This pack is simple and sits perfectly on the shoulders and low back. Waterproof with just the right amount of outer pockets. Get pods to put inside, this makes finding stuff easy. Forget all the fancy and go with the work mule feather weight pack.
What do you get when you combine waterproof dynema with a design that leaks? A bathtub full of water! That describes this pack. I wish I knew what is apparently common knowledge before I bought this pack. Turns out the seam where the shoulder straps attach at the top is too complicated for hyperlite to deal with, so they don't bother taping it. I found out the first time I took it in the rain and the bottom of the pack filled up with water. When I contacted hyperlite the response was "we recommend you use a waterproof pack liner!" Duh! I always do, but with this pack you get your waterproof pack liner floating in a bathtub full of water in a hard rain! Maybe they need to market this as an auxiliary water storage? Another complaint I have about the pack is that the two extremely narrow frame stays can really jab into your lumbar area depending on how you stuff things down into the bottom of the pack. This really is not a very good pack.
IYKYK! There is really only one reason to buy this pack as it serves a specific use case. Of course its also one of the best out there. Don't get wrapped up on the lack of load shifters. Just dummy load it in store and walk around, within 20 min I realized the pack loaded at 30lbs didn't need load lifters! --- Suggestion for REI PLEASE keep demo packs in stock. I drove over an 1.5hrs passing 2 other REI's just to put my hands on one that happened to be a customer return from online purchase. If your going to online only please have demos in store.
The weight & quality of stitching are excellent & the pack is comfortable for loads up to 30lbs. Even doable for 40lb+, but not so comfy for heavier loads. Ideal for ultralight-minded hikers. The downside, in the long run, is the quality of the material. My pack became paper brittle & tore while packing gear inside. Seems like a disposable product, and for this reason, I cannot recommend this pack, especially considering the high price. I will probably buy a ULA Circuit pack for my next thru hike. Bit heavier, but hopefully, more durable.
Best backpack I have EVER used! This backpack is Amazing!Me and my husband both use it and we barely notice its on our back. We have used other backpacks like Osprey and there is no comparison. Its expensive but well worth it!
