For the North American market the UG4 is a quantum leap forward from the previously released UG2. Relieve Sphere and optiFOAM specifically are new components that take an already established UG line up a full level to being a serious competitor. Visually UG4 looks overconstructed, there is a lot going on, but it is remarkably lighter in hand and underfoot than I anticipated. Weighing in at 10oz UG4 hits all of the desirables: durability, stability, responsive, confidence-inspiring, and balanced. This shoe checks all the boxes and passes the all-seasons checklist for running in the Cascades. Another homerun from Salomon!
I bought a pair of these after struggling to find a long mileage, forgiving, and comfortable shoe for my weirdly wide feet ready for Marathon des Sables this year. I was not keen on moving away from the S-Lab shoe as I appreciate these are a better shoe 'technically', but these are just what I need. I have since bought a second pair to use for the race as these will be well used by the time it comes around in 8 weeks. These are definitely more about comfort for the long haul rather than trying to squeeze every last bit of speed out, although also not a slow shoe either.
So far these are a great pair of trail runners. I recently took them out for a 5-mile run on a rainy, muddy day and they performed really well. The traction was excellent and the cushioning stayed comfortable throughout the run. The colors are bright and vibrant, which I personally like. The lacing system works just as well as it has on my previous shoes from Salomon—secure and easy to adjust. The overall build quality feels very solid, which is exactly what I’ve come to expect from this brand. Overall, these are another winner and definitely worth the price.

This version of the Ultra Glide has great support, a characteristic of Salomon sneakers, and that's the most important thing, how confident it feels on the feet. It's said to be lighter in this version and maybe so. Also, the quality of materials is excellent. As for appearance, when looking down at the toe, it's not a great-looking shoe, to me, and even looks conventional for a Salomon sneaker (compare to the old DRX Bliss, for example). I hope this isn't a change in Salomon's design philosophy, because I can buy Skechers on my own if I want to....
I recently got my 1st pair base off my own research prior to ordered. I am thankful every day since, they seem to almost mold to my foot every step I take, the comfort is next level and the design is inline with the every day culture we live, priced phenomenal, literally changed my cardio workouts in a way no other shoe to date has done, these will win you over in more ways than one if you are not already a fan! Even sent a pair to my brother who is a hard shoe critic, Enjoy!
I rated these shoes 5 stars because I really love them, but I am still searching for the right size after two tries. Let me start with the positives, they are soft underfoot, not quite Zegama 2 soft, but close and way more stable. I feel comfortable in all types of terrain in these, including rocky and technical, and they only feel a little bit unstable in sharp turns at speed. There is no rock plate, but they are much more protective than the S/Lab Genesis. I feel like these shoes can kind of bulldoze over stuff. They also pick up the speed nicely. I wouldn't say they are super responsive, but they aren't dead either. Great shoe and the grip is good enough. My issue is I got my normal Salmon 9.5 and it was too narrow and shallow in the toe box causing numbness. I sized up to a 10 and it felt better overall but it's now a bit too loose in the toe box and the movement is causing hotspots. I generally like the lacing system Salomon uses, but let's face it, it's not the best for really dialing in fit when having these types of issues. Really great shoe, so I'm going to go back and try a 9.5 wide if I can ever find some in stock, but it's a bit frustrating and I don't even have super wide feet.
These shoes are phenomenal. The shoes is wide in the toe area which is always a problem for me but these give you plenty of room up front. Where these shoes are absolutely the most comfortable shoe Ive ever worn is in the footbed. It has so much cushion that you feel like you are walking on a cloud. I LOVE THESE SHOES!!!! You will not be disappointed if you give these a try. Hope this helps someone make their decision.
The sole is fantastic as usual. We knew it would be as it's a carry over from the S/Lab Dust I've had for a while now. The new upper is noticeably lighter and doesn't require any break in period. Straight out of the box they are ready for everyday use. I'll definitely be buying another pair or two of these before they move to the next generation.
I have never had a pair of shoes feel this great! Ordered a half size up, and glad I did! Amazing!
