The shoe instantly fit my foot. It was like a supportive glove. They have quickly become my favorite shoes to wear anytime. The the aggressive tread is amazing outdoors for doing yard work and running on the trails. I will say that the mesh upper however is not supper supportive on inclines where you are leaning to the side. Other than that on the fit side the shoe breathes well and has shown resilience to wear and tear so far. The one catch is you want to wear them everywhere and especially when it is messy outside given the tread however the mesh upper lets a little more moisture than I would like with a shoe that is designed to perform. Overall still a big fan and I will be ordering another pair shortly.
The REI Swiftland MT Bluesky is an interesting shoe. It features an extremely nice, grippy vibram sole, which is by far the highlight of the shoe. It is about as grippy as any pair of hiking boots i have ever owned. The build quality is decent and the commitment to using environmentally friendly materials is commending. The part where this shoe gets weird is the upper. It feels like the designers were struggling between making a road/rail trail running shoe and a trial running shoe. The toe protection and support of the knit upper is not great. Because the support is not great it makes me want to avoid using it for trail running on technical trails. I took it out on some trails in the white mountains in NH and just did not feel extremely confident in the grip going over terrain with lots of roots. I also found the toe protection and foot protection to be worse than most other trail runners I have used. The grip, again, is excellent, but feels wasted because the upper doesnt let you put down the same kind of effort as the sole does. So the reasoning above led me to try it on the road/flat dirt rail trails. It performed well on rail trauls and tame terrain. I did not love the feel of the cushion and mid sole on pavement. So my general take is that it is a good shoe that needs to be designed either further into being a trail shoe or further into being a road running shoe. It is in no man's land as it stands now. Kudos to REI for keeping the environmental impact low.
I really, really like these sneakers! The far exceeded my expectations. The are exceptionally comfortable with a thick, soft sole. They have been supportive and energetic while walking and running on a treadmill and banging out 1 hour sessions on the stairclimber as we prep for Havasupai. My feet are not tired afterwards. They’re also very lightweight and breathable. Great summer shoe! I also love that there is no tongue to slip to the side while running. They’re easy on / easy off. Treads on the sole are great and grippy. You can’t go wrong with Vibram! They’re similar to my Salomon’s, which are my ‘go-to’ hiker. The rubbery covering in the toe box and heel prevent scuffs and stubbed toes and might keep your toenail from ripping through if you’re a wiggler. It’s a nice addition! I do wish they had some reflective materials for night runs and walks with the dogs like my ASICS Lite- Shows. My only real gripe - they’re white and I can never keep anything white clean.
Designers spent too much time on recycled product usage and not enough on design. Pros: lightweight, breathable. Cons: Narrow toe box, Heel to Toe drop is too drastic= 8mm, loose heel, super bright white. I will begin with the Pros. The shoe is well constructed and lightweight. There is plenty of cushion and a nice stack height. That is about where it ends for me. Cons: The toe box is fairly narrow. Being as this is constructed with a stretch fabric upper, my small toes on each foot pushes out over the sole. Many running/trail shoes have an extra set of eyelets further towards the heel as a way to "snug up" the heel. These do not, which means my foot slides forward and jambs my feet into the toe box which means a loose heel. Not ideal for downhill trail running. The 8mm heel/toe drop is too drastic. My preference is 4 or less, optimally 0. The white color is too white...especially for a trail runner. I had a huge mud stain on the shoe within 2 minutes, before I even left my property. I ended up dying them as a way of covering the stain and in an attempt to diminish the severe white color. It seems as though a tremendous amount of thought went into the materials used over practical usage. If you read the description, most is about WHAT is used to create the shoe and how it is better for the environment over how the shoe is good for you. Who will like this shoe: Runners with a more narrow foot. Those who like a higher heel-toe drop. Those very concerned over what materials are used in the shoe creation. Runners who don't mind their shoes being stained with mud/dirt. (Which I don't mind that much, it is just so noticeable on a white shoe) Who will not appreciate these shoes: Runners who like a more snug heel, wider toe box, and lower heel-toe drop.
I’ve put quite a few miles on these and I’m very impressed with how they’ve held up. The first thing you’ll notice is how light they are in comparison to the level of cushioning. The bounce on the ball of the foot is really, really nice. Plus I really love the integrated tongue. I frequently get rash from the rub on my ankle and that totally went away. I’m very, very happy with these trail runners!
Really comfortable shoes for your indoor workouts or just walking around town. These are not gonna be hiking shoes in my opinion, especially in this color. But they are extremely comfortable walkaround shoes for your neighborhood, going on bike rides, at the park etc. The structure is pretty firm but I feel like they would not take a significant amount of abuse so I would probably baby them a bit. They are extremely lightweight and you could use them as slip on and slip off shoes.
After putting a little over 60 on them I'd say this is a pretty good pair of shoes, but a few things kept it from being great. It is a lightweight shoe, has a wide foot bed and is very breathable. Initially I was happy with the support and comfort, but after about 20 miles the insoles seemed to have lost their cushioning and a new set of Oboz was put in. I should have done this as soon as I got them. The shoe laces are another issue, they have to be double knotted or they'll constantly need to be tied. This is a good pair of shoes, but not great. Decent comfort, lightweight, breathable are the high points but a few small items keep it from being a great shoe.
I read the reviews and still bought the shoes. I really have to agree with most every review. So here's my thoughts. TREAD: Love it, Love it, Love it COMFORT: I find them very comfortable for smooth trails. However, you will feel every rock and root you run over. At the same time I ran a pretty technical 11 mile trail race and it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I would never use them for a Ultra Run distance. FOOT SLIDES: (-1 STAR) YES, THIS IS A TERRIBLE PROBLEM. I you are going down a steep hill, there's no stopping your foot from sliding and slamming into the front of this shoe. The shoe does not allow you to tie it in a way the prevents your foot from sliding forward. That is the worst part of the shoe COLOR: ARE YOU KIDDING ME... WHITE... WHO MADE THAT DECISION. However, if its the reason they only cost me $40 then I'm good with white. OUTSIDE MATERIAL: I LIKE IT: 1. it washes in cold water very well and comes back out looking really white. 2. it streches so much that I don't need to retie the shoes. I just pull the back heal and slip in. BACK PADDING (UGH) the padding right behind your Achilles is a nuisance. If I tie the shoes tight to keep them from sliding the padding on the back of the shoe hurts my Achilles. I have to leave them a little looser than I'd like. WOULD I BUY THEM AGAIN: I'll buy them all day long for $40, but I wouldn't pay list. REI MESSAGE: Build on this. There are some things I like, but you gotta improve on this.
Super comfy, these Swiftland shoes are great for hiking and has good traction. I got white color which shows the REI logo at the back. Arrived with free shipping which is a great benefit of REI membership
Runs Narrow and a little short, I went up a size. I don’t consider my feet wide. When compared to Merrell I’m a 12 and this I needed a 13.
