Decent as a base or side but not a full meal.

I'm no stranger to backpacking meals, I've had everything from U.S. military MREs to some of the more pricey top shelf backpacker meals. I'd say this one fit pretty squarely in the middle of the the pack as far as quality and taste. Pros: - Slim light packaging - Cooks thoroughly in just ten minutes - Ingredients seem healthy with minimal processing - Good flavor Cons - Small. At 400 calories, it's more like a lunch or heavy snack. - Mostly quinoa - Whilw it tastes good, it's also a bit bland. I liked it, but it's mostly quinoa. It would be a good base for adding more meat or veggies and a fried egg on top. I would have liked much more beef and sweet potato in it. I ate it as a breakfast after a pretty gnarly short hike into a lake. Kept me full for only about an hour and I'm a skinny dude.

Great meal for camping/backpacking

I tried this product on a recent camping trip. The packaging holds up well with the water and the heat does not transfer out too much so it remains warm to the touch after pouring the boiling water into it. After the 10 minute rest period, I re-opened up the package to try the food. The consistency is like rice mixed in with various finely chopped items. The taste was good, the spices were well balanced to give it a consistent flavor throughout. It needed a bit more salt for my taste, but after adding a few pinches of salt it was great. The water soaked up nicely into the quinoa, so no watery mush remained in the bottom. The amount of food was very filling and could easily be split between two people. The packaging makes it simple to pack and store in a pack and take it with you on a hike. Overall it was a great product and will try the other flavors on future trips.

ok

The meal was ok. It tasted about like every other freeze dried trail meal. Preparation was quick and easy. The pouch sealed on its own fine and kept in the heat. The pouch stood up on its own. But this made it difficult to get all the powder well mixed. The bag was super hot so hard to kneed. Could eat right from the pouch. However the bag was rather tall so needed an extra long spoon (which I had) to avoid getting hand in the pouch. Calorie-wise it is about the same as a granola bar. But was more filling and lasted longer. Given the time and set up this makes a good snack or part of a lunch. I would not carry this as a meal unless eating multiples. And unless doing a cold weather trip I'd probably just pack a granola bar instead.

Flavorful and simple

This is the first time that I tried the Wild Zora, and I actually enjoyed it. I took s short day trip, packed a banana and the Fiesta Beef Quinoa Bowl with me. I wasn't sure how it's going to taste. When get to my lunch break time, I found a spot on the beach. Set my things up, opened it the package, the contents look cool, and has pack of extra virgin olive oil in in it too, so followed the instruction and added the olive oil too. Ten minutes later, it was ready, the quinoa and beef cubes looked good. It actually tasted very good to me, the hot pepper is just right. I feel full after it plus a banana. In my case, 10 minutes feels bit short, some of the pieces were still not fully hydrated, I'd add a few more minutes to the waiting time. Anyways, I'd use it for my day trip and my backpacking trips tool.

Backpacker Meal Envy with Wild Zora

For starters I was impressed. On opening the bag I discovered that a little olive oil (nice quality too!) packet was included. I've heard lots of negativity about freeze dried meals for backpacking, but the convenience factor is so alluring. With Wild Zora I ended up with a tasty meal along with the convenience of almost no prep work. I usually over-estimate what I can accomplish in a day and run into camp late. After a long day of backpacking the last thing I want to do is spend a lot of time getting dinner together. The Fiesta Beef meal was well a balanced flavor experience with the quinoa and beef giving a nice base for the peppers and potatoes to blossom. Add in a little spicy pizzaz on the top and this is definitely a meal I'll need to grab again when I'm in REI before my next trip! The highest praise came from my wife who leaned over after I started eating: "Wow, that smells GOOD!"

Can you say Quinoa?

The good; clean ingredients and the quinoa fluffs up to a nice texture. There is a bit of spice and kick to it if you like that. I'd say it's a good alternative if you want a break from ramen noodles for a light dinner, 1st dinner or lunch. The bad; where's the beef? I guess it's the crunchy little balls. I expected something better in that category and given the quinoa was perfect and I times everything well I don't see that changing much unless I went 15+ minutes with the prep time.

Tasty and hearty! (but watch the water...)

This product is a single serving dehydrated meal kit, easy to take backpacking or bike camping. All of the ingredients are included in the package. All you'll need to do is boil about 3/4 cup of water and add it to the pouch, and wait 10 min for it to steam in the packaging. You can eat it in the package or pour it into another container. It's super light weight and relatively flat, to carry and when you are done the packaging easily flattens/folds/or rolls up and will not take up too much space in a trash bag. I love brining meals like this when I'm bike camping. I can get a balanced filling meal with multiple ingredients and complex flavors without having to pack a ton of spices, clean up a mess, or deal with dirty dishes when I'm done. A small stove or other method to boil water, and a spoon or spork is all you'll need. My one note, and this is why I gave it 4/5 stars is that mine was a little bit soupy when I made it. The package says you can add a specific amount of water, or just fill up the line on the outside of the package. I know it's always hard to measure a specific amount on the trail, so I relied on the "fill line". But after 10 min, the food was cooked, but the results were kind of soupy. Things improved slightly when I stirred it all up, but I wished I had used just a little bit less water... My suggestion would be to fill it about a 1/2 inch below the fill line. It is definitely easier to add water (if needed) than to take it away. All that said, the taste was excellent and totally filling. I will definitely grab a few of these packs in different flavors for myself and my kids for our next adventure.

Tasty, high protein main dish

Bottom line, my wife and I both enjoyed the Fiesta Beef. I prepared it exactly as per the instructions and it turned out fine in terms of flavor and consistency. While not overly spicy by Texas standards, it is by no means bland. My wife particularly liked the light spicy flavor. The base of the dish is quinoa, which has a different texture than either rice or pasta, so takes some getting used to. The use of quinoa makes it a complete protein, which is nice for recovery after a hike. My only fault is the size of the portion, it would be fine for a weekend hike, but would not provide enough for a main meal on a thru hike. The fact that it was gluten free was a nice bonus for me as gluten give me heartburn. I also think it would actually work good as filler for a tortilla either as a breakfast taco or a meal along the trail. All in all, I think the Wild Zora Fiesta is a tasty and easy to prepare trail meal.

Good for Backpacking Food

I liked the water or water and olive oil option. Asds flavor and choice. Tasted better than a lot of other backpacking options and not too heavily seasoned. Always appreciative of the self making bowl. When you're up there every ounce counts as we all know.

Bland - not for me

Texture was good but the flavor was really bland. I did add the olive oil but that didn’t contribute any flavor really. I ended up doctoring it up but some extra seasoning packets from another meal so at least it wasn’t a total waste.
