I got these after finally exhausting all the Peregrine 13s that I stocked up, and after backpacking well over 100 miles of rough, rocky trails in them, I have to say that the 16 is better than the 13 overall. The new sole is super sticky, and I trust the grip even more than the 13. Compared to the 13, the forefoot seems roomier, but it does not reduce stability for scrambling. and it seems to protect a little better. I don't notice the slightly increased stack height. It's still light and dries quickly. Durability is excellent. And it comes in so many great colors that I can't decide which ones to get next!!!
Not as secure as the 15’s or 14’s. Not great for trail running, maybe for a walk.
They’re really amazing. I went on a trail run/walk and it felt like I was walking on clouds. I did sprain my ankle since they’re not ankle length but they’re amazing and look good.
I was really trying to force myself to like this shoe, but after 20-30 miles I realized I didn’t like it as much as I loved the peregrine 13 and 14 and I returned them today. I felt like my foot was slipping sideways within the shoe every time I stepped somewhere that wasn’t side to side flat. I even tried REALLLY tightening my laces which I’ve NEVER done and it didn’t help. This was with a regular width shoe btw which is what I always buy. I also was getting pain in the balls of my feet. I could definitely feel the sharp rocks on the balls of my feet more than the previous models I had. Basically, the previous versions I had, I wore them and never thought about them. These shoes, I was constantly thinking about my feet slipping or how I could feel the rocks more under the balls of my feet. The trails in Tucson, AZ are very rocky and sharp. These shoes are probably fine in a more tame type of trail like in the forrest or something
The fit is good, they feel secure just like the pair I bought a few years back. These have more cushion in the ball. But just like the years old model, not good for hardened, easy trails as they’ll really work calves which ultimately make the legs work harder. Standard fit has more width than other shoes, a plus , as I usually wear a wide. So like my old pair I had in Arizona. Good for softer, technical, rocky, rooted trails. Not an overall trail runner. P.S. REI, work on the reviews page for mobile. This thing is all over the place
I usually don't buy Saucony - their products are often cheap, scratchy polyester found at Big 5 Sporting Goods. But this edition of the Peregrine was different. High quality materials: protective plastic rand, rubber outsole, water-resistant upper. Functionality: easy-to-use lace system, rigid yet mobile outsole, supportive yet neutral insole, aggressive lugs, midfoot/heel lockdown, rock plate - a legitimate trail runner. Not sneakers dressed up as trail runners (with plastic lugs and "fast" designs). 4 mm drop accommodates frequent use of both regular and zero drop shoes. The only gripe is more protection under the balls of the feet. The heel and midfoot are sturdy, but the forefoot feels a little minimal. Overall, an impressive surprise from Saucony.
Thank you Saucony!! I have been wearing peregrines for years, and in my humble opinion these are the best ones they've made. The new vibram sole is great, I think the shorter lugs actually give it a more balanced feel without sacrificing any traction. The cushioning is perfect. They feel very soft and also very wide and planted. They have a very secure feel. I think the uppers are a great balance of good durability and toughness while still feeling extremely breathable and light. I love em. More colors would be nice.
Second pair of saucony peregrines I’ve owned, love them! I bought the wide version this time, and they feel great. The regular width runs a little narrow for me, but the wide are perfect. Perfect shoes for the mountains!
The heel width looks precarious. I bought a pair of Peregrines 2 years ago I ran in them for three runs and rolled my ankle twice. Given the unpredictability of trails, Peregrines need WAY more stability I later read the same compliant about them in a running mag from a pro reviewer. Wish I had seen it sooner. Given the mold of the sole by the heel and the same narrowness, I would not recommend these to anyone who has any inclination for outer heel strikes,
