Love this for clean taste
I’ve been using this for several months now. I love it and it works as advertised. I made the mistake of using a nylon bottle brush to give it a good scrub after a long trip. The brush was “safe” and non-scratching, but it has clearly scratched the inside of the bottle. I can see evenly spaced lines where small drops of water bead. I hope that these are just surfaces scratches and not through to the stainless steel. I haven’t noticed a difference in taste, but just wanted warn others to take seriously the instructions to hand wash the bottles only with s soft cloth and to NOT use a bottle scrubber. Love this bottle though and the exterior durability paired with the clean taste of my beverage!
Great for coffee!
I really like this tumbler. I wanted something for coffee that wouldn't taste like metal or whatever was in it last. The size of the rim is perfect for a melitta pour over cone. The tumbler washes out really easily - however, the lid is plastic so it actually does hang on to odors and requires some effort to keep it from smelling or tasting like what was last in it. Like all the vacuum bottles I've tried, this one overstates its ability to keep liquids hot. Two hours is really what you can expect. The scope lid is really nice too. The raised rim makes it a bit more ergonomic to drink from than some of the others I've tried.
Too Cool for School, I would pass on this one!
When I first saw the product I was excited, so as long as you remember to close the lid, if it tips over it will not spill. My only complaint is, it does not really keep stuff hot. I even pre-fill it with boiling water and let it warm up the container first, then quickly swap it out for my favorite smoking hot drink. I diligently close the top between sips to try to "Keep the Heat In", but sadly to no avail. One can tell there is something warm inside, as the outside of the cup bleeds heat, but the inside liquid cools far too rapidly. I think they should make it a little wider and add more insulation to help keep the beverage hot, if you can easily feel the heat on the outside, you know it's not really doing its job.
Back for number two
I love this cup! I bought my second (after a closed Kleen Kanteen got cocoa all over my hands) because I know I can trust it. It keeps my drinks hot and it doesn’t leak. It has traveled on its side in my bag (not intentionally) and it didn’t leak. The top is a little to get used to but once you’ve got it down (always rinse after use!), no worries. I’ve only ever had a little odor on my original cup once (1+ year old and used for both coffee and tea with cream) after a camping trip and solved it with a 1 part vinegar / 2 parts water soak for 30 mins. Let it dry and the smell was gone.
Shivering In Seattle!
Even if pre-filled with boiling water to heat up the container first, and then adding your hot beverage right to the top, it seems like you have about :15 min before the drink gets cold out side in 40-50 F temps. Not impressed with it's seemingly inability to keep things hot, however, other the screw on top (open/close feature) is great and it does keep my cool coffee from spilling ;). As for keeping products hot for 12 hours....maybe in Phoenix but not up here.
The best!!!
Gosh I don’t know what these people are taking about I took this to Peru and Iceland and it kept tea I made in the morning hot all day while I was working outside. Is soooo helpful as a photographer to be able to have this nice twist lid opening - and then shove it in my backpack bottle holder w the same hand, Nothing else compares for me
Sleek and Elegant Mug (Glass Interior is Great)
This bottle is sleek and very simple but that's what I like about it. The glass interior isn't a gimmick, you can see how liquid doesn't stick to the sides as much as something with a pure stainless steel interior. Only downfall this bottle has is the scope top, it's impossible to clean properly and I wish Purist made a scope top that could be disassembled.
Scoping the Purist
I love this water bottle so far. It keeps my water cold all night long. There is zero funky taste transfer from the bottle's materials, which has been my Holy Grail for water bottle searches. It is easy to wash, especially since I don't put anything in it but water. Unlike others' expereince the Scope lid is also easy to wash. I just twist it all the way open and pour hot, soapy water through. The Scope *can* be a little tricky to open but once you get a handle on opening from the top of the lid, not near the lid's base, you won't find liquid unexpectedly spilling down your chin!
Best water bottles available
The easiest way for me to prevent migraines is to have ice water with me at all times. Purist and Yeti have by far the best insulated bottles for keeping things cold. The plastic threads on the Yeti cap will pick up food tastes really easily. If you’re eating cheese while drinking your water, your bottle will taste like cheese until thoroughly cleaned. The scope top on the purist doesn’t pickup any tastes. It does not leak if you are diligent about closing the cap but it’s easy to forget. The bottle could be improved by: lowering the absurd price; adding a carabiner loop; adding more colors
Gimmick
I bought this because I was swayed by the slick marketing video about no taste retention. The problem I’m having is that the lid retains taste and odor. Soaking it in white vinegar doesn’t help. Now all I can drink from this mug is coffee.
