Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Pros: wide toe-box, comfortable out of box, good traction and good weight balance for putting on some serious mileage. Con: I really liked these shoes when I initially tried them on, but they have a fatal flaw. If you have any heel slippage, the usual solution is to box lace, using the closest eyelet. This shoe has a very small tongue, and when box-lacing, the lace lays off the tongue against your sock/foot which causes the shoe to rub against the lace directly against your foot. Not a huge deal when trying on, but definitely a huge deal when you begin adding trail miles.
I needed a waterproof "hiking" shoe for Iceland. I didn't want to waste travel space with my hiking boots so I thought I'd try these. They worked great! I wore them while sightseeing around town, and since it rained everyday I was very grateful for the water proof quality. I also used them when hiking to waterfalls and glaciers. They had plenty of grip on the bottom but if the hikes would have been more than 2-3 miles I might have regretted the choice and wanted something with more ankle support. My only reason for the 4 stars is I wish there were more color choices.
I’ve had two other versions of Lone Peaks in the past and they’ve been my favorite shoes. These are just as good, if not better. The sizing is consistent for me…11.5 in old shoes, 11.5 in these. They feel very grounded and a little stiff at first. I wore them in some snow this past weekend and snow/dirt rolled right off and they still look perfectly new. Love the green color. Much better in person than in the picture.
With the regular Altra lone peaks I wear a size 9, but when you switch out to the waterproof version, they run smaller so I now know to order a half size larger 9 1/2. Same thing with the Hoka waterproof shoes. Otherwise the Altra lone peak nine are perfect. Minimal stack and zero drop - just what my feet need.
bought these for work, indoors. mainly for the waterproofing and being on my feet a lot. after about three weeks of general wear, the seam on the top left of my right foot began to separate. I've owned several pairs of Altras but this will be my last. does anyone make a quality shoe sub $200 now?
Been waiting for the right Altra to replace my Lone Peak Low All Weather shoes that are a couple of years old. Hesitated because of the poor reviews for the 8, but these are the best. Had to wear them for a few days to break them in, but now they're my favorites.
I was excited to get my new Altra's. Love the wide toe box,the foot bed confort and the traction. But unless you have a thin foot profile the transition from the toe box to the tongue area is not high enough to accommodate the average foot. The tongue ends up irritating the top of your foot. My wife and I both experienced the same issue. So disappointed because everything else is great. Hope Altra will addressed this issue so we can enjoy the benefits the shoe has to offer on our next Thru hike.
Bought these shoes and used them for a 500 mile through hike. They held up great and still have a lot of life in them. They honestly still look great and have tread left. The waterproof works great and paired with gators they are even better!
Fit is great, very comfortable shoes. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good walking/running trail shoe.
I am a woman with large feet and bought this men's size shoe. It is a very comfortable shoe, looks great and is very well constructed.
