Happy that I was able to purchase this 3 weeks ago. I used it during my hike in Snowdonia. It was raining, but amaze that my footwear did not get wet. The grip of the sole is fascinating during the hike, it’s not slippery. Also, like any other new shoes, its a must to break in.
My husband suggested that I needed a more technical hiking experience. This is one of those times when he was right. The feeling of stability hiking in these boots/shoes makes me feel like a younger person. It is wonderful feeling completely confident on the trail today. I have slipped on ice and in muddy conditions as well as on dirty rocks in the past hiking trails in our mountains. I am no spring chicken but I love hiking. With these hiking boots I feel comfortable and steady on the trails now. I appreciate the excellent craftsmanship and they look great too.
Very comfortable shoe, BUT both my wife and my shoes wore through the material inside the heel of the shoe in less than 6 weeks. We're training for The Camino and have only hiked in these shoes maybe 200 miles since purchase. They are NOT durable. The stitching where the Gortex meets the lining wears through. Not recommended.
Unlike my old Solomon’s, the workmanship on this shoe is terrible. The stitching where the middle, stretch panel meets the side of the shoe, was breaking after 2 uses. I looked inside on the side to find the same thread is used and, as the salesman said, “looks rough”. I looked at the older model if this shoe at the store and it was the old quality, so I traded. Check for yourself before you buy.
I usually don't write reviews but I had to come back to REI dot com to tell you all that these hiking shoes are worth it! I got them for a hiking trip to Norway and they did not disappoint- I encountered very muddy ascents, snow, rocky terrain, and sneaky puddles and these held up fabulously; I felt really supported and my feet stayed dry. They did not need a ton of breaking in and the lacing system worked well for me. Even with all the mud encountered they clean up super well too which is a plus. I recommend these hiking shoes!
My moms always loved Salomon’s so I decided to get myself a pair and omg I love these shoes I couldn’t keep my mouth shut for weeks and they’re so cute! They broke in really easy and are super comfortable highly recommend
Up front, my feet are a mess - high arches, narrow, and no cartilage in the joints behind my big toes due to autoimmune disease. I love to hike, but have had a terrible time finding shoes/boots that support and protect my feet and are comfortable to walk in for any period of time. I tested these shoes and the midrise model of the same shoe. I wanted to love the midrise, but got hot spots on the front of my ankle bone that I couldn't break in. These shoes, however, have been perfect. We went on two moderate hikes (steep and slippery in places, but no scrambling) over the weekend, each about 5 miles. The shoes were very comfortable and very stable. My feet never hurt and there were no hot spots or potential blisters at all. I tend to roll my ankle, and the lateral stability was excellent and I didn't experience it. The toe protection is also excellent - stubbing my toes was excruciating in my old boots, but in these, I barely noticed it. I have seen complaints about them being narrow, but for me, they are perfect. The insoles seemed to have decent arch support, but I did replace them with custom hiking insoles for the additional support and cushioning.
Ive had 2 pairs of the speedcross shoe that i loved for hiking about 6 years ago. These shoes didnt work as well for my flexible overpronated feet. They have mild to moderate cushioning and stability. They well contructed and good grip, very waterproof. But they aggravated my Achilles tendinitis due to not enough stability. Not a bad shoe but not the best for my feet.
Your feedback about the stability level and how it affected your Achilles tendinitis is valuable information that helps both us and other customers with similar foot characteristics understand how this model performs. We understand that different foot types and conditions require varying levels of support and stability. We're glad you found the construction quality, grip, and waterproofing to meet expectations, even though the stability wasn't quite right for your specific needs. Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback about your experience.
Provides good support and stability. Decent tread and look quite durable though I haven’t had them for long. Wore them on holiday in Morocco and they handled sandy/rocky terrain well - felt quite grippy. Overall just really comfy. I have quite narrow feet and they feel fairly snug, I’m not sure they would suit a wider foot
Unfortunately I don't find these shoes comfortable. I think they are a small fit but more importantly they are too hard on the toes area at the front so it becomes painful after only 5km especially on the downhill. It's really a shame as the trail running shoes from Solomon are so comfortable.
