This pack fit me the best, I have a short torso and curvy hips, but a small waist. This is the only pack that was comfortable on my hips, yet did not dig into my ribs. Needed a volume size up from my old Sirrus 36 that fit well, but the hip belt padding was getting old and less comfortable. This is more comfortable than that pack, no hip bruising at all. I would have liked to get the Kyte 58 but REI did not have it in store. The Kyte 68 at another store had a different, less comfortable hip belt (I don't know if it was a different year). The more comfortable hip belt on the Kyte 48 is NOT adjustable with Velcro extender, it's just adjustable the normal way with the hip belt straps through the buckle. I got the XS/S with approximately 16 inch torso length, 38 inches around measured at hip bones, this pack fit very well. Everything up to usual Osprey standards, though I felt like the brain external zip was slightly harder to access than on my Sirrus, by almost flopping towards my head more (but not touching). I also like the zip pocket on the back of the Sirrus better than the mesh on this bag. BUT fit/comfort is the most important for me, and I would buy this bag again/recommend it to anyone with a similar body shape. It carried the weight (around 25-30 lb) very well.
I initially when to REI to buy a Gregory and left with the Osprey Kyte. This is a wonderful backpack which is super comfortable and lives up to its statement that it is made for shorter, narrower, curved body types which mine is. I took it with me to Costa Rica where we backpacked through Corcovado and it stayed tight to my body and balanced well so that I never fell backwards due to weight while hiking which happened to a couple of my other family members. The side zipper that allows you to access things without opening the top was exceptionally handy as was the bottom zipper pocket. I bought the 48 Litre backpack and it’s large enough to fit my hiking needs while also being small enough to take as a carryon (goodbye checked luggage). I would suggest going to REI to get it fitted to your body however since they know how to adjust it properly. All in all I’m very grateful I had this backpack for my trip this summer and can’t wait for more adventures with it!
I was excited to try this pack out on the Camino in Spain. Last spring I hiked 750 miles with a Gregory pack and survived lots of downpours. NOT THIS TIME!! I decided to bring a bigger pack since I will be hiking over 2 seasons. So, I purchased the Osprey Kyte 48L. Fits perfect and holds all I need with room for more! With the Osprey name I didn’t think I had to worry about this pack not surviving rain but boy was I wrong. With rain fly attached properly the pack gets soaked and pools of water sit in the bottom of the pack!! I now sit in my Hostal with all of my belongings soaked and the pack is drenched like it was never covered at all. How can Osprey sell a pack like this?? When I spoke to other hikers about my bad luck they laughed and said Osprey packs always get drenched. I will be returning this pack when I get back to the states. I would NEVER recommend to anyone. And I will not be buying another Osprey.
My wife is 5’0 on a good day, 4’10 1/2 on most. It was perfect, usually it’s such a hassle to find any appropriately fitting gear for her but this one immediately stood out amongst others in terms of comfort and accurate sizing
Maybe the other reviewer needed an M/L? If straps fell lower maybe shes small on top. Or the bag was too big for her height? Was she sized at REI? Anyway great backpack with lots of pockets. My 20ounce Yeti water tumbler fit perfect.Great all around for Hiking. Im 5”8
I’m built fairly small and this backpack fits my body so well! The design of the bag isn’t clunky and is exceptional for hiking, etc
Great pack but i would upgrade to the higher lever for the extra ventalation and comfort
Wonderful bag with zero pressure points! Fits perfectly!
The XS/S size is too small for a “small” torso length. I’m 5’4”, 150 pounds, and a small torso length in every pack manufacturer. The shoulder straps ended around my boobs (which aren’t large), which made the curve of the strap uncomfortable and pressure of cinching them awkward and painful across my chest and collar bone. The shoulder straps are also sewn very close together, making them tight around my traps and neck. The hip pockets are so far on the side of your hips that it’s hard to open the zippers. It would have been nicer to have them placed farther forward. This size was clearly designed for the extra small in mind, because even with the torso length adjustment, the other components are too small for a “small.” Additionally, the side water pockets are inaccessible while wearing the pack. You cannot take anything in or out without taking the pack off. Osprey’s attempt at side entry for your water bottle utterly fails. Your water bottle is stuck at an angle with 2” barely sticking into the pocket and the other side poking into your back. I have no idea how a girthy water bottle like a Nalgene would fit through the narrow opening.
