I have the older model, which I purchased at REI, but can't recommend this pack enough. I use it for day hikes, backpacking trips, and everyday use in NYC. It's durable, comfortable, and versatile.
First of all this pack is extremely comfortable with heavy loads up to about 35lbs. After that its not uncomfortable, but, its not very stable. There are 7 compression straps and no load lifters. Also putting a crossbar between the two aluminum stays would not at much weight and you would get a more stable pack with heavy loads.
