On sale and happy with the purchase!
At full price, I expect to have two knobs for the Boa system. Buying on sale I figured it was worth a go. I’ve used clipless pedals for years and started using flat pedals since the end of 2023 with my first shoe the Shimano GR5 in 44s. I did try the 45s which my son currently uses. In Shimano I can fit both 44 and 45. However, the 44s tend to be a little more restrictive in the forefoot. I usually try to buy wide or square toe box type of shoes. If Shimano would make shoes in half sizes a 44.5 would most likely be perfect. The 45s tend to be great length and forefoot wise but a little loose in the heel. I do own the GF800 in the Gore-tex version also and the normal shoe feels similar in the heel, a little loose. However, unlike the Gore-tex version, I feel I can lock these down without being too tight with it’s Boa system. My first impressions, walking, the soles are sticky. On my Crankbros Stamp pedals, they are much stickier than the GR5s. I don’t remember the Gore-tex versions to be this sticky but it uses the cold weather compound, ULTREAD GF. The GripD on these shoes seem to me to be as advertised. There is no sliding my foot to a new position with these shoes. I did go with the cheaper sale shoe which was white. Not my first choice but now that I’ve worn them, I like the look especially with the gummy sole color. Good buy for the current sale price.
