Held fast in 25+ mph winds!
I bought these to use in a recent attempt to ski around Crater Lake. I made sure to spend some time fiddling with them before I left, and also cut out the pictorial instructions from the package to take with me. They worked fabulously. I was incredulous that the line would hold in the slot without additional wraps or lock knots but hold they did. All four of them. Highly recommend. My only complaint is that the small plastic figure 9 clips are easy to lose and lose one I did….but I’m not hesitating to buy replacements. In their defense, one of the four lines didn’t use a clip, I just tied off to a tree. I wasn’t careful about making sure where I stashed the extra clip. Doh! And! The lines are SUPER bright at night .
Great for guy lines
I bought these as guy lines to replace the stock string on my hammock tarp. These are exactly what you would expect. The Figure 9 works really well as an anchoring point and really allows you to cinch the line tight. The line glows when hit with a flashlight which really helps when navigating around your campsite at night. I would say the only negative about these are that they are a little thicker than I expected and getting the string unwrapped from the package took a while. I think the thicker string will really help for higher winds and you only have to take it out of the package once.
These kick BUTT!
I also mainly use these for securing my tarp over my hammock! They are much nicer than the ones that came with my ENO Dry Fly. I carry WAY too many luxuries with me and these are so lightweight they pay for themselves as I can carry more... The only caution I have is that you can get a LOT of mechanical advantage with these. I tightened my tent guide lines a little too tight and a windstorm ended up putting the pole right through the roof when one of the side loops failed. So be careful not to tighten them up too much! I have also looped two lines together to make a cloths line when trekkign through Central America. And so many other uses... Oh and the lines are actually 8´long!
Should come with every tent
We recently bought a new tent and I had read in the review section that the particular model we purchased did not come with reflective cord. Having already been spoiled with the reflective cord that came with our REI 1/2 dome, we picked up a set figure-9's. The reflective cord works great, but to our pleasant surprise, the tensioners are really excellent. Our first night out we slogged through a rainstorm with 30mph winds. The only lines we didn't have to re-tension the next morning were the ones held by these figure-9's. Not only are they fast and easy to set up, but they don't slip at all when wet.
Great camping/ backpacking accessory
I bought this tent line kit as a "just in case" I need something for quick guy lines. Oh man, I'm glad I had these with me when I took the family backpacking in the Channel Islands National Park. The islands have what are called "sundowners", where at sunset the nice sea breeze turns in to a 50-60 mph wind vortex ripping through your campsite. I've rarely had to use guy lines, but this situation definitely called for it. Tied these on each tent and cinched everything down really fast. Quick, easy, and sturdy. Once each guy line was locked in place, I never worried about them again. The wind didn't die down until after 10:30 pm. I was very glad I had this kit for each tent.
Excellent Visibility
Bought these reflective lines to attach to my rainfly during high winds. They are handy and easy to use. These lines worked well at pulling my rainfly tight so there was less rainfly material to get caught by the wind and flap. The lines are also highly reflective so you can see them well at night.
Great, versatile option for beginners!
I watched REI's wonderful series of learning videos about camp site selection, setting up a tent, and using guylines to improve structural strength. They even have a handy one on knots! But when it's dark out and the storm is rolling in, sometimes you need to get camp ready in a hurry, and that's where these lines excel. They make quick work of attaching and anchoring your guylines, and setting tension is a breeze. The reflective material is highly effective and the extra length of the lines gives you greater flexibility in selecting an anchor point. The printed instructions are durable and show several methods of securing the Figure 9, and that also means tearing down camp is simple as well — no picking at small knots with your fingernails necessary.
My favorite guy lines.
These are my favorite tent guy lines. MUCH better than the ones which come with most tents. They are super easy to use and adjust. I've used them to hold the windwalls on my Overland awning and they are very strong. Unfortunately I don't have a good picture of them in use. the only thing which would make them better is if they had some way to store the cord when not in use. I end up with little rubber bands which helps, but would be better if something was integrated. Would be 5 stars if they had something like that. Because without it, you're usually untangling the lines before you can use them.
Reflective: A+! Figure 9: A+ Packaging... C-
I do like these, and the "reflective" advantage is really good! Watch the videos and a few practice runs, the Figure 9 attachment becomes a breeze to use. Be careful when you open the package--it's packaged tight and you could cut a line like I did--fortunately, just a few inches... but I recommend caution AND that the company re-designs the packing.
Fantastic purchase for tent rope
I bought this in October of 2021 to use for our waterproof layer of our tent to hold it down further with serious wind. The tent only came with enough rope to tie down 4/8 places and we learned the hard way in the upper peninsula in September that we needed to tie down all 8 places. We had some really high winds on our October 2021 week long camping trip by Lake of the Clouds and then off of Lake Superior in Copper Harbor at the tip. We were very thanksgiving for this extra rope and the visibility at night was great with a flashlight because it has reflector rope in it.
