Rated 5 out of 5 by from Survived a 12-mile hike on the first use-- LOVE I bought these boots 2 days before I went on a huge 12-mile hike and was a little nervous about these because I did not even attempt to break them in. I didn't get any hot spots and my feet were in perfect shape after the hike! I felt like they gave me great ankle protection without there being too much support. There were a couple times where I definitely would have rolled my ankle had I been wearing a shorter boot. They felt heavy duty but also were not too heavy. I am glad that I didn't go with a straight GTX boot like I had originally planned to. These boots protected my feet from rocks, water, and blisters. I will definitely suggest these to other people!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No breaking in needed! These are the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever had. They never had that break in period; they were perfect from day one. My feet have never been sore after I wear them hiking. I was definitely in between sizes. I kept going back & forth between the 7.5 & 8. The 8 being too long & the 7.5 just a bit too snug. The person helping me brought out a 7.5 wide by mistake & it gave my toes just the little bit of extra wiggle room I was looking for. I don't have wide feet by any means so just an fyi for anyone out there struggling with sizing. Dry, super comfortable & with the right socks, warm enough in the cold. What more could you ask for?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My favorite pair of shoes! These quickly became my favorite pair of shoes. I used to dance and I have very weak Ankles so rolling them on the trail used to be a common occurrence. These boots have amazing ankle support without being too bulky or heavy. Not to mention they are perfectly waterproof. In snow, rain, and even shallow streams they kept my feet dry. It took a little breaking in before a pressure point was released on the top of my foot but after wearing them hiking around niagara falls for a weekend I haven't noticed that problem again. I will admit that I have not taken them on a backpacking trip yet however I am headed to denali soon and will let you know how they handle the wear and tear of a more rugged terrain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great support, Great waterproof, Great shoe I bought these shoes before leaving for a 4-day backpacking trip in southwest Colorado, and they were glorious! I did 20+ miles over the course of four days, and my feet didn't blister or feel uncomfortable at any point. If anything, it felt weird to take the Vasques off because my foot was so used to wearing them.... These shoes kept my feet warm and dry even after trudging through a few rivers and some snow. Logistics: I have narrow feet and an average arch. These shoes gave me the perfect amount of support and made my foot stay in place while hiking. And the neutral color is a plus; my shoes came with extra laces that were a maroon/brown color, which I really liked!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice waterproof hiking boot I think this is a great hiking boot and I bought it since I've had other Vasque hikers which served me well. However, after dozens of miles hiked and climbed, I've decided it's too narrow for me and will return it. I've compared soles and it does run narrow. However the boot is well made and, other than the narrowness through the ball of the foot, comfortable after some breaking-in. The boot is full leather except in the tongue area, and thus (probably) more waterproof than most boots. I wanted the most waterproof boot I could find, but unfortunately won't have the opportunity to test that out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit and comfortable, but I've banged up the toes I bought these after my previous pair of Vasques, the Vista Ultradry boots, got manky and beaten-up from caving. The Perpetuum last is perfect for my low volume feet that are narrow at the heel and wide in the forefoot (I tried on the Vasque Breeze boots, but they pinched my toes). This pair is a joy to hike in - something about the rocker of the sole makes my strides long and easy. The only complaint that I have is that the toes have gotten really scuffed up, and I can't polish this leather. They are nicely waterproof too, and stood up well from everything from my job as a guide in California to tromping through slush while visiting my sister in Delaware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Survives a bashing! Original purchase of Vasque Talus was in June 2012. Those boots have stood up well to frequent rugged off track walking and rock scrambling. Recently they performed well on a 2 week off track backpack in remote northern Australia where we continually waded rivers, climbed cliffs and walked all day in wet boots. Soles still look good but uppers show some wear. Two companions had NEW boots give out on this trip. I recently purchased TWO more pairs of Talus boots before the style vanishes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boots! I bought these last Spring, did day hikes all Summer and went on an overnight backpacking trip in Yosemite in the Fall. I usually wear a 9W but went with a 9.5W to allow for thicker socks and toe room for downhill hiking. I love these shoes! They are lighter than most mesh boots. We got caught in a rainstorm and my feet stayed perfectly dry even though everything in my pack was soaked. I never got any blisters, which is highly unusual for me. Traction is good on rocky trails, even when wet. I sprained my ankle in early summer and these were by far the most comfortable shoes for walking once I got back on my feet.

I am going to Colorado in March to hike in the Rocky Mountain National Park. I have these boots and love them, but I was wondering if they would work for hiking in the snow.

Asked by: Kwhitten
I live in Colorado and wear these boots when I snow shoe! I usually just wear a pair of smart wool socks when I go and my feet don't get cold while I'm hiking around. The toe comes unglued after a while. I wish they were reinforced more. But for the most part, these boots take a beating and can withstand rocks, snow, ice, sand, brush, and water. They are fantastic.

I have really wide feet (usually wear an 8.5 D in women's shoes). Are these boots truly a D-size, or should I look at another boot option? Thank you!

Asked by: Gemflint
The wide sizes of the Women's Talus WP Hiking Boots are C width.

How well would these boots be suited to mild winter weather conditions? Specifically, I am referring to the 50 degree average, rainy, snowy climate of a New Zealand winter.

Asked by: alekhaugen
The Vasque Talus WP Hiking Boots are fine for mild winters. You can use various weights of socks to regulate how warm they will be. We do not recommend these for severe cold. In severe cold we recommend switching to using insulated boots.

I run in Brooks PureFlows. Do these boots have a good "bend" in them? I can't handle extremely stiff boots. I hated the Merrell Moab Mid waterproof light hikers.

Asked by: Doven Mary
The Talus WP Hiking Boots have a thermoplastic urethane shank making them stiffer than the Merrell Moabs.

Do these shoes run true to size? I'm usually a size 8.5 should I go a size up or get one with 8.5 and larger width? I plan to be glacier hiking in Iceland and doing the camino this spring.

Asked by: wildmoonseed
These boots do run true to size. We recommend ordering a half size up from your normal shoe size to allow for extra toe room.

I am going to Peru soon & I am looking for a waterproof multifunctional hiking boot that will stand up to amazon jungle, and the high elevation of the andes in their fall season. will this boot work in both climates?

Asked by: vdizzle
The Talus WP Hiking Boots are excellent waterproof, multi-functional hiking boots. In jungle conditions any boot with a waterproof membrane can struggle to vent moisture quickly enough to keep your feet dry. In the upper elevations of the Andes these boots will be right at home.

how well would these shoes work in snow? would they keep my feet warm and dry? need shoes to wear around a snowy college campus. thanks !

Asked by: liv1
These boots are waterproof so they will keep your feet dry, but they are not insulated. If you need a warm boot, you may want to try winter hiking boots as they are insulated and will keep your feet much warmer.

I just bought these and am wondering if I need to treat the leather in any way- either initially or on a regular basis. Thank you!

Asked by: Alison
There is no initial treatment needed for these boots. For best performance, we recommend cleaning your boots on a regular basis. For information cleaning your boots, please view the following article: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/caring-hiking-boots.html
