Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sand & Dust Free Camping This sand-free mat has become considered essential equipment for all of our camping. We do a lot of white water rafting - frequently camping in sandy environments. The mat allows sand/dust to filter down through the mat - but not back up. We use it primarily in our kitchen area - it keeps the mess down. The mat is very durable without worry about tables & chairs on top. There's nothing worse than using a campsite where the previous occupants have dropped a lot of food or litter - this mat generally keeps the bugs/ants away - we don't contaminate the site because we shake the mat out in the river.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the RV Used this mat this weekend on the first RV trip of the year. We always used the standard woven plastic mat sold at all RV shops - never again! This mat kept absolutely all grit and sand out of the RV. It is amazing in how effective it is in keeping the area clean of the sand and dirt that gets tracked in. Swept the floor of the RV out and it was almost completely clean. We plan on buying a second one to expand the area it covers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from don't go to the beach without it! Perfect for the beach! Sands goes right through it. going to buy a smaller size too! We bought it for our camping trip in December, have used it 5 times since. We've eaten on it, spilled chocolate milk on it, kids rubbed chocolate candy on it, and worse....yet it all comes out clean with a little water...good as new! Can't live without it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for car camping! This is a great product for car camping. as it is much too heavy for any kind of packing. It does an excellent job of keeping the dirt and such out of the tent. A quick shack and it is ready to fold and pack back into the car.

Would a porous mat like this work well as a tent footprint in grass, sand, or dirt campsite? Seems like a good way to protect the bottom of the tent without trapping water between the footprint and the tent bottom.

Asked by: Litedesign
We do not recommend using this mat as a tent footprint. There are no waterproof materials used in the construction.

Would this work well on grass that has been freshly rained on? Would it keep your butt dry?

Asked by: wetbutt
This mat is not waterproof and will most likely not keep you dry if used on wet grass.

What is the best way to clean this? Can you put it the washing machine?

Asked by: Kej
CGear recommends washing with an outdoor hose or it can be jet sprayed to better remove debris. If necessary a light amount of detergent can also be used, but machine washing is not recommended.

From the comments, it sounds like some people us this mat to stand on when cooking or as a door mat. It this OK to do? Is it strong enough?

Asked by: fiddlercrab
This mat is strong and durable so it does work well as a door mat or to stand on while cooking.
