The boots are comfortable, with a nice snug fit through the body, and plenty of toe room. There may be a little too much room in the heel for me, and there's some slip, but nothing an extra pair of socks won't solve. I don't think it'd be a good idea to trust these shoes on longer hikes, though. Three days after I bought a pair of sugarpines, the heel loop ripped out. It appears to have been glued into place, not securely stitched. This seems like a weird thing to go wrong to me -- I've laid down thousands of trail miles in Merrells and Montrails, walked right through a good dozen pairs of boots, and never had this issue. Ahnu was not much help. These are nice, stylish shoes for walking around town or for short trails. The manufacturing quality is somewhat questionable.
Lightweight, cushiony, and at least a little arch support. I haven't tried these on the trail yet, but even though these are narrower than the Salomon's I'm replacing, I think they'll be ok. These shoes feel like a running shoe but with additional cushioning in the forefoot. I have plantar fascitis and metatarsal issues so trying to find a shoe that works with all that is pretty difficult. My orthotics fit, without heel slippage. That's huge. Despite some worrisome reviews on other sites about durability, and slippery in the wet, I decided to stick with these. Oh, and "majestic blue" really means dark purple. Not my favorite, but I can live with it.
This shoe is very comfortable. I didn't have to break it in at all. It never hurt me even when I used it to hike/walk around for hours. It works great in snowy, wet, grassy & muddy conditions. The shoe kept my feet warm & dry. The front is slightly wider than other shoes, which were perfect for me, but it doesn't detract from the awesome design & look of the shoe. This pair looks great, is lightweight & provides the perfect amount of support. I would recommend it for someone who likes the front a little wider so that it doesn't pinch the sides of my feet. True to size. I normally wear 6.5 in regular shoes, but I wear size 7 in sneakers. This matched my sneaker size.
This is the first pair of hiking shoes I've bought. I wanted something that I could use when not hiking, and for getting around in Winter in Wisconsin I think they'll be perfect. I took these to Glacier Nat'l Park for a 4 day hiking trip. They were awesome, did well on wet rocks, gravelly paths, up hill, down hill, and even ok in some snow. Even though they are waterproof, my feet never felt overheated. Paired with some nice SmartWool socks they rocked. I had to go a 1/2 size up from my usual shoe because the toe felt a bit tight, but it worked out great! I would get more shoes from Ahnu again, they have a narrow heel and not very pronounced arch, which fits my feet well.
I bought these the day before I left on a three week trip to Russia when it occurred to me that I would need waterproof footwear. Wow! They are SO great! I was walking all day most days, in cities and out in the country, on dry days, pouring rain days, warm days and cold days. No breaking in necessary, just pure comfort all the time. They fit true to size for me; I bought a size up because I wore wool socks. I wish they were the turquoise color pictured; they really are a dark teal. I'm looking forward to wearing them on a walking trip in Japan next year: 900 miles of walking with a light pack on all kinds of terrain. I think they'll work just fine.
I bought 3 pairs of these two years ago for daily wear on a country property, after tiring of wet feet due to dew and ordinary chores. Love them, and sad to hear the new version produced under the Teva label are not as good. I am hard on shoes, these are pretty darn durable. Vibrant soles still nearly good as new. However, you should know that after cleaning them, the waterproofing on the upper fabric wears off. My old pairs are no longer water resistant at all. But my feet love the fit, support, and comfort so much, and the fact that they are not as stiff as Oboz, so I just bought another pair.
My first pair of hiking shoes. As someone who wears minimalist footwear 90% of the time, I realized I needed more traction for hiking. While wearing "this much shoe" takes getting used to, I love the grip and stability for hiking. I wore them walking for a total of ~4 miles before taking them on a weekend hiking trip where I put another 10 miles on them blister free. But I am glad I did the short break-in time. Stepped in a very deep mud puddle and would have been completely dry had the mud not come over the top of the shoe. Cute color and I the low profile is supportive enough.
The arch in Ahnu shoes is a little further forward than most brands of hiking shoes, which works well for my feet. If you're looking for a moderately high, further forward arch, I recommend trying Ahnu. However, I'm not sure if it was the soles or the insoles, but these shoes just weren't comfortable after walking in them 2-3 miles. Even after that short of distance my feet just wanted them OFF, so I knew I wouldn't want them for long hikes. There weren't particular hot spots, just really uncomfortable. Maybe they would've formed to my feet eventually, but didn't seem worth the uncomfortable times until then.
I bought these about 5 weeks ago after an exchange of the black ones that were too stiff for me to get used to. They are waterproof but I do not think they are breathable. My feet were constantly too hot and then cold and clammy which has always been my indicator that they do not breathe well. I like the non-water proof ones I got earlier in the season much better . Otherwise the sizing, comfort and looks were great. I will probably search for another but not in the waterproof unless it specifically states "breathable" I am going to return them and get something else .
I was looking for a pair of hiking shoes this time as I am going to Panama and wanted them to double as street shoes to minimize packing. I have destroyed my arches, and these were the only pair that comfortably accepted my orthotics and are deep enough to not have heel slipping. I took them on what turned out to be a long and steep hike, trekked through water several times, and wow, these are just so comfortable. I was impressed by how much grip they have for a "light hiker" shoe and they seem very well made. All in all very happy.
