Best trail breakfast I’ve had!
I’ve been making my own oatmeal mix for years now as my ‘go-to’ backpacking breakfast, mainly because the pre made options leave much to be desired. This one, however, may be the one that gets me to stop my pre-trip oatmeal assembly line! Excellent flavors, creamy texture, and just sweet enough; with a wonderful crunchy texture from the almond slices and pumpkin seeds. Will fill you up without making you feel like you have to sit and digest, and it’ll keep you full for hours. Highly recommend’
Not properly labeled for allergens.
The front of the bags notes pumpkin seeds. The allergen warning only mentions dairy. The ingredients include both almonds and pecans. Now while I should have read the ingredients more carefully, you can get tired of reading after dozens of ingredient lists and start to only look for the highlighted “big 6” warnings. It should have have warning contains dairy and tree nuts on it. Luckily we read the whole list before eating and didn’t have to use an epipen. Can’t speak to the taste. This could be a fantastic backcountry breakfast if you are cool with nuts. Really sad that we have to return this as nut free granola is so hard to find.
Great texture, good taste but pricey
I enjoyed this meal, and it had thoughtful ingredients like pumpkin seeds that made it taste more premium. However, a couple of considerations that would make me pause before purchasing this again include the health nutrition and the price. At $8.95 at the time I write this, it is a little steep for a breakfast that only has one serving and less than 500 calories of energy. Additionally, for those that are also trying to be more health conscious, you have to balance high energy with fat/sodium that sometimes comes with it. This is high in fiber (25% of daily value) and high in protein (15g), but almost half of the calories come from fat. Also, this single serving has more than 1/3 of daily sodium (38% of daily value). Finally, note that this is a hot water breakfast meal (not a cold water breakfast meal). Personally, I would be in favor of a 2-serving, lower sodium/fat version for the cost.
Delicious and packs small!
This meal was delicious on trail, and felt really wholesome and healthy compared to other backpacking breakfasts I tend to eat. Do not fear the powdered milk! Tastes totally normal. I added half a honey packet for a little sweetness but it wasn't necessary - I just have a sweet tooth. I also really liked that the meal is small and extremely flat. It was very easy to pack. I'd absolutely buy this for another backpacking trip.
Great Taste and Filling!
I saw this at REI last week and decided to try it because I was looking for different breakfast ideas for my backpacking trips. I was out on a trip this past weekend and tried this and OMG it was so delicious!! I LOVED it!! This will be my new obsession. I already cannot wait to purchase this for my next trip. Not only was it satisfyingly sweet, it was also filling. I also love that its warm because it was perfect for a COLD early morning right next to the creek down in the canyon. I highly recommend this product!!
One of the Best!
One of the reviews on here is misleading, stating that the allergen warning doesn't include almonds or pecans, but those are both tree nuts and the package clearly says: "Contains: Dairy & Tree Nuts". I love this breakfast! Everyone I know who has tried it loves this breakfast! It rehydrates quick and fills you up for a big day on the trail!
Very delicious!
I ate this before an 8 mile hike and it was very delicious - a perfect mix of sweet and savory. I really enjoy the pumpkin seeds as well. It's easy to prepare (just add 6 oz. of boiling water, if you don't have anything to use to measure, you simply fill it to the line). That being said, the meal is very high in calories and fat. As such, it would make a great meal on a multi-day backpacking hike. It was very filling and great fuel.
Great taste, although a bit sweet.
I have to say as far as your morning trail meal goes, it’s hard to go wrong here. 15g of protein, 64g of carbs, 20g of fat and 490 calories in a small (smaller than most companies packaging) size. Plenty of energy to start your day, letting you focus on the miles ahead. The oats and fruit taste fresh, not slimy like some preserved meals can. The one downside is the milk they use. I think it’s at least partially condensed or sweetened milk, and boy is it sweet. Not cloyingly so, but it’s like syrup on French toast sweet. It does provide a good 25g of sugar to burn until your morning snack, but just something to be aware of. I know a lot of us are trying to tone back on sugar and it’s a wallop in this package. Otherwise, super simple prep (pour in boiling water, stir, wait 5mins, stir, eat), small packaging, good nutrition density, and it’s tasty. What more can you ask for?
Tasty and Filling Breakfast
This was a nice trail breakfast that was filling without sitting too heavy in my stomach before my hike. I used half the water recommended and it was still fairly liquidy, so if you prefer your muesli on the thicker side, I'd use maybe 1/3 the water. It tasted delicious without being too sweet and it was nice to eat something that resembled real food that I would normally eat at home.
Tasty, light weight meal.
Heather's Choice Swiss Style Muesli with Milk is a tasty, light-weight meal that is perfect for backpacking. The meal needs 6 ounces of boiling water to re-hydrate. The muesli is both crunchy and chewy which is quite satisfying. The serving has a high caloric content (490) and 15 grams of protein which gets you going in the morning without weighing you down.
