Nifty Bit of Gear
Really happy with this purchase. The gear line is a great bit of gear to have with you on a car camping trip. Might not take on a bike camping or UL backpacking trip just because of the size & weight - it feels a bit bulky for the purpose it serves. On the other hand, it seems like you can find tons of uses for it. Photo attached shows it hanging in our shade structure - you can see the variety of things it can hold - even used the maleable ends to hang a little trash bag. You could even string it across the inside of a car if you needed a weather-safe place to hang gear or dry clothes. We haven't actually tested it inside our tent because I'd be a little worried about stringing this with a bunch of weight to our tent poles.

Surprisingly sturdy

Started off with one of these, and went back for another. They've had heavy use in the month I've had them. Great in your tent for all those lighter odds and ends that tend to pool in the nets, although it does (expectedly) sag if weight is not distributed. Also useful in camp, although a bit short at 4 ft (easily attached to one another with the included ties). Nice that it comes with 10 S-biners (2 sizes), and although I was skeptical about how much weight they could hold, they've handled full bottles, wet gear, lanterns, etc. Can't speak yet to long-term durability, but pleased so far.

Perfect solution to lacking center mesh canopy

I bought this because my new tent does not have a center mesh canopy, which I used all the time in the past to keep small necessary items easy to find in the middle of the night. The line seems very durable, and honestly, the price of buying all those S-biners individually would cost more than this product anyway. I also love that I would be able to remove it from the tent and use it for a variety of other purposes as well--fantastic bang for the buck. I'd recommend caution using it in a tent though, only because you could easily hang more than your *tent* could support. (For instance, the product photo showing pans and water bottles and such hooked to the tent loops would probably be too hard on most aluminum-pole, thin-fabric tents.)

Works surprisingly well for hanging clothes

I bought this for a 2 month trip across Europe -- it was the only clothesline-type thing I could find in stock at REI. I was pleasantly surprised at how useful it was despite being pretty straightforward carabiners on a line. The twist-cables on either end worked well for attaching to any sort of hook or bar I could find at each room I stayed. This even held up securely in 50 mph winds at a stay in Istanbul. Anyway, if you need a solution for drying your clothes that is portable and attaches pretty much anywhere, this will do it.

so handy!

We're definitely not those people who go out and waste money on stuff just for the sake of having it, we hate gimmicks and we're always looking to see what can be reused before buying new (and we don't "buy one in every color"!). that being said- this was a great purchase! last time I went camping, I clipped my dog leashes, our sun hat, dried my bathing suit, dried my water shoes, clipped the dogs food bag on it so they couldn't get in to it, strung up a night light, and we tied our garbage bag on it (and probably more things). It kept everything tidy, out of the dirt, easily findable at night, and out of the grasp of the dogs. If you need a gift for someone that just won't gather dust, this thing is awesome! We've also used the gear ties for about 1000 other things.

Things don’t slide to the middle!

Previously just used extra rope strung between trees to hang stuff, which works in a pinch, or for wet things. What we like about this is that we can separate items and they don’t all just slide to the middle! Do wish the orange ties were a bit bigger, sometimes difficult to find small enough trees or branches to set this up where we are.

Totally worth it

I've had my eye on this Gear Line for awhile, but wasn't really sure how it would work in my tent or if I'd use it outside. I ended up using it in my tent and sort of made a z-shape by hanging it from tabs already sewn into the tent ceiling. I hung my latern, my head lamp, water bottle and a few other light weight items that I somehow tend to lose in a one person tent. If I hadn't had a nice tree next to me to hang my swim gear on, I would have used the Gear Line for that, too.

Really Handy!

I went car camping and tied this around a tree to use as a galley. it was perfect for hanging pots, pans, and utensils to dry after washing, as well as a small garbage bag for trash. How did i ever manage camp kitchen without it?! i mean, yes, the s-biners are plastic, but there are 10 and you can always replace them. Smart buy!

So useful. Best go-to gift

When people come into REI looking for a gift for an outdoorsy person, this is where I point them. It's one of those products that most people would never think of, but is amazingly useful once you try it. I have 3: - one hangs my hats permanently. - two is in my car and helps so much with car living, particularly drying stuff after surfing - three goes backpacking with me when it's a luxurious trip with slower friends. Anyone who organizes by hanging things will love this.
