Easy and Great Tasting

Had read about these in BP magazine, had trouble finding them at local grocery stores, finally found them at REI and gave them try. On a recent 3 day backpacking trip we made some pretty great breakfast burritos with Morning Star Soy Sausage, cream cheese, avocado, homemade salsa, and the OvaEasy egg crystals. All three of us (foodies and long-time backpackers) were mightily impressed.with the flavor and texture. We let them sit for a while (10 minutes?) after mixing with water and had no problems with the crystals re hydrating. I went right back and bought more pacages for an upcoming ten day trip into Idaho's back country. Very impressed.

Decent Alternative to Oatmeal

I tried ova easy egg crystals on a recent backpacking trip in the Alpine Wilderness Area. The taste was fine (could have added more salt + peppa) - I mixed with dried spinach and sundried tomatoes. The biggest drawback was how much the eggs stuck to our cook pot. Super hard to clean - for that reason, i'm not sure I would recommend.

Tastes as good as real eggs

We took along the traditional freeze dried eggs on a scout backpacking trip last summer and the eggs were horrible. I was determined to find an alternative and we found this product. Over this past weekend, we tried them out by putting the powder in a zip lock bag. We then boiled a pot of hot water, added the right amount to the eggs and then mixed it in the bag. We then put the sealed bag into the pot of boiling water and made bag omelettes. It tasted like real eggs. Cannot wait to try them next summer while packing again. Could not believe they tasted so good. This product will allow us the ability to have eggs on back country trips.

Not bad at all

This actually wasn’t too bad! I was hesitant, but I wanted a breakfast item that wouldn’t require refrigeration, so I tried it. I mixed in hash browns and spices and it was a great breakfast! Scrambled up like regular eggs!

Delicious but only 8 eggs

The eggs cook up great on a Jetboil HalfGen but after following the directions on back of bag and measuring powder and water to make 6 eggs, there was only enough to make 2 (maybe 3) eggs with the remaining contents in the bag. This happened with two consecutive bags... I would still recommend this product though after planning for the short comings since they cook and taste just like real eggs without having to worry about the mess of eggs possibly braking before you need then or having to worry about egg shells after the fact, plus, they take up less space packing also.

Powdered Eggs are Good Enough

These are good but won’t beat out the original product, an egg. Try boiling your omelette mix in a freezer bag and skip the pan. Also no refrigeration even after opening. Tell that to your salami.

Like the real thing

I had previously used Honey Glen powered eggs before and no matter how much spice I added, the taste was just awful. Saw these on the REI website with good reviews and gave them a shot and was very pleased. With no added spices, tasted just like real eggs. Next time plan to bring some shallots along to add to the flavor. Very easy to prepare by mixing with water in a plastic bag and dump into a pot. I mean, how much oatmeal can you really take? Also had pre-cooked bacon with the eggs which we cooked first so quite the treat and who doesn't like bacon?

Leave the shells at home

Wonderful way to begin a morning on the trail. Eggs with some veggies, and a little freeze-dried bacon jerky. Yum.

The best egg substitute for camping

Motorcycle Camper here: I like eggs for breakfast. This product is easy to use and tastes as close to fried eggs as I could hope. A little pepper is all I need to add, at least to my taste. I've tried other packaged egg breakfasts and found them wanting. They are long lasting, and I've usually finished off any remaining product at home, so there's no waste if you have some left over after your camping season has ended. First big con: Yes, they stick horribly to my aluminum cook set. But I like an egg breakfast so much that I found a very small teflon pan that I pack along...just big enough to cook up two "eggs." Problem solved. Second big con: They're usually not stocked in store. Bad REI. :-) But I'm still giving the product five stars.

Best ever

I tried a few driedbegg products and usually just brought fresh eggs because everything I tried wasn't all that good But this product is AWESOME!!! When you mix it with water you're not quite sure what you're going to get, but when you cook it it turns into a finished product that is pretty darn close to eating fresh eggs. And there's quite a bit in one single pouch, I found that a package was enough to feed my son and I for two breakfasts Granted we added cheese and some sausage but you probably would have this with something else anyway.

Yummy Eggs without the Fridge!

I took this with me for a backpack camping trip in Kauai. They were easy to re-constitute and cooked up just like scrambled eggs would at home. The only difference was I found there was a good amount of water in the pot after the eggs were cooked. I just strained it out and was good to go. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is that there is NO zip top on this pouch. So if you don’t think ahead and bring a separate baggie you have no way to keep the powder from getting everywhere if you don’t cook up 12 eggs at once.
