A smartly equipped bike that performs!
Love the 11spd cassette! Getting used to the remote seat post adjustment. I cut the bars down 4 inches. Great mix of slx and xt shimano parts. Suspension is buttery smooth. Great bike! Im 5'11" 185lbs and the medium frame is a perfect fit for me.... i am more of a technical rider less of long distance rider. 8-12 miles over rocks and roots and i fall in love every time i ride it!.... plus the colors... black and red...yup.
Great Trail Bike
This bike is awesome right out of the box. I couldn't find much research about the Kato FS 7.7, but trusted the REI bike tech and jumped right in. The Kato is an excellent performer both up and downhill. I have not noticed any pedal bob, and the Fox fork and shock work great together. The gear changes are flawless and very fast. I highly recommend this bike.
First full suspension - great buy
Middle aged guy that started biking with my son last summer after 25 years off my BMX bike. We jumped in with both feet and I upgraded my one-year old hard tail to this. Two rides so far (13 miles downhill and 7.5 miles cross country) and it has been terrific with the 1x11 gearing, dropper post, and great suspension. The rough, rocky technical trails that we rode slow on are completely different trails with this bike. Being a cheapskate, this bike is great and hasn't disappointed one bit.
Great full suspension bike
Very happy with this bike. At the REI sale price the bike is a bargain with excellent all Shimano components, all Fox shocks, and a nice-looking aluminum frame. I especially like the 11-speed Shimano XT which offers extra range uphill and downhill over the 10-speed version available on other bikes in this price range. Both front and rear shocks offer on-the-fly lockout and stiffness adjustments, which is great. Dropper seat has limited range, but works well and is a very useful feature. The Stella Italia seat is actually fairly comfortable and I plan to keep it on the bike. REI got this bike in the store quickly and did a fine job with assembly and setup. The bike is really a "cross country" style bike designed to be light and fast, but works great for me as an all-mountain bike. The tires are the only weak point to this bike that I have found. I have found that the frame will accommodate up to 2.4 inch wide tires, depending on the brand and how thick the tread is, so these can be upgraded.
Digging this bike!
Lots of higher-end components for the price. The 1x11 drive-train is sweet and I am really enjoying (figuring out the the timing of using) the drop seat post. Fox front and back. Nothing but good vibes so far!!
excellent bike!
Bought this bike after doing a ton of research. Was using a department store bike that kept breaking and couldn’t keep up with the abuse I was putting it through. After a few rides of the Kato I completely fell in love. For the price this bike in completely specced out with fox suspension and 11 speed Shimano drivetrain. I wasn’t familiar with the ghost brand but after doing my research I had to have this bike. One of my best purchases!
Really happy with it!
New to MTB, but live with roommate w/20 years' riding. He gave thumbs up. Glad he did. So far have ridden greens and blues at Marshall Mesa/Dowdy Draw & Betasso in Boulder and in Fruita, and loving it both up and downhill. 6'3", XL, went w/ flats.
Amazing mountain bike
This mountain bike is the highest quality. I bike with a group in Colorado and a few of them have purchased this bike due to how much they love mine. Great design, high quality and ALWAYS great customer service at REI.
So far so good
couldn't find a single review for this bike except from 2015. its running fox hardware all around which provides ample of fine tuning to your ride style. 1x11 is flawless, suspension is fluid and doesn't have any weird noises or flexing. brakes are solid. bike is pretty light and is in the trail platform for having 130mm. upgraded to this bike from my GT Verb comp. only upgrade bike could use is more solid tires and maybe a shorter head tube.
Great value bike
This bike is a great value for the money. And its backed by REI. There are better bikes available, but you will be hard to find this good a bike for the money. Especially with this solid of a component package. Background, I am coming from an XL Santa Cruz Superlight. 26" wheels. 120mm travel. I am 6'2" and I purchased the XL Ghost Kato. I think that I am in between a L and XL. I went XL and I am glad that I did. When I compared the Ghost frame to my old Santa Cruz Superlight. I noticed that the cockpit setup in the Ghost is smaller than my old XL bike. The Ghost also has more ground clearance ... the Ghost sits higher. I have two rides under my belt so far and I love the smoothness of this bikes ride. Shifting is crisp and the dropper seatpost is a great addition. What I would prefer: I would like shorter stem. But that is a cheap correction that I can do. I wish the frame was carbon and I wish the bike had a little more suspension travel (140mm). But a carbon frame isn't realistic at this price and the suspension travel was known prior to this purchase.
