Just received my 2nd pair of Vasque Breeze and I wanted to pass on how very pleased I was with the first pair. I showed no mercy to the Breeze II through several trips in the Sierras and Rockies as well as daily 5 mile walks on my hometown trails. The tread proved to be the weak link as the rest of the shoe was in fine shape. Regardless, considering all the miles I put on them I got more than my monies worth. Side note, I took me a while to break in the first pair because the toe box was a little tight....so this time around I got a Wide size and they fit perfectly right out of the box. Also, no big deal to me, but the Breeze III delivered to my house is darker than the display picture.
I had to buy these because Merrell Moab stopped using Gore-tex in their waterproof shoe and you get wet feet with them now. I bought these on the recommendation of a friend who has worn them for years and loves them. I ended up having to order one full size larger than normal. Others had said that these would need breaking in before extended use. I would not recommend hiking in these out of the box. I found them extremely stiff and will have to see how long it takes before they become comfortable. Moab's come out of the box amazingly comfortable and I would recommend them over these if you don't need a waterproof shoe.
I am not a avid hiker just purchased these, they are a bit heavy but feel is great, nice fit which is the most important thing I was looking for. I tried different brands but the fit and feeling was not there. These were perfect for me. They do seem sturdy shoes. I didn’t find any issues with lacing so far. Lot of people have commented on that aspect but I am ok with long laces, just tie them well. Also the Base is sturdy and feels comfortable inside. I was told that to break into them slowly but I found it good right from day 1. So go for the best feel and fit
Bought a pair of these for a hiking/backpacking trip in the UK and general city walking in London. Broke them in gently on a few day hikes in Vermont- though they needed little break in time. Walked about 40 miles a week for two weeks on city streets getting ready for a one week long 110+ mile backpacking trip on the South Downs Way in July. Very hot and dry for the UK, so the chalky trail was hard underfoot. The boots held up very well during the hike, were comfortable and stayed laced (a real problem with some designs). The trail requires 12,600ft of ascent and the 8.5 wides with mid-weight socks worked as well on the mixed terrain as any boots I've used over many years of hiking. Only minor complaint is that after about 2.5 months of walking and hiking (maybe 400 miles in total) the soles have worn down and I can feel too much give in the insole supports. I expected a little longer service from the shoes (the uppers still look like new).
5'10, 240lbs, I needed a 13 (Wide) and found the Vasque Breeze Low GTX at my local REI. Thought the shoe was a little stiff out of the box, but I really appreciated it on the trail. I wore these on a 30 mile backpacking trip in CO in May. Lots of scree, scrambling, snow, ice and mud. These shoes were great with little break-in time before hand. No hot spots. They are a little heavier than what I was looking for, but that is made up for in the shoes durability and I really appreciated it once I was on the trail. I've been wearing Vasque on and off for 30 years and always seem to find my way back to this brand.
I very muck like these low hiking shoes. Comfortable, with good grip. As I have a wide pair of feet many so called wide shoes are not comfortable, these are. Quite waterproof as recent rains have demo'd
I've been wearing Vasque's for a long time, even though they got weird a few years ago (anyone else try the alien Ultra SST with the Boa?). I need a waterproof shoe for a rainy trek coming up, so I am trying this shoe now. I have a Vasque Inhaler in an 8M, and it fits great. No blisters. But one hike the Breeze III 8.5M and I was getting blisters. I am trying the 9 wide now. Not sure if it's just the stiffer GTX shell or the shoe model, but it's much smaller.
Bad purchase: Sole tread wear is extremely poor: little tread, and what little tread there is wears away quickly. Its unfortunate that Vasque screwed up and otherwise great shoe with a poorly designed sole, because its otherwise a great shoe. The rest of the shoe is extremely well built (one of the best if had), very stable, and very comfortable. I purchased in 2019. I used mine for everyday walking/hiking about 4 to 5 miles/day, half on asphalt and concrete and half on Colorado dirt and gravel trails and some rocky trails. Only lasted about 4 months before tread wore away to a point the shoe was slippery on ice and snow. For that reason I wouldnt buy it again. Hopefully Vasque will fix this.
I am disappointed with the shoes. I have been wearing them quite a bit hoping they will break in without much luck. I find them to be very uncomfortable around the heel and the tongue of the shoe. The material on the inside of the tongue won't lay flat and it tends to wrinkle which irritates the top of the foot and in the heel the hard plastic in the back of the shoe is irritating on the heel. I won't purchase this brand again especially for the price very disappointed.
I bought these shoes for urban use: walking around town and bicycle commuting. For these purposes, they have been very good. I've been on my bike and on long urban hikes in light to hard rains in Seattle, and my feet have remained very dry. They're pretty comfortable right out of the box. On day hikes in the mountains, they've been pretty functional, too. I wouldn't wear them for really hard hikes, or for backpacking, though. My only complaint is that the tread seems to be wearing out pretty quickly. I've only had these shoes for a few months, but I'm guessing I'll need to replace them in about a year. I don't think it's a shoe that will last for years and years. (Note: this is typical for me. I don't have a car, and tend to walk a lot.)
