Great lightweight alternative to standard Nalgene
I actually have both this bottle and the standard, more transparent 48oz Nalgene. Both are great bottles. But at 5.3oz vs about 7oz for the standard one, this bottle is significantly lighter. Admittedly, it is nowhere near as light as a soft, collapsible bottle like the Platypus. But it is a better choice if you are worried about durability - you won’t puncture it if you carelessly throw it into a pack with sharp objects. One thing to keep in mind, though. It IS rather soft compared to a standard Nalgene. If you are descending from a high altitude, An empty bottle that is closed tight can crush and possibly permanently deform. You will want to either fill the bottle completely (or nearly so), or leave the cap somewhat loose to prevent this from happening.

Son broke strap on first day.
All the previous nalgene bottleI purchased were the 32oz variety, so I thought the lid strap might be a little lightweight for a 48oz bottle. It broke the first day due to my son carrying it by the strap. It isnt necessarily Nalgene's fault he was carrying a full bottle by the strap, but it is their strap that broke.

Buying more as gifts

I have had this water bottle so long that I don't even remember when purchased. I use it everyday at work. I don't have to think about how much water I am drinking, a glass in the morning, my water bottle at work and at least one more glass in the evening and I know I've had at least my eight glasses. I have never had a leak with this bottle and it is really old. I like how easy it is to clean. The only drawback is that it is difficult to drink from while driving and I'm going to try the insert. I plan on buying several as gifts as I can find nothing I like better and people ask me about it all the time.

Fantastic Bottle

This is a fantastic product and I take great exception to the reviewer who criticized the lid. I use two of these, one in both exterior pockets of my backpack for extended trips. The lids and overall construction are extremely tough. On extremely cold nights, I heat water and pour it into this bottle and slip the bottle to the base of my sleeping bag. The lid has never failed me and I have enjoyed a toasty sleep. This is a fantastic tough product.

Great at the home office and trails!

I love this bottle! I initially bought it to make sure I was drinking enough water while working from home, and it works great for this purpose. I also discovered it works great for hiking when I want to carry extra water, but don't feel like using a camelback. I can easily fill this one up with water and pour it into a smaller bottle as it empties for easier access. I like that this is more lightweight than a traditional Nalgene. When I drink straight out of this bottle, I use the blue splashguard, which makes it easier to drink. Seems durable too.

Extra Capacity Maximizes Packing Space

I love these white Nalgene bottles as the more flexible plastic freezes well, whereas the standard clear Nalgene bottles are more prone to shattering when freezing water in them. The 48 oz. bottle is great for packing extra water without taking up extra space. Fits just as well as the 32 oz. in the outer mesh side pouch of my pack.

Indestructible !!!!

This has been my go to bottle for all my hike and more, I dropped it from over 80 ft and it did nothing to this bottle.

Always there

I have purchased two of these bottles. My first is now 12 years in service. My go to for my First Need water purifier as it matches the wide thread on the purifier canister and provides enough volume to minimizes trips to the stream. Light weight and tough! I use in conjunction with the platypus collapsible bottle to store enough water at camp to drink cook and clean up. The only issue I’ve experienced is a plastic taste with age. If water is used fairly quickly, (24 hours or less) and kept away from heat and direct sun, a minor issue. I am going to purchase 2 new for 2020.

Killer Jug Dude!

If you are a hydration freak you need this jug. Tough as hell and super capacity. This is my work jug, my gym jug and my life line on hot humid hikes. Its been dropped, kicked and otherwise tormented without some much as a drop being spilled!

Carries a ton of water

Bought it a month ago and has not failed to carry the majority of my water. Doesn't leak no matter how you carry it

Big does not always mean the best

I was exited to buy this only because of the size. I'm happy with the purchase, however their are a few minor problems with it. Iodine or any water purification tablets or liquids will severly color it. Mine went from white to a bagish color on five backpacking excursions. Another minus is that if you attach the lid to a carrabeaner, the part attached to the bottle will snag, leaving the the actual lid screwed on the bottle to be connected, without the circular part on the bottle. However it will still remain intact, but barely. However this is one of the best Nalgene products to get because of its capacity.
