Heater is very topheavy
I compared the Little Buddy heater with the Portable Buddy Heater for $20 more. I was planning to use it in a tent, and based on the sq ft heating capabilities thought the smaller one would work fine. The Little Buddy heater is VERY topheavy--as soon as I took it out of the box I immediately put it back in and ordered the larger unit. This option felt like it would be unsafe in a tent. I've used the larger option ("Portable Buddy") once and it worked great for what I needed it for. It is definitely overkill for a 2 person winter tent, but I had no trouble getting plenty of ventilation and still heating the space on the "Low" setting.
Good for the right purposes
Important to know: This little guy sits about a foot or more in hight and needs a solid flat and sturdy surface. You also need proper ventilation. It produces an open flame, that can be blown out or made irregular by wind. It produces PLENTY of heat. in the right environment, like a small hunting post (or whatever you call those) or a large teepee or yurt, or a very big tent, this would be great. It could also be good to use when you want to sit outside and be warm but can’t start a fire. #glamping. I Would NOT use this in anything flammable like a small tent, and I would not want to lug it around backpacking. I wanted to use this to heat the back of my pickup truck that I built out to sleep in but the space was to small and unstable. Great product though. Easy to use and lots of heat output.
Works really well, wish it was easier to start
This little heater does put out a good amount of heat as long as the space is small or you're staying close to it. My only real complaint is the process to light it. It has a button you have to press and hold to get the pilot light started, but it takes a lot of pressure to push it and it has to be held down for at least 30 seconds. During that 30 seconds, I could smell the gas escaping from the little tank. No complaints once it was lit, but it would be nice if the process was easier. I imagine someone with arthritis would have a really difficult time, or even someone whose hands aren't very strong. I've used it a small handful of times and it's perfect for warming up a small space while camping in the fall or winter. I definitely recommend it to anyone who isn't concerned with the process to get it going.
Warmth for a cold night
The Little Buddy Heater worked just as described. Provided about 6 hours of burn time and radiant, even heat for my evening of reading in the tent at the shore. Simple set-up and easy ignition.
beating the cold
perfect for our camping trips and to heat up our truck shell set up
Okay with supervision
Great but smelly little heater. Ultimately it just felt a little unstable for me. We could never get a real solid mount with the bottom piece of the heater to the gas can that would have made us feel comfortable having it on longer. Also as you’re using a gas canister whatever you’re trying to heat gets smelly quickly. Would recommend for colder day time use on a very flat stable surface.
Exceeded Expectations
Little Buddy Heater worked as expected and even exceeded listed operation time per tank of fuel. During a four-day camping trip at Shenandoah National Park, when experiencing chilly nights, heater adequately warmed a six-person tent (Ridgeline SUV tent) and an attached SUV. Safety mechanism was triggered a couple of times when we were moving the heater, for example, and it helped me feel more confident in using in tent.
Heats beyond my expectations
This Little Buddy puts out an enormous amount of heat for its size. It takes no time at all to heat up my camper on these chilly fall mornings. The quart-size propane fuel canisters are refillable, so you won't be creating a lot of landfill.
Lil Buddy Kept Us Warm
We camp in a tent (REI Basecamp 6) with a vestibule. On recent chilly nights we used the heater to keep us warm in the vestibule before bedtime.
Won’t leave you cold!
Awesome heater…works/heats very well in heating my 4 man tent in winter (in northern Utah).
