Not as expected
Bought this model in March (Khaki) and loved it! I wear it all the time on my long walks because it is so comfortable. Loved it so much that I decided to now buy the same color in black. Surprisingly the black ones are very uncomfortable. Somehow the fit is wrong. My toes feel tighter and the shoe seems slightly smaller. As I was checking and comparing both pairs to make sure I didn’t purchase the wrong model, the only thing I noticed is that they were manufactured in different countries. Maybe this explains it? I don’t know, in summary, very disappointed .
Great, but hard to clean the cream color.
Love them. Nice and wide, stable, waterproof, good traction, good walkers. Get dirty if tromping around, gardening, muddy trails. A job to scrub and time to dry. Wanted to use oxyclean, but it would damage the gortex, so just soap and water and brush. Merrills fit my feet and i have hallux rigidus on my big toe. The soles are stiff enough and upper shoe roomy enough to not bother. I can also tighten the laces which seems to wrap my foot a little snugger for support. I wish they had a different color when I bought them, but I was desperate for good shoes after I landed in Seattle. At 170$ I was shocked, but thats what its come to.
Comfy, durable, and light
Walked/hiked 310+ miles in these this summer (two months). Waterproofing held up the whole time. The exterior is now really warn but the traction still upheld. This is a great hiking shoe. Bulkier than trail runners but just as light. I did get more blisters when walking on concrete so I would recommend using them for hiking on dirt or natural elements.
Good looking shoes
These are nice looking shoes. I had to put my own insoles in them as the arch support was not the best. I wish the toe box was bigger. I cannot speak yet to the waterproof’ness of them but as they are Gore-Tex I have no reason to believe they won’t stand up.
Perfect for National park hiking
Bought these for a trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National payl for light, waterproof hiking needs. Very comfortable through miles of walking and hiking.
Best sneaker -must have for travel
This is the BEST sneaker. I bought it for a Japan trip. In 8 days we walked and climbed stairs equivalent to 3-4 marathons. Kept my feet warm and dry in rain and was “sticky” on slippery wet stone. Best purchase I have ever made and I will now be wearing them daily for snowy days and rainy days in New England. Plus they are great looking. I use the runner holes at the top for a more secure fit so my narrow f et don’t slide forward. I would give them a 10 out 5 if I could. Nice sized toe area so no squeezing for my long toes that usually require a square front! True to size with 9.5 shoe size unlike other sneaker brands. Buy these!
Cushy sole, but overall too unsupportive
It has a cushy sole, but the rest of it is too light for hiking on rocky or unstable surfaces. During my 9-mile hike, my feet moved around too much inside the shoe, and not because it was too big. I have arthritis in my right foot, and I need more support than this shoe provides. It became too painful as my foot moved around. I’m returning them. Also, the little white part surrounding bottom lace hole is peeling away on one of the shoes already after just two wears.
No pain on my Europe trip.
Travelled to London and Edinburgh on the holidays. As a Hoka only user with plantar fascitis, this amazed me. Protected me from rain, cold and 6000 steps per day.
Comfortable and waterproof but maybe not durable
I absolutely love them but the stitching on the toe is starting to tear and I’ve only had them a couple of months
Great, but not fully waterproof
I’ve walked over 60 miles in these shoes since getting them and I wish I could give a higher rating because up until this weekend, I had no issues. It took overall about 30 miles to break them in, I did experience some sores those miles, but have been so comfortable past that. However, this weekend we had some light misting all day and the grass was also damp. After about an hour, I did notice some wetness which is unfortunate since they are advertised as “waterproof”. Other than that though, they are great on all the terrain and easy to moderate hikes. Probably would not buy again though because I was looking for a waterproof option.
