Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good I think it's interesting that there are so many negative reviews. This is my favorite camping meal that I've had. I like the taste of the cheese (some people don't) and the lack of salt never bothered me (better not salty than too salty). I'll also add that I normally do not have this while camping but while working late nights in the office (so it's not that I'm so starved that I'll eat/enjoy anything). I prefer it to a lot of the meals that other people have given 5 stars. I would suggest that you try it yourself before you decide if you like it or not. I would also suggest that it is for people that do not like a processed cheesy taste but like a subtler cheese taste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Subtle flavor but good I was tiring of the overbearing flavor of freeze dried Mac 'n Cheese from the larger companies (e.g., Mountain House). My first thought with tasting this product was "Bland" but, you know, I was looking for a grown-up meal--the cheese flavor was much more subtle (see caveat below) and that's OK and it could have used a bit more salt but you can add your own to suit your own taste. I actually gave it 4 stars because the packaging says to add 2/3 cups H2O and my water bottle was marked in oz and ml and I'm not sure how much water that was so I overdid the water and to pour some out (surely adding to the blandness). This is my first try of this product line: I'll try others and decide if I'll stay with it. Cost is also a factor--the markup is significant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally something that isn't 99% salt... I loved this Mac and cheese. Tastes Tastes better than most backpacking Mac and cheese. It isn't super salty and overly flavored. Many backpacking meals go heavy on spices and salt. Not everyone likes that!! This meal is for those people. If you like overly salty flavored junk, buy mountain house and the other brands. It's a bit expensive for what it is but I would buy it again. Oh and for all those 1 star reviewers who discussed some noodles being crunchy - YOU HAVE TO MIX YOUR BACKPACKING FOODS DURING REHYDRATION! I didn't think people needed to be told that in the instructions - must be people who aren't experienced in making rehydrated backpacking meals.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUST SAY NO! This product is 100% awful... Reading the reviews that praise this meal actually makes me angry... I prepared this on the trail twice (should have tried it first)... both times, some of the noodles remained hard, and the cheese "sauce" has no flavor... if you pack this, bring some salt and pepper... the price tag is no short of an insult... just one man's opinion... peace

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sort of OK So I had this package left over from backpacking and decided to eat it at home. I boiled the proper amount of water and stirred well, folded the top down and started the 10 minute timer. It really is easy. However, it should be suggested to STIR AGAIN with 2 minutes remaining so the noodles on top get down in the moisture or they WILL be chewy. Then stir again before you eat. I suggest a long handle spoon and eat from the bag. Someone was disappointed about what it did to his container, well, why get something else dirty? Note this is a sharp white cheddar, had I realized, I would have already known it was a flavor I would not enjoy. I imagine that's why there are some bad flavor reviews. I recommend to a friend ONLY if you like sharp white cheddar and add the additional stir to help prevent chewy noodles. Hungry on the trail I would have sucked it up and eaten then entire pouch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this I do love this mac and cheese more so than other varieties I have tried. It's even better if you add more cheese to it, if you happen to be carrying a block of cheese that you don't feel like carrying. Other reviewers recommended stirring once in the middle of the "cooking" process, which I've done and certainly helps it mix better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good and simple Tried it at home before a trip... Agree with some posts that it was a little salty (although much less sodium than many freeze-dried foods). I think it needs a little more than the recommended water (maybe 3/4 cup instead of 2/3). Added a little nutmeg and pepper and it was pretty dang tasty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MaryJanesFarm Organic We bought this Mac & Cheese last year, and it was in our top 3 dinners for easy camp cooking. We also love the MaryJaneFarms Oatmeal breakfast. Great job REI for carrying an Organic alternative.
