Great bike
I just bought this bike today. I have been riding last years slamr 5. I am very pleased with my Ghost and REI. Amanda, Mike and Spencer have all taken very good care of me and my bike. I appreciate all of them and some I did not mention. I really like the 1x11. I will get used to that quick. Thanks to REI and Ghost. We will be together for along time. Skip.......6/26/17
Awesome bike
I wanted a bike that had great components and aggressive, and this bike gave me that. its heavy but not bad. I love mountain biking but I’m not competitive, I enjoy a good ride and a soiled ride. But I bet I can compete and do great in a race with this bike.
Spec corrections
Couple notes about errors in the Tech Specs: a) rear shock really is a RockShox Monarch Plus R Solo Air Standard;; b) crankset is really a Race Face Aeffect 32T'; c) bottom bracket is a press fit; d) brake rotors are 200mm front, 180 rear; e) Rims are ARC 27. Great ride, and even though it’s a 2017, still a good deal.
what.a.BEAST
My first GHOST bike was the Kato FS 7.7, and it was a magnificent bike, climbed well and handled well. I am looking to get more into bike parks and bigger jumps, so I upgraded to the SL AMR for the beefier suspension and the amazing value. Let me tell you, the Kato climbed better even though this is not far off. This is not a dedicated XC bike. However, when going downhill...OH.MY.GOD. This thing felt SO planted, soaked up every bump with ease, felt so nimble, and was a BLAST. I am so stoked for the adventures to come with this bike on my side!!
Phenomenally fun on downhills
This is my first mountain bike I bought in a few years and my first full-suspension. I much prefer the down over the up, and I'm happy to say that down is SUPER fun on this bike. I've never loved full suspension for climbing and the Ghost SLAMR X 5 27.5 is no different, but it climbs just fine to get me to the fun part.
Slammin!
This bike hits the sweet spot for me in terms of price and capability. 150mm of travel front and back, a sturdy enduro style fork, 2.35 tires, and a dropper. It is lighter than most competitors despite the heavier yari fork compared to the lyric. Also, the internal cable routing is masterful. I had to give up my carbon hardtail 29er due to a bad disk in my back and am loving the long travel on this bike. I find myself taking harder and more creative lines just because I can. Navigating rock gardens is a thing of the past, I just get some speed and blast over them now. I set up my suspension pretty plush and am willing to sacrifice some climbing efficiency for the ability to smash my back wheel over stuff. There are only a few uphill hairpin turns that were easier on my hardtail but other than that this bike is far superior. I think this model also the sweet spot in terms of components compared to previous and subsequent models, according to my online research. At the sale price of $2500 out the door, it’s pretty hard to beat. Do yourself a favor and get it!
