Be forewarned - not waterproof and leaks bad

This is the first time that I've ever given a Shimano a one-star review, but this shoe's a monumental fail from them. Tried a couple of pairs of this and they both leaked like a sieve from the tongue area near the upper toe, in conditions that were barely wet - like water splashing on them when riding through a puddle. Kind of a shame because there's a fair bit to like about them. Comfortable, with room toeboxes, easy to get on and off, cinch snug without pinching and have grippy soles. Not quite as stiff as I'd ideally like from a power transfer perspective, but not so bad they'd cause excessive fatigue on longer days of riding. Also a shame because nobody seems to want to make a waterproof, uninsulated clipless MTB shoe for bridge season conditions anymore. Shimano's the only game in town and they failed miserably with this model. Can't even get their MW7 or MW5 shoes in uninsulated versions like they used to offer.

Not waterproof, not even water resistant

I had high hopes for these, as I have happily worn different Shimano bike shoes for years, and consider their components to be the gold standard. But after an hour's rain earlier this week the left boot leaked so badly I could wring out my sock. Since waterproofness was the whole point, and these were pricey $300 boots, I would call that a fail. I returned these and would not recommend. The one star is because the boots fit well (plenty roomy) and because REI is a pleasure to deal with on returns.

Great For Bike packing.

Some reviewers complained about the water resistance. I simply added some seam sealant or snow seal to the stitched areas and have had no issues. I love these boots for bike-packing and the occasional hike-a-bike. Great traction and added ankle support. I added an additional thin insole also for more cushion when walking. Nice wide toe box too.

Shimano MTB review

I got these boots to bike but also protect my ankles at the same time, also it’s a plus you can handle rough terrain when you need to be out of the bike, not sure if they’re waterproof or not but so far I like them and I would buy them again.

Great winter mountain bike boot.

Love the design of the boots. However they were too big. I tried to exchange-for smaller size and REI had none. I did find a 41 with another company. Great customer service with REI.

shoe laces were better

not as good as their predecessors - this revised boot is a pale version of the former leather version. the shoe laces were a big plus vs. this boa system
