Owala is my new favorite….
There are several players in the vacuum water bottle game. What makes the difference is that the cap on my Owala is head and shoulders above the rest. It has a simple carry handle that is ergonomic and it has the most functional lid on the market now. In one push the lid and the handle pop up and it’s ready for me to drink from it. It keeps my drinks hot or cold, but this is not where the magic happens. It’s the LID…….the drinking spout under the lid is also easy to sip from or if I want to gulp large amounts I can do that with ease, as well. It’s my new favorite water bottle.
Great hydration vessel!
If you need a day to day water/drink jug this one gets the highest marks. I throughly enjoyed using this during my day to day activities. The insulation keeps water cold for over 8 hours during my work shift, where I split time in and outdoors. The lid and cap, which are all one unit, have a unique, and highly functional straw. You can drink out of the bottle like using a straw if desired, but the opening also allows for tipping/pouring out of the same spout. I recommend this bottle for day hikes, work outs, and daily hydration use. It's too heavy for me personally to use on a backpacking outing, but the quality of the product will definitely hold up to the challenge.
Started rusting within months
Loved the bottle until it started developing rust spots on the inside within a couple of months. Contacted the companies customer service and they responded it is not covered under warranty. That rust spots are to be expected in wet environments.
Non existent warranty
Owala relies upon their "color drop" hype to sell products. Not their customer service. These cannot stand up to minor (less than half the height of a typical tabletop) drop without damage that can potentially render the bottle unable to properly insulate. Owala will flatly reject any warranty claims if there is any sign or mention of any kind of physical damage, even when said damage is extremely minor and never caused an issue with other products. I was not trying to get the product replaced because it had been abused, it had suffered (what I thought to be) a minor mishap, and Owala refused to stand behind their product. I would avoid Owala products until they decide to adopt a more customer friendly stance on their warranty.
No leaks + long chill time = New favorite bottle
I am on day four with my bottle and I am already an Owala convert. I carry a tote to work and love to toss in a full water bottle and not worry about leaks near my laptop. With the extra seal on this bottle I know for sure my laptop will be safe. I fill mine early in the morning and my water is still chilled by the end of the day. And don't get me started on the magic straw! I had given up on straw water bottles after so many lousy, wimpy straw attachments. My Owala straw works like a charm and having the option to chug or sip will come in handy once I take this out on the trails for hikes. I love the powdered white finish, too! Going to buy a few more of these for my husband and teens - these far surpass the other reusable bottles we've had in the past.
Almost perfect
I bought the Owala FreeSip for my wife. The feature that mainly sold me was the builtin straw, yet the ability to tip the bottle up and drink 'normally' as my wife prefers straws and I don't. Two items kept the bottle from a five star review, first is the handle. The handle functions as a lock on the lid which means if you want to carry the bottle you need to either lose the lock function and carry it by the handle or you need to grab the bottle or tuck it in a backpack. Adding a carabiner to the handle also defeats the locking mechanism. The second design issue is the bottom, I'm afraid with time that the base paint will chip and wear. You can bet a silicone boot to cover it I feel it should be included. Other than those two items we love the bottle.
Yes. You need another water bottle.
Water bottles. I have three kids and we are in involved in lots of activities - all requiring hydration. Recently, I pulled all of my lids and bottles to try to figure out how best to manage them all. So when this water bottle was given to me, my first thought was "another one?" But I love this bottle. We have taken it on horse trail rides (in Oklahoma) and a snow shoeing trip (in Colorado). I would probably not take it on a backcountry hiking trip due to weight (I like to go very light on these types of trips). But it is now my favorite every day bottle for everything!! I love the option to sip from the straw or pour from the spout.Brilliant. It is easy to fill, easy to drink from, easy to carry, AND it fits in my car cup holder. It is also easy to clean. And it does not leak! This is huge for me in that we are a bit rough on our stuff and water bottles get thrown in duffle bags. I have a white one (Shy Marshmallow) and I plan on getting one for each of my kids in the other colors.
My new favorite!
My favorite water bottle! First, I drive a wrangler, and this water bottle does not fit in my cup holder. Not a big deal, but I originally bought it because I thought it would fit. I love that this seals so well. When closed and locked, this thing does not leak at all. I bring it to the gym, where I have a history of knocking over my water. This hasn't spilled once. I love the straw! I've never had a bottle with a built in straw, so that's a bonus. This bottle comes with a note that it is not made for hot beverages. I only use it for water. I use it for a few hours at a time (about 5 hours at a time). Love it.
Great water bottle!
I've had the 24 oz. version of this bottle for quite a while now, and I lost it somewhere (either left it at a trailhead, left it on the roof of the car and drove off, or something). So when I looked into replacing it, I decided to go with the larger model. What i like the most is the built-in straw. I also put the old one through a lot - dropped it, tossed it into the back of the car, left it overnight in my kayak in my garage in the summertime, etc. and it never leaked. I got the "forresty" color - aside from the blue band and grey rubbery part of the lid, it's almost like having a military surplus canteen!
A great all around bottle
I love this bottle. I was using a Hydroflask bottle, and I was tired of the messy flip top and small opening. The straw/wide opening combo on the Owala is fantastic. No messes when drinking fast, and the straw feature works just as well as the wide mouth. The bottle keeps cold stuff cold for hours as one would expect with these insulated bottles. And its less expensive/obnoxious than the overpriced Yeti stuff. I've only had two issues with this bottle, the cap needs to be firmly closed or it will pop back open, and the textured surface makes it hard to apply stickers to it. Neither are dealbreakers. This is my new go-to bottle for all day use, I love it!
