce is super-creamy. We love to take these meals on our day hikes and use them for picnic lunches. We'll split one between two people for a perfect lunch portion. We also take them on section hikes as an amazing, hearty dinner for one. They're so easy to make, with only 1 cup of water to boil and a few minutes of wait time. No dishes to do afterward except your spoon! Bonus!

Evidence is in the bag!

The evidence is in the bag! Those big chunks of veggies combined with everything else makes this meal a winner. If you're searching for food on your next outing, I would highly recommend the Homestyle Chicken and Rice! It's the one you'll want to buy two of for your multi-day trips. I just completed another backpack trip with a friend whose food was from a different company. He was amazed at the small amount of water needed for my PEAK meals compared to his. Needless to say he was thirsty the next day while I was full, content, and hydrated.

Great hearty trail food

Doesn't taste like "trail food". Very flavorful; even my picky 7 yr old liked it.
