Soles delaminated
Out of the box I really liked these shoes. They did everything I wanted them to do as a mountain bike/road bike/bikepacking shoe. The stiffness and comfort was exactly what I wanted for long XC mountain bike rides and hike a bike sections of bikepacking. But the soles of the shoes are completely delaminating prematurely. My previous pair of shoes I wore through the rubber to the stitching. These are fresh as can be and the soles are falling off. I’ll unfortunately be returning them.
These were a keeper
I bought these and also the Shimano MT7, and ended up keeping these. The key was the velcro at the bottom which ensured the shoe didn't get too tight across my toes. The size and fit was the same in both shoes. I'm hoping they last as long as my last pair of cycling shoes... about 11 years, ridden with both a road bike and a road tandem. They're just about the same walking as any pair of mountain bike shoes I've had. I have a wide foot (for a woman) across the toe/ball and so buy mens shoes.
Great shoes for a good price
I’ve got a 4E width and tried these, not knowing how it would go. Turns out, they do pretty well. The strap at the ball of my feet allow for more room where I need it, then I can tighten the upper for good force transfer. They are still a bit tight on width, and I feel it an hour into a ride. Definitely recommend for 2E feet, esp since there aren’t many alternatives. Shoe is stiff for good feel on the pedals, but the tread allows for good walking and traction when off the bike.
great shoe. sizes run way small
I was excited to get these shoes and bought them twice trying to get the size right. I am an 11.5 on normal shoes so that’s what I originally bought. Then went to the store to return and try another pair on. I should have gone with my 1st impression. I tried on a 13 and too big then a 12 and seemed right but after a ride… nope. TOO small. Size up 1.0 to get the right fit.
Great MTB shoes!
Great shoes, well made, I ordered a size up from my normal shoe size and the toe box fits well. If I order my actual size the toe box is too small.
Good shoe
Nice clean comfortable. Like the lacing system more than expected.
They would suit a rather specific person
I wear a size US14/EU48 with a 12in heel-to-toe measurement, and I ordered a 48. I have good, but not high arches, and I have never bought a shoe in a wide size. I spend a good amount of time barefoot and walking on the balls of my feet, and as a result my feet are fairly strong. I also spend a lot of time in Boots that require significant break-in. The 48 is absolutely not a 14 1/2, but the 11.77in measurement is close to accurate. I would probably recommend the size 48 to an 11.5in foot. Overall the shoes fit small, narrow from the first metatarsal joint through the toebox, and slightly flat in the arch. Surprisingly they do not feel as secure as I would like in the heel, although I did not experience movement and I am rather skinny. The tread feels narrow, yet stable enough that I did feel like I would roll my ankle. That ^ all said, I've noticed other reviewers claim they couldn't even get their foot in the shoe, and I would like to retort that they don't seem to know how to operate a BOA system. I had zero difficulty getting in or out of this shoe, in fact they glided on and off easier than many shoes I own, even with a toe box that was cramped (to me) to the point of making my toes numb and crumpling my first metatarsal joints inward. The angle between the flat part of the tread and the toes feels *extremely* aggressive, like 25deg, and this is amplified by how hard the tread is. The pivot point is well-aligned with where they expect your first metatarsal joints to be. I would consider this more of an advantage, however the furthest-forward setting to mount the clipless cleat is noticeably behind this pivot. For the average rider I think this would be fine, but I prefer my cleat aggressively forward, almost ahead of the balls of my feet so that they are pushing the pedal, and this is the first shoe I've tried that has not allowed me to even locate the cleat under the balls of my feet. Overall I think these shoes would be a very specific person's dream shoe. I was hoping they'd be mine at this price point. However, they do not run true-to-size, and that basically none of the things I would consider standard adjustments actually adjust (all clipless cleat positions are behind the ball of your foot, the shoe is narrow in the width whether the BOA is tightened or not) makes me wonder why said adjustments are even present.
nice sheo, but runs small
So I have an older pair of this shoe and a 42 fit great, I just bought a new pair, but the 42 don't fit. Going to have to take them back.
Good once they’re broken in.
Decent shoe so far and the boa system is pretty nice feature. Need to back off the tension once they are fully cinched so my feet don’t fall asleep. The release button already is getting though to pop out with ~300 miles on em though. I hope these least 10 plus years like my last pair of Bontragers did.
Maybe ok for you
These seemed like decent shoes. Reasonably well made and good looking. Stiff soles. Seemed a little narrow in the small toe area and I need a wider toe box for comfort, so I returned them with no ride experience.
