Wonderful boots - comfortable and good support
These are the best hiking boots I've ever owned. The wide toe box fits my feet perfectly, and the ankle support is terrific. I have owned these for about 2 months and hiked and snowshoe'd about 150 miles in them. There was no break in period and they are extremely comfortable. I did add some waterproofing as I had some leakage in deep water. Despite being (mostly) waterproof, they are breathable and work well on trails, with snowshoes, and walking around town. They are also excellent in very cold weather.

NOT waterproof
While I love that they are lightweight and comfortable, one of the main reasons I bought them was because they said they are waterproof. They most definitely are not. .I have had these boots for two months now and I wanted to give them a fair chance but I am disappointed that they are not waterproof.

waterproof but causes painful ankle bruising

By Day 2 of hiking the O circuit in Patagonia, I had painful large pressure ulcers on my outer upper ankles from the shoes harshly rubbing on them. Hurt so much to walk in these boots! I have skinny toothpick ankles and can't imagine what they would do to a person with larger ankles. Had to leave the top of the shoes unlaced and wear buffs around my ankles for the remaining 6 days of the hike. 1 star (vs 0 stars) because they are truly waterproof and kept my feet dry while walking through rain, large puddles, and shallow streams. Keep in mind since they are waterproof they inherently don't let your feet breath, so you'll have sweatier than usual feet.

Super comfortable, not at all waterproof

I loved these boots hiking in the SW this spring- lightweight, very comfortable, good on rocky trails, supportive, although a bit warm. Nice room for my toes, just the right amount of cushioning and support, they rocked!!! BUT on my first dewy hike back in the Pacific NW, my feet promptly were wet. I dried them out to try again but yep, not waterproof at all. I will see how good Altra’s warranty is, but REI will take care of this if needed.

Like them but NOT waterproof

These are not waterproof. I am so disappointed, I bought them specifically for the ability to keep my feet dry. However, the mesh on the top of the toe leaks water through even just in snow. The darker areas in picture shows where it is leaking in.

I really wanted to love these!

I wrestled with wanting to keep or return these. I love the look of them but the fit was off. I have a pair of Altra Lone Peak 9 trail shoes in women’s size 9.5 that fit perfectly. I ordered these boots in a 9.5 as well and the length and width are spot on…very roomy in that regard. However, my toes still felt cramped, with too much pressure from the top. At first I thought maybe it’s just because they’re a thicker boot with insulation and just need broken in, but I think it’s because of the stiffer waterproofing material they’re constructed with. Ultimately decided to return them. :’(

Not what I expected but ok

These are still great shoes, but I'm disappointed in how they fit. I really love my older pair of Lone Peak waterproof mid shoes, but these are more like a lightweight boot than like a high top runner. The tongue and ankle are really padded and bulky. I wanted a replacement for my old pair. These aren't that, but they're ok.

Supremely comfortable right out of the box!

These boots do exactly what I want them to do, right out of the box! We have a lot of abandoned railbeds in my neighborhood, many of which have been turned into hiking trails. There are side trails that go nearer small rivers or up short hills. All I want to do is walk our dog on these trails! And these boots keep my feet dry; they provide good arch support and ankle support. Most importantly, they accommodate the ginormous bunion on my left foot! Kaitlyn, the REI associate who began helping me, told me about the "zero-drop" insole. It has not been an issue at all! It's very comfortable. I have already recommended the Altra Lone Peak 9 boot to my oldest, who is quite a serious hiker and is in need of replacing her hiking boots.

Great boots for hiking!

I got these boots for hiking in NM when it's rainy, or snowy. I've always bought the low trail runners, but due to an abnormally wet year, I found myself wanting a warmer option that would keep my feet dry. These fit the bill. First of all, they are very attractive in color and style. They fit right out of the box and after wearing them for an hour or so to loosen them up, I went out on the trail and was comfortable and dry. I don't plan to hike through streams or extreme weather (deep snow), so these were the perfect solution. They are also so attractive, that I will wear them running errands in the winter. I'm very happy with my purchase!

Where did my knee pain go?

I am beyond thrilled with these boots! I have had double knee surgery on my left knee, and about 9 months ago, I had meniscus surgery on my right knee. It was deeply torn. I also have some ankle tendon issues that can flare-up, depending on the shoes I'm wearing. These boots have been the only shoes I can hike in, or walk many miles, without knee or ankle swelling developing. They're zero drop, but with great cushion, so my knees don't feel like they're taking a beating. I just can't say enough good things about them. If you have knee or ankle issues--give these a try!
