Makes great breakfast burrito filling for tortillas. Add some hot sauce and cheese and you’re in business!

Don't waist your money!

My friend and I had this breakfast meal from mountain house which I am normally very enamoured with. This meal however, was completely lacking in all areas from taste to texture. We very carefully followed all instructions for making so as to have the correct amount of water to food ratio and let it sit for the prescribed time and yet somehow it came out both soupy and not fully hydrated. So we decided to stir it up and let it sit a bit longer. It did not improve. Even after adding a packet of tapatio the flavor couldn't be rescued nor was the texture. It was still soupy or 'gravy like' but not all the way hydrated. Next time I will definitely go with instant oatmeal and save myself the money.

It’s dehydrated food….it’s not fancy

I don’t understand all the negative reviews on here. There were several saying that the old version was better, so my boyfriend and I tried the old and new versions side by side: Old: eggs rehydrate better, tastes blander New: eggs may have a squishy/unreconstituted center if you don’t add extra 1/2 cup or so of water, good smoky flavor That’s pretty much the differences we noticed. It’s dehydrated food - if you’re really picky and want to make your own, you probably should. Otherwise this is good convenient food that isn’t perfect but it travels well, rehydrates decently, and tastes good on a camping trip when you need something quick and easy. I’m eating one right now for lunch because I’m back from my trip but too tired to make real food.

First M.H. that I have thrown away! Blaah!

I got into backcountry backpacking in about 2003. Mountain House, to me, consistently makes the best dehydrated foods. After hiking for @ 5 hours, being out of shape, and hiking the High Sierras to 10,400', much of this, rocky granite, I tried the Breakfast Skillet for the first time. For me, this has been THE WORST meal I have yet eaten! I was forcing myself to eat this, 1/2 way thru, and after adding Cholula, which helped out, but not enough, I threw this evil concoction into the lake. Maybe the fish will eat this, but I won't! I didn't know Mountain House made any poorly tasting meals. Now they have made one!

Cold morning, hot breakfast!

Love the Breakfast Skillet! Always take a few when I go on a long backpack. Load it on a tortilla or pita bread with squeeze of hot sauce and I'm ready to hit the trail!

Numero Uno

This is the one I continue to go back for. Number one, it's delicious. Number two, it reminds me of being outdoors, or some kind of Sunday morning breaky thing. Number three, I can do it for lunch by putting it in a soft flour tortilla and it becomes a breakfast burrito of sorts. Number four, it kinda freaks people out when you serve it to them. They're like, "How the heck did you whip THIS up?" I smile, then scream, "Let's hit the trail people!!!!"

A good travel meal for those with Celiac

I have Celiac, so safe dining while traveling can be extremely challenging. I pack a few of these on every trip so that I always have an option for a hot meal, and doing so has come in handy on several occasions. The taste is pretty decent (a lot better than eating nothing) so I've been happy to have them around. My biggest gripe is that this meal (and all Mountain House freeze dried packs) are absolutely LOADED with sodium. If you've been hiking all day, I can understand why you'd want that much sodium in a meal. But it would be nice to have a few lower-sodium options for those of us who eat these for medical reasons.

Tasty, especially with hot sauce

The flavor of this dish is pretty good. The potatoes taste like they were browned before the freeze drying process. The sausage is slightly above average as far as breakfast sausage goes. We always add black pepper. Sometimes we add a little salt. A packet or two of Tapatio, Tabasco or Cholua always contributes to the dish. Preparation considerations: We add the salt and pepper before we add water. We cut the biggest chunks of egg, sausage and potato in half or thirds so they have more surface area exposed to water to facilitate re-hydrating. After we add hot water and seal the bag, we fold over the top and wrap insulation around it to keep it hot longer. We stir it half way through soaking. We also let it sit 5-10 minutes longer than the instructions say. Everything is re-hydrated thoroughly with this method.

Good taste but texture is off

I am new to freeze dried food and this is one of the first meals I've had so there is my bias. I followed the instructions to the T and this is how it came out for me. Firstly, the taste is great. I didn't have to add anything extra which is what I was trying to avoid for my upcoming camping trips. Secondly, the texture is off. The eggs were a bit chewy but completely tolerable. The potatoes reminded me of slightly undercooked hash browns, which is actually kind of ideal given the alternative route. I would prefer slightly undercooked over a burnt questionable flavor. The rest of it is fine. Peppers are peppers and sausages are normal, assuming you don't go out of your way for gourmet sausages. It's a win for me.

Egg Drop Soup ++

Since I haven't tried the old egg recipe, I thought this was delicious. Now a caveat, I use a lot more water than is called for. I like to eat/drink these meals. And let me tell you, with extra water, this is the tastiest egg drop soup you have tried. So, from that perspective, thumbs up.
