Easy and tastes great
Prepared as directed on the package in my home kitchen (no camping trips until later this year unfortunately). Added the optional olive oil for this meal. I liked the consistency--it was hearty and pleasing, but it did have a fair amount of water that was not absorbed. I opened immediately after the 10 minute soak, maybe it would absorb more if left longer. Flavor was very good for this type of product. I tend to like things on the spicy side, and this was not, but I suspect it would appeal to most folks. Good portion size and very easy preparation. I'm looking forward to using this next time out on the trail.
Delicious and easy
My wife and I were car camping in the Hudson Valley, New York. We made this for lunch on a very cold an rainy day. This was a Supra ugly tasty and satisfying lunch. We snacked while waiting the 10 minutes for the boiled water I poured in the package along with the included olive oil packet. The instructions were clear on the package and easy to open and reseal to mix the ingredients without spilling. We shared and ate right out of the bag which made for easy cleanup. The expanding bottom meant it sat upright on the table and could be set down. The mix of lentils and quinoa made for a nice texture and hearty feel. The spice was tasty. I would eat this again. The fill line on the package may not work for everyone. I boiled water and filled to the line and was a bit soupy which was fine for me but my wife would have preferred less water and a thicker less liquid consistency.
Easy simple meal with minimal effort.
The Wild Zora Greek Lentil Quinoa Bowl was easy to make. I just heated up water like the instructions said and added poured it in just like the instructions said. However, when opening the package I made a mess flinging some of the meal. I'd recommend sealing the pouch before tearing the package open. I was impressed it cam with olive oil to add if you desire. The meal itself is a little bland. Some additional spices are salt would help. I made this at home for dinner to give it a try but I feel this would be super easy to eat on the trail. Just add hot water. It is a small package and light so it would be great for backpacking.
Warm Meal on a Cold Night
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I don't think I was expecting much from this product, but used it on a trip to the mountains of western Wyoming. I'd been in the forest doing some strenuous logging in a burn scar and was really hungry. I almost decided to not to change to another meal, because I didn't think the Wild Zora product was going to be enough to satisfy my hunger. I was happy it was an easy preparation, just add some boiling water, the olive oil, stir, seal and wait 10 minutes. I will admit, the pleasant smell that came from the packet after adding the water, coupled with my hunger, made that 10 minutes feel like an eternity! The taste of the product was good. Everything had rehydrated completely. I hadn't measured the water I added, but had filled to the fill-line and there was still a bit of liquid left at 10 minutes, but I was able to eat it with a fork and there was no liquid left when I finished. It may have been it just needed a few more minutes at 8500' altitude, or the 45 degree Fahrenheit temperature may have impacted it, but again, before I finished, all liquid had been absorbed. Again, the taste was good. I liked the amount of spices, although I'm a bit of an addict for high Scoville Heat Unit values and think it could have used a little bit more heat!) I think I was most surprised the the Quinoa was nearly like made-at-home, instead of what I expected. It was a good warm meal, easy to prepare, with no required cleanup. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, the one serving? It really was one serving. It satisfied my hunger and I'm a hefty 250lbs and 73"!
Great for those on a whole food plant based diet
It’s rare these days to find vegan backpacking meal. Wild Zora’s meal was delicious but a bit on the smaller portion size. The Greek Garden Lentil was a perfect mix of quinoa, tomatoes, spinach, and mushrooms. While I ate mine at a park without the olive oil because of a WFBP diet, I still found the meal tasty. The quinoa would sometimes get caught in the bag, so it’s probably better to eat with a spoon. Overall, I would pair this with other foods if I wanted a more than 270 calories. I’d recommend it to others who would like to have a vegetarian meal that doesn’t taste like backpacking food.
What a nice warm pick-me-up
What a nice warm pick-me-up! I ate this for lunch today during a cold and raining hike. It was just the right amount for me. Boiling the water and rehydrating took about 15 mins total. All the ingredients were moist and tender. I enjoyed the flavors, the oil adds a nice feeling of richness.
Wild Zora Greek Garden Lentil: Pretty Good!
I received the product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I am not a fan of "instant" meals. The Wild Zora Greek Garden Lentil quick meal was a really nice surprise. Preparation is super easy- pour boiling water into the pouch, zip closed, and when you open it back up, it is ready to eat. The flavor is great. The seasoning strikes a good balance between being subtle and flavorful. I like that it provides 13 grams of protein, and it isn't too high in carbs. I had this for lunch when I took a walk on a chilly day on the bluffs above a local beach. It was nice to have something warm and filling after I'd been out in the cold for a few hours. Overall, I say this is a great item to take on any outing. Heck, it would be good at home too!
Hearty and Tasty
This was great! The quinoa was really good and the little olive oil packet was a nice addition that means you don't need to bring anything extra to maximize calories and taste. It's backpacking food that genuinely tastes gourmet and will definitely be my go-to in the future.
Tasty Quinoa Bowl if You Like Quinoa!
I'm personally not the biggest fan of quinoa, but I thought I'd try it. Getting the product setup was fairly easy, nothing difficult. The instructions say to fill a certain quantity of water, but the inside of the back also has a "Fill to" line. My guess is this line is for folks who may not have a way to measure the quantity of water. I filled to the "fill to" line and my quinoa came out more watery than I am used to. I'm not exactly sure if more water is required to hydrate quinoa at higher elevation, as I had cooked this a campground nearby the beach. Taste wise, the bowl is pretty good! I would say it might need a bit more citrus to cut some of the quinoa's nuttiness.
Use these for work and backpacking!
Fave Wild Zora meal; I use these for work and for backpacking trips or the occasional dinner at home! Im able to finish the whole package in one sitting which is sometimes hard for me with other freeze dried meals.
