Great backpack

Bought this last week. 6' female. Brought it on a 5 day backcountry trip and was very happy with it! Had to adjust the straps to the highest setting , so if you are over 6', might want to consider getting the "tall" version. Lots of pockets and compartments to organize gear for easy access. Does not come with a rain shell (although it is gortex I think it is important to have for heavier rain), you will need to buy one separate. Hip straps are interesting. I like the hip rotation feature. But the straps don't easily bend, so need to clip them together when storing inside or outside the tent. But not a deal breaker. Great lower back support.

Great rucking pack & family fun pack

I love using this pack as I have been exploring rucking in my training. I have rucked with 60 lbs for 60 min so far. I love the structure of the pack and adjustability. The back plate is light and feels substantial and sturdy. When I load my pack I feel like it distributes the weight well and I adjust with the straps to redistribute the loads. The shoulder straps on the top help me to get the load higher on my back or to loosen it to get more on my hips. Also the sturdy belt strap is on a mechanism that moves up and down. I found this acted as a shock absorber and didn't just dump the weight into my pelvis and back. The ability redistribute the load during the hike is key to avoid injury. You want different muscles and structures to do work so others can take a break. The design is great and allows me to effectively pack and access my stuff. The draw cord allowed my to fill it right to the top. Also the compartment that flaps over allowed me to access things that I needed more easily. The side zipper is also very useful to get larger items I needs quickly. I've rucked with 60 lbs and it felt comfortable supporting the load. I used clothes as my base and wrapped them around my kettlebells and dumbells in my pack. I also like how the straps around the back help me to compress the load to make it more compact to carry. I also got the tall version. I have a long torso and having a taller back helped me distribute the load more veritcially which made heavies loads feel more comfortable. I didn't feel like the load made me feel like I was going to tip side to side. It felt like it was a part of my body and my core could work well during my ruck. I have even used the pack for grocery shopping, taking supplies to work and on days out with my family. I carried an entire picnic and in my bag - from mats, foldable table, food and of course sports equipment to play with. We had to hike to our picnic site so it made it much easier to get to. I love this pack. This will definitely open up the possibilities for me and my family to enjoy nature.

Comfortable for carrying upwards of 50lbs on hikes

Purchased this backpack to be my workhorse this summer for hiking and working in the mountains. I have to carry 40-50lbs of camera gear on 30km hiking days and I was very pleased with the comfort, even after multiple days. The way the backpack placement is customizable and moves with your body is a spectacular feature. My only criticism would be not including a protective place for a water bladder and not including a rain cover.

Must be min 32 in waist for proper hip belt fit

Always come back to Arc’teryx for overnight packs because of the kangaroo zip front pouch. This is also one of the lightweight packs on the market. Everything you need and nothing you don't. No excessive zippers, pockets, and features like osprey packs. However, the greatness of the backpack is all for not, if it doesn't fit. Hipbelt only comes in one size which is annoying. I am about a size 30 inch waist, and when I have it cinched to the max for heavier loads, the left/right hip belts touch or nearly touch and max out, leaving it looser than desire. You probably need to be a minimum 32 inch waist size for the hip belt to be fully cinched and not have the ends touch. Hope Arcteryx considers making different sized hipbelts in the future. I have an old Altra 85 pack that had interchangeable different sized hip belts. That was the reason I chose that pack in the first place. What a shame.

A good pack but with a design flaw

I’ve had to return this pack as the hip band had a serious failure, coming away from the pack. This was as a result of a slip and me landing on my backside and bottom of the pack, causing the waist band mechanism to fracture and break. Otherwise a good layout and design of the pack but having that happen mid a three day hike was a disaster.

Bora - First impressions

First time using the Bora yesterday- overall very pleased with performance and features. It's a lightweight pack that doesn't rely on excessive padding so make sure you're fit properly. It's very customizable and the ability to adjust straps laterally to accommodate different shoulder sizes is a nice feature. The waistbelt on the large size is generous, and while I could probably go to a medium belt size I appreciated the coverage. The Rotoglide system seemed functional- while there was a slight clicking from time to time during certain movements, it didn't detract from the feeling that the load was being supported effectively. First hike with it was a 10k overnighter in non technical terrain, one minor dip in a creek during a crossing (water-resistance is there), and a load of 31lbs. It was a hot day and airflow was good. While it may not look as plush as other packs on the market, I was very happy with the performance but can't stress the importance of fit enough- you probably won't be sold until you've adjusted it properly and got some weight in it. Worth considering if you're in the market. I can't speak to longevity of the pack yet, but look forward to playing with it further.

Best Field Bag for the Money!!

I got this bag as a warranty replacement for the previous model of the Bora AR 50 (which itself was a warranty replacement for the Arrakis 50! Thank you Arcteryx Warranty!!)). Remarkably, this one was $200 less than previous model, though it has a totally different construction. Before, the bag was made with an external layer that was a thick rip-stop nylon, which made it highly water resistant but a little heavier. The interior seam taping was what eventually started coming apart after 6 years of steady use. I think it was marketed for winter sports in snow, but I use it for botanical field work in mountains of Hawaii (= rain + lots of bushwacking and off-trail rambling). This new Bora is more of a "traditional" nylon construction, not nearly as water resistant, but also lighter and more adjustable. I've been using it for about 4 months now, one to several times a week and despite the material being lighter and thinner there is no obvious signs of wear. Hoping it will hold up as well as the last one. I really like how expandable it is with the dual drawstrings on the top of main compartment, how much slack there is on all the straps on main body of bag too, so I know I could really stuff and expand it wider if I wanted to. But by the same token its not overly big when I'm not carrying that much and everything cinches down nice and tight. I'm very happy with the extra storage options - long external ventral pocket with sealed zipper, hip-belt pockets, external side pockets (I expect these to tear out and rarely use them), and two top pockets on the "brain," as well as a water-resistant under pocket for things that can't get wet. And just like the other packs the hip belt and shoulder straps are nice and thick so it can really carry some weight without hurting your body when you need it too. Overall this is a great product with tons of functionality. I hope it lasts as well as the previous Arcteryx bags I've owned, and that they don't radically alter the design when I'm ready for my next replacement!! And especially for the price, I think this has to be one of the better values for your money, which you can't always say about Arcteryx prices...

Amazing bag with one major flaw.

Amazing bag with one major flaw. Brought the bag in July of 24 and have since done multiple trips and multi-day trails with this bag. The bag is incredibly lightweight, durable and easy to use. Not that it’s a major selling point but it also looks great on the trail. Unfortunately the comfort of the bag was not on par with other bags. The bags hip strap puts pressure on the lower back that you WILL feel after a long days hike. A comfortable fit is a must when it comes to a bag and this just doesn’t tick that box.

Love the pack!

Have been on a few backpacking trips with the pack. After an adjustment I really like the pack. At my first multi day trip I experienced problems with the hipbelt buckle. I had to re-fasten it every two or three hundred metres. Fortunately, Zwerfkei, the Dutch shop where I bought the pack provided a new buckle. Contrarary to the Arc Teryx buckle this buckle is not smooth so it remains fastened even with my dynamic way of walking. Now I really like the pack. It is very comfortable with the rotoglide system. The big front kangaroo pocket comes in very handy. Also I like the zipped side pocket which is accessible while wearing the pack. Missing the water blatter pouch (fixed with a light weight dry bag). And would love the pack to be even more waterproof (like one of my former packs, the Naos 55).
