The taste is great and we have been ordering for years. It does need to sit for longer than it says unless you like hard noodles. I was very frustrated to find that they changed the portion size. It is MUCH smaller and will not feed two people. Especially if you have been hiking all day.

Good Flavor, but...

The flavor of the cheese was pretty good considering it was prepared by pouring boiling water over the mixture, but the cheese was not totally smooth and the macaroni a little crunchy after following the directions. I purchased two packages and plan to try the second with a little more water and a few extra minutes of rehydration time on my next trip. If it makes the cheese smoother or the macaroni softer I'll update.

My favorite meal!

One of my favorite meals. I don't usually eat mac and cheese on a regular basis, but it's my favorite go-to meal when backpacking. I've also been taking it out on winter day hikes. There's nothing like a hot meal while sitting in the snow on your way to a mountain summit!

Disappointing!

I stopped into my local REI to grab fuel and a camp meal. It’s only my second time trying one from the Mountain House brand. The fettuccine Alfredo with chicken was excellent but I wanted to try something new. This Mac n Cheese was very disappointing. There’s way too much sauce and the noodles did not thoroughly cook through. I followed all the exact instructions and let it sit for the times noted but it was like chewing on tough meat. The orange colored slimey sauce made it unappetizing. Very unfortunate considering the price. I will try some of their other meals but this one was not it.

Kid-approved!

My two boys (7 and 9) shared this on a backpacking trip. They loved it and said it was as good as the Mac n’ Cheese mom makes at home. This might be a stretch, but for trail food this stuff is pretty good!

Soupy cheese

This would be more appropriately called "cheese soup with macaroni". I would have preferred a little less soup and a lot more macaroni.

Decent flavor, but not super filling for two

Nice yellow mac and cheese, good texture, and ready pretty quickly. You might want to have something else with it if you're sharing though. It is two portions, but seems a little smaller than other 2-portion meals, and without protein or veggies, it might leave two people hungry.

One of the best backpacking meals

Easily one of my favorite backpacking meals. The cheese is creamy just as the title says. The only thing I would suggest is to leave the noodles to cook for longer than the packet says. I noticed my noodles were not completely cooked when I followed the directions on the back of the package. I also combined this mac and cheese with small packets of buffalo chicken to create Buffalo Chicken Mac and cheese. Highly recommend!

Best Freeze Dried Mac and Cheese

I have eaten this for many years now and it is my daughters favorite. Not too salty and really creamy. The only negative was what the other reviewer said. It takes a lot longer than suggested to hydrate. I have had good luck soaking this for more than 20 minutes constantly stirring. On the plus side, the noodles have never been soggy.
