Dehydrated herb roasted chicken quinoa...EXCELLENT
This is a wonderful meal for the trail! Even though I'm not on the trail at the moment, I had to try this and review it. It's super light, I could carry many packs of this and never notice a weight difference. It mixes in the resealable bag that it comes in, just add 3/4 cup boil8ng water mix and reseal for 10 minutes. The quantity when rehydrated is great, definitely enough for a single person meal. The best part about it was the taste, it was really great in flavor, it would not feel like you were away from home when eating this. The hetb roasted chicken quinoa was definitely a hit for me and my husband. We will definitely be adding this to our trail and overlanding supplies.
Tasty Meal
I received this meal for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. And honestly, it wasn't bad; the herb roasted chicken quinoa bowl was super easy to make and fairly delicious to eat. The flavors were kinda bunched up together in certain spoonfuls, but I assume that's my fault for not having shaken up the product enough (the directions say to do that). The package included the olive oil that was optional, which was nice, and it was easy to seal shut the package and let the water do its job. The water fill line was the only downside; I really hate when the line is marked only on the outside so it's hard to tell when to stop. Consequently, I added too much and had more of a soup; still tasty but not what I was going for. Overall, it was good and something I'd take again (or another flavor in this line) on a trip.
Good but where's the chicken?
I was really interested in this once I opened the package and saw the separate olive oil packet. I really like when you get the option to add things like this. Be it for flavor or added calories. Had a really nice chicken bullion smell and bits of spinach parsley and carrot. Cooked it up with the recommended 6oz of water. The consistency was right on, not too soupy, not under cooked or under hydrated. Taste was good the texture was, well, quinoa, so If you like that this is for you. The issue I had was the absolute lack of chicken. It's the second ingredient in the list next to the quinoa. I had to make sure it wasn't just chicken flavor. I began by eating it out of the package (a plus) but dumped it into a bowl just to see if I was missing any chicken bits. Still nothing. I may have got a odd manufacturing issue, or unless the chicken was chopped so fine, I would try this one again and if the chicken shows up could be a nice addition to my rotation of meals I like.
Decent flavor, awful texture
Pros: takes less water to prepare than many other trail meals, decent flavor. Included olive oil was a nice touch. Cons: texture is too grainy even after giving it an extra few minutes to soak. I didn't finish it.
My search for better freeze-dried meals continues
Fair. Ive been searching for a healthier alternative to the usual freeze-dried meals. Most are so loaded with sodium and enough calories for a full day in one meal. The chicken, if it was actually in there, was so finely diced that I'm not certain it was in there. Sometimes meals like this sound better that they are. Quinoa is pretty easy to make from scratch, just as easy as adding water to this bag. The consistency was more of a gritty baby food than actual food. My search for better freeze-dried meals continues
Better than expected
If you’re considering this product I assume you’ve tried quinoa before and you like it. I usually don’t look for healthy food when buying freeze dried meals so I was skeptical to try this. Definitely add the olive oil. It was flavorful but not the best texture. It’s on the lighter side compared to other options but highly nutritious and packed with protein. I’d consider this for future trips and I recommend it as a light meal.
Delicious and felt fancy but was so easy
Delicious, super easy to prepare and eat since everything happened in the packet... this was perfect for camping and would also be perfect for backpacking. Felt fancy with the quinoa and the spices, but only required the boiling of water. The little packet of olive oil was a very nice touch. My only mistake was letting my son try a bite, and then not wanting to share it with him. :-)
Good Bowl with Healthy Ingredients
The preparation was really easy--just boil water, pour and stir. The taste was okay, but a bit heavy on the turmeric. As I continued to eat it, it got better with the mixed-in oil. The ingredients are all organic and great. Although I did not take it camping, it would be a really easy set up. I would give the taste a 3/5 and the convenience a 5/5.
The best! Finally fresh-tasting backpacking meals.
Wild Zora meals are the best in the backcountry! Had these and Patagonia Provisions on my last trip and, well, there was no comparison. I could eat these quinoa bowls for days and days.
Not bad!
Love the ingredients, although chicken was minimal. The olive oil really made it, as otherwise would be way too dry. I suggest adding a slight bit more water than it calls for… or some wine! 😉😋
