I've been a long-time fan of REI's Mistral pants, having worn out the 2004-2009 model years, and was looking for replacements. Unfortunately the 2015 model of that brand is meant for athletic builds with no curves, so didn't fit at all. After a lengthy search, I stumbled across Marmot's Scree pants, and they fit exactly like the older Mistral pants! They're perfect for someone with a butt and a curves! They are so comfortable, and they fit me like a glove. I love them! I will definitely be buying more!
I am fairly average height (5'7) and can generally get away with "regular" inseams, but these pants run a bit short. I had to check to be sure I ordered correctly because these pants look like they are specifically made for short people. The taper at the bottom of the leg accentuates the problem. The quality of the material and construction are excellent, but the I am going to have to return these pants because of the length. I wish the long version was available, because everything else about these pants is spot on. I would recommend this product to friends, but only to the short ones.
These are the best technical pants I've ever owned. At 5'6 and 140lbs I normally wear 6 in pants. I could definitely wear a 6 in these but sized up for a more "boyfriend" fit to accommodate thermals in winter. These pants are much more water resistant than advertised. I've worn them post holing in though deep snow and canoeing in the rain and stayed nice and dry. I love the zipper thigh pocket to keep my phone handy and secure. The zippered ankles are great for cinching down over boots in the winter. They are comfortable and durable and nice enough to wear out after hiking.
Reviewing for the 2011 edition of this pant (yes it took me this long to write it). These are my favorite pants! I originally got them for monitoring sea turtles in Hawaii and needed a pant that would keep me warm through the nights on the windy beaches while having plenty of stretch to restrain large turtles to identify them. These were perfect! After the season I took them back home to Montana where they have become my only cross-country ski pant (and often my downhill pant as well). I love the stretch for all the bending and movement I put them through while I myself have a slim build. I am also in love with the zippered ankle and draw cord around it- great for fitting over boots or cinching tight to ankles to block wind in smaller footwear and sandals. These breath very well but also keep warmth. Great for winter days, but breathe enough to not roast you in the summer. After almost four years of having these, they only have one small tear on the knee from a serious trip into some lava rock in Hawaii. They haven't stretched out- have always maintained their shape. Way easy to wash. Still water repellent- hasn't wet through yet in four years! (Aside from a few long lunches sitting in the snow during a day of skiing). I got them on sale, but the full price is certainly worth it. Would buy again, but at this rate, I'm not sure if I ever would need to as they've held up so well so far!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These pants have been fantastic. Although I have not had a chance to use them climbing yet, they have been great as light-weight, comfortable shell pants for warm ski days and as a warm casual pant for quarantine. I had to send them back a few times to get the right size, but I did not use the size chart until take three. Use it, it helps. My mom bought the men's version of this pant and loves them as well. This pant (the women's version) is a little more fitted around the thighs and has a lower waist than the men's cut. Would absolutely recommend this product for anyone who is looking for a versatile pant good for climbing, hiking (especially above treeline), and your chosen snowy adventure.
I love these pants because when I travel I know right where my phone is... that right zipper pocket on the thigh holds my phone perfectly and is easily accessible and ready for great pics! Plus, the pant fabric washes well, dries easily and has stretch for comfort. They are especially great for hiking in Ireland, the Pacific Northwest or wherever your travels take you. Have purchased 5 pair over the years and recommended them to other travelers. I plan on buying my next pair when they are on sale, cutting off the legs and hemming them to just below knee length for warmer weather hikes.
I ordered these in a 4 and the Hadley pants in an XS. The hadley fit great but these were too small. I got them buttoned but to do so, I had to pull them up pretty high which caused them to be extremely unflattering (and inappropriate - wouldn't go in public looking like that if you know what I mean) and also too short. I'm 5'8" and got the regular length - I guess I should have gotten the long but the crotch situation would be the same. I guess you just need to try these on to know whether they will work for you. The material and pockets seemed nice but I'm definitely returning them.
I needed comfortable hiking pants that could deal with getting a little wet. These went above and beyond what I could have hoped for. I can go on a hike with dogs that jump in a lake and shake off next to me and still stay dry. Walking in a light rain or in wet grass and still dry. Out in a canoe or other boat and I'm the only dry person when we're done. The front pocket is large enough to hold my phone and still zip closed, so not only is my phone safe but I'm not sitting on it. They have a little stretch, which is great while hiking a steep incline, they are durable and comfortable. I have 3 pairs! Fishing, boating, hiking, walking the dog or just hanging out at the house; these work great and look cute.
The other reviews are right - these run really small. I used the sizing chart and according to the chart the size 2 would be a good fit. Unfortunately, they were too small. The size 4 was a perfect fit. The pants are great. The fabric will be perfect for winter hiking, the cargo pocket is big enough for the phone, and except for running small they are great.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would suggest buying one size smaller than your typical pants. These run large and don't have any sort of internal cinch system. They do have belt loops, but, I personally prefer pants with some sort of cinch system in the waist. Otherwise they're pretty comfortable. My o my major complaint is that I went for a 7 mile hike in the rain with a can of bear spray on my hip and the rubbing of my leg on the holster wore down the fabric. This was on my second time wearing them out. I'm pretty irritated by that is it falls into normal wear and tear and therefore can't be returned.
